Causes for Nintendo Switch dock not working issue

There can be a number of possible reasons why your Nintendo Switch dock works intermittently, or stops working at all.

In most cases, the dock that allows TV Mode for your Nintendo Switch console may encounter a connection glitch that briefly interrupts its communication with the TV or the console. This can happen after a power surge, or if there’s an issue with one of the cables connected to it.

At other times, physical damage to the unit itself can be an obvious cause. If the dock is wet, hit by something hard, or accidentally dropped, it may not work normally or immediately cease operation.

How To Fix Nintendo Switch Dock Not Working

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart the Switch. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.
To do that, just unplug the HDMI cable from the Switch Dock and also the power cable. Then, on your Nintendo Switch console, hold and press the Power button for around 10-15 seconds. Wait for 30-40 seconds. During that time power  cycle your television and Nintendo Switch as well.
Afterwards, plug everything back in and turn the devices on.

  1. Try inserting the cables in correct order.

If restarting your Nintendo Switch fails to fix the issue, the next good thing that you must do is to inspect if the cables are in good working order.
Your particular Switch unit might have a software bug that prevents it from being used with the dock unless the cables are connected in a specific order. Here's what to do:
-Unplug every cable from Switch Dock including the HDMI, Power, and the Switch itself.
-Plug in the power cable first into your Switch Dock.
-Second, plug in the HDMI cable (HDMI cable should already be connected to your television and the HDMI input is selected).
-Third , insert the Nintendo Switch into the Dock.

  2. Make sure the power cable is working.

The Switch dock acts as a middleman between the Switch unit and your TV. In order for it to work properly it should have the correct amount of power and this can be supplied by its original power supply. Make sure that you are using the power supply that came with your device and that it is plugged directly to the power outlet and not plugged into an extension cord.

  3. Make sure the HDMI cable is working.

The HDMI cable carries the video and sound information from the Switch to your TV. If this cable is faulty then there’s a chance that this issue will occur. You should make sure that this cable is connected properly on both ends. You should also try using a different HDMI cable and check if this fixes the problem.

  4. Make sure the Dock is working.

After doing the troubleshooting steps listed above and the issue still persists then this could already be caused by an issue with the Dock. If you have access to another Dock then try using this with your TV and Switch console. If the issue does not occur then there’s a chance that you have a defective Dock. You will need to contact the customer service center of Nintendo regarding this matter.Nintendo Switch controller on dock
