How to fix Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS | troubleshoot MMS not working

If your Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS and you have no idea how to fix it, this post is for you. Below are the things that you can try to know the reason for your issue and consequently apply the necessary solution for it.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #1: Ensure mobile data is ON

If it’s your first time to use MMS on your Galaxy M30, it’s possible that mobile data is not turned on. MMS only works via cellular data. Make sure that you turn on mobile data first before you use MMS.

If you were able to use MMS on this device before but the service has stopped suddenly, turn on mobile data and continue with the troubleshooting below.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #2: Force close messaging app

The next move that you want to do in this case is to force close the messaging app. This can sometimes fix issues due to minor or temporary bugs that may have developed. This is how it’s done:

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the Instagram app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Another way to force close an app is this:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Instagram app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #3: Update messaging app

Keeping apps up-to-date is one of the effective ways to fix bugs. By default, the Samsung Messages app is designed to automatically download updates. However, if you’ve been holding off updates for apps for some time now, make sure that you update the app to see if that will help.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #4: Restart device

Minor problems caused by temporary bugs usually go away after restarting a device. If you haven’t tried it yet be sure to do so.

In restarting, we suggest that you simulate the effects of a “battery pull” rather than do a usual restart. This will ensure that the device is refreshed and its RAM cleared. To do that, simply press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for about 10 seconds. Once the phone has restarted, release the buttons. This is usually effective in clearing bugs that developed when a system is left running for some time. We suggest that you restart your A80 using this method at least once a week to lessen the chances of bugs.

For some Galaxy A80, there may be a slightly different way to arrive at the same method. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Note: Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. Note: Utilize the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Also, allow up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #5: Clear messaging app

Another way to directly deal with the app is by clearing its cache. Delete the cache of your Instagram app with these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the appropriate app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear cache button.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #6: Reset or reinstall messaging app

Should clearing the app’s cache won’t help, your next move would be to return the app to its defaults by clearing its data. Doing so will return the messaging app to its factory settings so you’ll have to sign back in to your account before you can use it again.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the appropriate app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data button.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #7: Check MCN

Your phone is unable to send texts or MMS if its Message Center Number is incorrect. The MCN is set of numbers that is specific to your carrier. Make sure that it’s correct by adding it again. Now, MCN is usually added automatically once you insert the SIM card, or when first setting up your device. The best thing that you can do though is double check the number and see if it’s the correct one. Try calling your carrier first to get the correct Message Center Number from them. Then, do the following steps to change or check the MCN:

  1. Open Messages app.
  2. Tap More settings icon (upper right).
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Tap Text messages.
  6. Tap Message center.
  7. Edit or check the number.
  8. Tap Set.
  9. Restart the device and see if your Galaxy M30 still can’t send MMS.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #8: Reset network settings

If MMS was working previously, it’s possible that there may be some network settings that changed. To ensure that all network settings are okay, the second step is to reset them. Resetting network settings resets all data connections back to the out of the box factory defaults. The following changes will occur by performing a Reset of network settings.

  • Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
  • Background data sync settings will be turned on.
  • Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

To perform a Network reset, follow these steps.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Network Settings.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS button.
  6. The steps above will reset wifi, mobile data, and bluetooth settings. This means that you’ll have to enter wifi passwords, re-pair Bluetooth devices, or re-enter VPN credentials again.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #9: Clear cache partition

In order to load apps quickly, Android stores frequently used items like website links, images, videos, ads, among others in a part in internal storage called cache partition. Sometimes, these items collectively called system cache may get outdated or corrupted causing performance problems or bugs. To ensure that you phone runs efficiently and the cache in top shape, you want to regularly clear the cache partition (about once every few months). When dealing with any app issue, this can also be one of the troubleshooting steps. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #10: Check for bad app

Sometimes, a bad third party app may affect other apps or the Operating System. If you noticed your Galaxy M30 being unable to send MMS after you installed a new app, deleting it may be likely the cause. If you can’t recall the app, try to restart the device to safe mode instead. This will force the phone to only load pre-installed apps. The rest of the apps that are not part of the original OS will be blocked. To boot to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

While your Galaxy M30 is on Safe Mode, all of the apps you downloaded will be suspended; only preinstalled apps will be allowed to run. So, if your messaging app works normally and MMS can be sent without issues, that’s a clear indicator of a bad third party app problem. To identify which of your apps is the source of trouble, you must use elimination method. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Galaxy M30 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #11: Factory reset

You may need to resort to factory reset if none of the above suggestions work. This will ensure that you cover all possible software issues on the phone. If your phone’s MMS was working before, it’s possible that there’s a software misconfiguration that causes it to suddenly stop sending. By wiping the device with factory reset, you are essentially returning all software settings to their previous, known working state. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Galaxy M30 can’t send MMS solution #12: Get help from your carrier

While most cases involving MMS are fixable on a user’s end, some may have causes outside the device. If nothing has changed and your Galaxy M30 still can’t send MMS after a factory reset, there may be an issue with your account or network. Talk to the technical support group of your carrier so they can troubleshoot the problem.
