Facebook has greatly evolved from a simple social media platform into a multi-purpose service. From posting status to playing games, Facebook can provide it to you. You can use your Facebook credentials to log in into games successfully and use their in-app features.
Using the Facebook credentials to play certain games would mean you will need to authenticate the details of your Facebook account through sessions. However, the process might encounter an error due to unforeseen bugs and causes errors like Facebook session expired to appear.
Facebook session expired errors can be caused by caches being cleared on the system, either if you are using a browser on a computer or an app on a smartphone. Clearing of cache could happen intentionally by going into settings, or it could happen automatically if you have enabled automatic cache clearing on the device.
Clearing the cache while Facebook is trying to perform a session like authenticating a game could lead the session to be expired, thus, the error will show up. This happens as the session relies mainly on the cached information to successfully complete the process.

Fix a Session Expired Error on Facebook
Here are some steps that you can try out if your Facebook keeps saving the session is expired:
- Log out the Facebook Account.
Why do you need to log out of your Facebook account? The logic is simple, this procedure will remove the existing log in details and refresh the information. It is great to handle glitches that may have been interacting with the current session and causes the problem.
To log out of your account if you are using a Facebook app, just go to Menu > Log out. The log out option is located at the bottom part of the menu.
To log out on your browser, access the account shortcut (drop-down arrow icon) at the upper-right corner and select Log out.
You also have the option to remove a Facebook account on your phone. Just go to Settings > Accounts. Select Facebook and tap on Remove account.
After logging out, log in your Facebook account and attempt an action to see if the session will still show an expired error.
- Restart the Device.
Restarting the smartphone or computer is necessary if the issue is still ongoing at this point. This procedure is very easy to perform and is already proven to cure a lot of issues encountered on devices nowadays.
Restarting your computer or smartphone allows the system to recover from any minor glitches that may have occurred while the device is being used. It is also a good thing to do to let the device get some rest even for just a little while.
To restart a smartphone, simply turn it off by pressing and holding the power button. Wait for at least 30 seconds before turning it on again.
To restart a computer or laptop, just go to Menu and look for the Power options. You can shut it down to let the device rest before turning it on. You can also select Restart or Reboot to restart the computer automatically.
Once the device has fully restarted, open or run the Facebook and see if it still shows session expired error.
- Clear the App and Browser Cache.

To clear the app cache, just go to the phone’s settings and look for the Apps menu. Then select or look for the option to clear data.
To clear the cache and data on the Chrome browser, click the three-dot icon at the top-right corner of the browser. Select More Tools and click the Clear browsing data option. You can select the date range on when to start the clearing of cache and data by selecting Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files. Then click on the Clear data button to clear cache in Chrome.
Clearing the cache won’t affect the personal information saved on the app. Once it is done, use Facebook and verify if the session expired error still shows up.
- Uninstall and Reinstall the Facebook App.
Removing the app could also help in rectifying the Facebook session expired error that you are experiencing. It generally deletes everything from that app, including malicious information that may have been preventing the session to continue. Reinstalling it replaces the old information with fresher data, and that hopefully resolves the issue.
To uninstall an app on your smartphone, simply tap and hold the Facebook app icon until it starts jiggling or when app info appears. Select Uninstall or the “X” icon to uninstall it.
To reinstall the app, open the App Store or Google Play and search for Facebook.
- Factory Reset the Device.
Your last resort if the Facebook still shows session expired on the smartphone is to factory reset the device. This will delete everything, including stubborn glitches that may have been deteriorating the phone’s performance and glitch-coping functions.
Since this will also clear your personal information, you will need to create a backup prior to initiating the procedure. Once backups are secured, then you can proceed with a factory reset.
Just go to Settings and look for the Reset options. Select Factory reset or Erase All Contents and Settings. Enter the passcode once prompted and let the phone complete the procedure.
Once factory reset has been initiated, set up the device and install the Facebook app to see if the session expired error still manifests.
