How to fix Galaxy A80 slow performance | very slow, unresponsive and keeps freezing
If your Galaxy A80 has slow performance issue or has become unresponsive, there can be a number of factors to check. Learn how to troubleshoot this problem below.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #1: Check for apps running in the background
One of the common causes of slow performance issue in Galaxy A80 device is apps. In this particular situation, we’re talking about possible apps running in the background, hogging resources or doing tasks that are not necessary or malicious. If there’s high number of apps running together in the background, this can significantly slow down the system to cause slow performance. At other times, the device may appear unresponsive or may suffer freezing episodes. By design, Android is supposed to manage resources and RAM to avoid slow downs but this does not happen all the time. From time to time, you still need to close apps in order to clear its memory. If you’ve been experiencing slow performance issue for some time now, closing apps as a troubleshooting step is not a bad idea.
If you don’t want to manually close all apps, you can try to selectively do so by going after big, resource-demanding apps first like games or social media apps. To close an app on the Galaxy A80:
- Tap the Recent Apps key, which is left of the home button on your screen (shown above)
- Scroll up or down to see what’s running and open
- Swipe from the left or right to close apps
- Swipe it off the screen to close it
- This will clear the app
If you want to just simply close all apps:
- Tap the Recent Apps key, which is left of the home button on your screen (shown above)
- Scroll up or down to see what’s running and open
- Select Close All button at the bottom of the screen.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #2: Soft reset
If closing apps won’t help, the next good move that you can do is to restart the device. This is a generic troubleshooting step that can be applied to almost all Android issues. Instead of the usual restart though, it’s better if you can simulate the effects of a soft reset or a “battery pull” procedure. In older devices, this is done by simply removing the battery to restart the phone. Since it’s borderline impossible to do that on the A80, what you can do is to its equivalent. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
- From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #3: Refresh system cache
Refreshing the system cache should be the next step in your troubleshooting ladder. This is especially helpful if your Galaxy A80 started having slow performance issue after installing an update or app. In this case, the most likely reason for the problem might be a bad system cache. This cache is stored in the cache partition, a separate area in your phone’s internal storage specifically designed to hold the cache. Sometimes, updates or app installation may corrupt the cache, which in turn, may result to problems for Android. One such problems may be slow performance. If you noticed that it’s taking a long time to load apps, or if there’s significant sluggishness when doing simple tasks on your device, it’s probably due to a system cache issue. To keep the cache in top shape, we suggest that you try wiping the cache partition. Follow these steps:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #4: Install system update
Keeping the software environment of your Galaxy A80 up-to-date is important. If you continue to have Galaxy A80 slow performance issue s at the moment, make sure that you have the software and apps running their most recent version. Not only do updates bring cosmetic changes but they also fix known bugs. Although not generally known by many Android users, installing updates sometimes also bring needed fixes for known bugs. Make sure that you don’t delay the installation of any system or app updates. By default, your phone should notify you of any available updates but in case you turn this mechanism off, it’s high time that you manually check for them.
To check for Android or system update:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- Wait for the device to check for updates.
- Install the update. If there’s no new update, your phone should tell you so.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #5: Update all apps
Updating Android OS or firmware does not update apps. Make sure that your device runs up-to-date apps all the time. For carrier-branded Galaxy A80 devices, or those that were provided by your carrier, there may not be an option to manually check for updates. All you have to do is to simply confirm if there’s a notification for an update and allow update installation.
To check for app updates:
- Open Play Store app.
- Tap More settings icon (at the upper left).
- Tap My apps & games.
- Tap Update all button.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #6: Check for rogue apps
If your phone appears to slow down after a new app was installed, there’s a chance that that app is to blame. Try uninstalling that app to see if that will fix the problem. If you can’t recall the app, don’t worry. All you have to do is to restart the device to safe mode. In this mode, no third party app should be able to run. So, if your Galaxy A80 runs normally on safe mode and won’t slow down, you can bet a bad third party app is to blame.
To restart to safe mode:
- Press and hold the Power button until the Power off window appears then release.
- Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
- To confirm, tap Safe mode.
- The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete.
- Upon reboot, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the home screen.
Don’t forget: safe mode blocks third party apps but it won’t tell you which of them is the real cause. If you think that there’s a rogue third party app in the system, you must identify it. Here’s what you need to do exactly:
- Boot to safe mode.
- Check for the problem.
- Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
- After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
- If your Galaxy A80 still has slow performance problem, repeat steps 1-4.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #7: Check for overheating
In some cases, the main reason for slow performance issue is overheating. This can occur if there’s an app issue, software glitch, or hardware malfunction. If you noticed that your device has gone slow and become too warm to touch when you use it, it’s likely overheating. By design, the Galaxy A80 is supposed to keep the system slower or shut down the system if internal temperature becomes too high.
In most cases, overheating can also just be an indicator of a deeper problem. If your A80 keeps overheating even when you’re not using it to run big apps like games, there may be a more serious trouble underlying it. You must do a factory reset to check if it can be fixed on your end or not.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #8: Factory reset
Factory reset may be necessary if none of the troubleshooting steps above help. Keep in mind though that factory reset can only address software-related issues. If your case is being caused by a software bug, factory reset might fix it.
Below are the two ways to factory reset your A80:
Method 1: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy A80 via Settings Menu
This is the easiest way to wipe your Galaxy A80. all you have to do is to go under Settings menu and follow the steps below. We recommend this method if you have no trouble going under Settings.
- Create a backup of your personal data and remove your Google account.
- Open Settings app.
- Scroll to and tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Select Factory data reset from the given options.
- Read the information then tap Reset to continue.
- Tap Delete All to confirm action.
Method 2: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy A80 using hardware buttons
If your case is that the phone is not booting up, or it boots but Settings menu is inaccessible, this method can be helpful. First, you need to boot the device to Recovery Mode. Once you successfully access Recovery, that’s the time that you begin proper master reset procedure. It may take some tries for you before you can access Recovery so be patient and simply try again.
- If possible, create a backup of your personal data ahead of time. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
- Also, you want to make sure that you remove your Google account. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Bixby button at the same time.
- While still holding the Volume Up and Bixby keys, press and hold the Power button.
- The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
- Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
- Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
- Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
- Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.
Set the phone up again and observe how it works when there are no apps.
Galaxy A80 slow performance solution #9: Repair
The final step that you can try is to get help from Samsung. You must do this if your Galaxy A80 slow performance issue remains even after wiping the phone with a factory reset and when there are no third party apps installed (the ones you add). Visit your local Samsung store or Service Center in order to set up repair or replacement.
