What to do if you keep getting duplicate texts on LG V40 ThinQ

We’ve been getting some letters from some LG V40 users having issues with duplicate messages. Here’s one typical example of that:

I have been getting duplicate text messages coming from Chomps app. This is a new phone that I got in November, 2018 and was having the same problem with my old phone which was a LG V20. I know it’s not a carrier related issue because I deleted 3rd party apps and was using stock apps, Message and Message+, and didn’t have any problems. Also used them while in safe mode and no issues found. One time I got same messages 14 times all at once. I’ve tried clearing out cache and data in Chomps. Even used other 3rd party app and got same duplicate text results. Any reason why 3rd party apps would be doing this? I do know that it seems that the stock apps, one mostly, still looks for updates and have to force stopping it. Not sure if that is the reason why I would be getting dups. They are disabled where they are not receiving texts too just the app I am using receives them. Any help would be appreciated!!

Forced restart

Refreshing the system should be the very first thing that you want to do. Basically, you want to simulate the effects of a “battery pull” in order to clear the memory (RAM) as well as to refresh the entire system.   5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap Clear cache. This option may not be available for some apps. If there’s no button to clear the cache on your messaging app, proceed to the next troubleshooting below.
  7. Restart the device
  8. Check for the problem.

Revert messaging app to defaults

Sometimes, it takes a more drastic step to fix a messaging app issue. If nothing works after clearing the messaging app’s cache, make sure to delete the app’s data. Contact your network operator

Should none of the troubleshooting above won’t work, the last thing that you must do is to tell your network operator about it. There may be an account- or network-related issue causing the problem. These are usually beyond your ability to do something about.
