There are a number of texting problems that we’re aware of in Android devices. In today’s post, we’ll show you how to deal with a Galaxy S10 5G that sends duplicate texts. This is a common problem for many Android phones and not just with this particular Samsung device. Even if you don’t have the S10 5G, the solutions we provide here should still be applicable.

What to do if Galaxy S10 5G sends duplicate texts | how to fix texting issues

If your Galaxy S10 5G sends duplicate texts, there’s a number of things that you must do to identify where the problem is coming from.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #1: Restart messaging app

There’s often no official explanation why a particular device may send duplicate texts. If your Galaxy S10 5G sends duplicate texts all of a sudden, there’s a number of things that you must try to figure out where the issue is coming from. The first of such steps is restarting the messaging app. It’s one of the ways to directly deal with the messaging app in this situation. Minor bugs may develop if the system has been running for some time. Bugs of these type can go away after force quitting the app. Learn how to do that below.

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the Instagram app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Another way to force close an app is this:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the messaging app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #2: Clear app cache

The second troubleshooting step is to ensure that you clear the messaging app cache. This can be effective in fixing bugs that won’t go away after doing a soft reset. Follow the steps below to clear messaging app cache:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Instagram app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear cache button.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #3: Restart device

In this case, it’s not a bad idea to try restarting your Galaxy S10 5G. Duplicate texts issue can be caused by a lot of different factors, including by temporary bugs that are associated with a system that has run for a long time. Simply press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on. This simulates the effect of having disconnected the battery from the device. If this works, this may unlock the device.

If doing the regular restart won’t help, then try this:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t release it.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

The second restart procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. On older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way in fixing unresponsive devices. Hopefully, your wifi troubles will get fixed by this procedure. If nothing changed though, proceed to the next suggestions.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #4: Reset network settings

If your Galaxy S10 5G continues to send duplicate texts, the next thing that you can do is to clear its network configuration. Sometimes, texting issues may occur if a device has incorrect network setup. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset network settings.
  5. Tap Reset settings to confirm.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #5: Clear cache partition

If the Galaxy S10 5G had a problem sending duplicate texts after installing a system update, there may be an issue with the system cache. This happens if the system cache gets corrupted or outdated. To ensure that the system cache is in good shape, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.
  9. Check for the problem.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #6: Reset or reinstall messaging app

Another way to deal directly with the messaging app is to clear its data. You must do this if you’re using the pre-installed messaging app, Samsung Messages. This will return the app to its factory state. This is how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Samsung Messages app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data button.

If you’re using a third party app, you should opt to reinstall it instead. Here’s how:

  1. If you plan on keeping your texts, be sure to back them up ahead of time. You can use Smart Switch for that.
  2. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  3. Open Settings app.
  4. Tap Apps.
  5. Ensure All is selected (upper-left).  If necessary, tap the Dropdown icon (upper-left) then select All.
  6. Locate then select the appropriate app. If system apps aren’t visible, tap the Menu icon (upper-right) then select Show system apps.
  7. Tap Uninstall to delete an app.
  8. Tap OK to confirm.

To reinstall the app, simply visit Play Store and get it from there.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #7: Use different app

If your Galaxy S10 5G still sends duplicate texts after reinstalling, your next move is to determine if the cause has something to do with the current app. You can do that by using another app. Be sure to use only reputable apps from the Play Store. We suggest that you start with Google’s own Messages app.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #8: Boot to safe mode

If the issue started after you installed a new app, it’s possible that that can be the cause. Try to delete that new app and see if it helps. If not, go ahead and boot the phone to safe mode. In this mode, no third party apps will run (only pre-installed ones). This means that if your Galaxy S10 5G sends normal texts and no duplicate ones, there must be a third party app behind the trouble.

To run your device to safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the Power off window appears then release.
  2. Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
  3. To confirm, tap Safe mode.
  4. The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete.
  5. Upon reboot, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the home screen.
  6. Check for the problem by texting someone.

If the problem won’t happen on safe mode, continue your troubleshooting by identifying the app. Here’s how:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S10 5G is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #9: Factory reset

Factory reset may sound drastic but it can be an effective method to fix this problem. Factory reset can fix a lot of problems caused by software bugs. If the reason why your Galaxy S10 5G sends duplicate texts is a software bug in the device, factory reset might help. To factory reset your phone:

Method 1: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy S10 via Settings Menu

  1. Create a backup of your personal data and remove your Google account.
  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Select Factory data reset from the given options.
  6. Read the information then tap Reset to continue.
  7. Tap Delete All to confirm action.

Method 2: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy S10 using hardware buttons

  1. If possible, create a backup of your personal data ahead of time. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  2. Also, you want to make sure that you remove your Google account. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  3. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  4. Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Bixby button at the same time.
  5. While still holding the Volume Up and Bixby keys, press and hold the Power button.
  6. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  7. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  8. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  9. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  10. Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #10: Get help from network operator

Should the issue return after wiping the device with a factory reset, your next move is to involve your network operator. Call them and tell them about the issue. If they’re aware of it, there may be a solution that they can give.

S10 5G sends duplicate texts fix #11: Let other end troubleshoot

In some other cases, the cause of the problem is not necessarily from the device that sends the messages but on the receiving end. This is rare and there’s no official explanation from carriers or phone makers that we can find. If you are only having an issue with one particular contact and the rest of the contacts receive your texts normally (no duplicate texts), tell the person to have the issue troubleshot on his or her end.
