First solution: Force restart.

This is an alternative method to restart your phone that is stuck or frozen. Errant apps might have triggered the phone to crash and prevented it from booting up. Performing a force restart will clear these bad apps, rectifies system errors and refresh the internal memory. Here’s how to force restart your Galaxy J7 2018 smartphone:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and Power button simultaneously for about 10 to 20 seconds or until the Samsung logo shows up on the screen.
  2. Release both buttons when the Samsung logo appears.

This process won’t affect your personal information, contacts, settings, and downloaded contents so you won’t lose any data from doing so.

Second solution: Plug into the charger then force restart.

Your phone might have succumbed into rapid battery draining issue thus it just went dead and won’t power on. This is possible when some errant apps caused massive power draining and completely emptying the battery in just a short period of time. This can be helped by performing a force restart while your phone is charging. So here’s what you should do then:

  1. Plug your phone into the charger.
  2. While it’s charging, press and hold both the Volume Down and Power buttons for a few seconds and then release both buttons when the Samsung logo appears.

If that doesn’t work, then allow it to charge up to an hour or two. That should be enough time for your device to power up in case it wouldn’t turn on due to battery or power issues.

Third solution: Repair your Samsung Galaxy J7 2018 on a computer with a Repair Firmware (optional).

This should only be considered the last option if nothing else works and that your phone is no longer covered by warranty. Your phone may no longer be usable due to faulty installation or data corruption. In this case, you can try using a firmware to flash and fix your Samsung Galaxy J7 2018. Should you wish to give it a shot, then be sure to use only the firmware designed for the exact model of your device. Doing so may void your warranty permanently. If you’re willing to take the risks, then you may consider this an option. You can use Smart Switch on your computer to attempt to back up and restore data on your phone before flashing firmware.

Here are the requirements for firmware flashing:

  1. Your device must have at least 70 percent battery.
  2. USB drivers for smartphones and tablets must be installed on your computer.
  3. Download the Samsung Galaxy J7 2018 Repair Firmware Android 8.0 Oreo on your computer.
  4. Download and extract the latest version of Odin Tool for Samsung Devices on your computer.
  5. Download Pit files for Samsung devices on your computer.

Once you’ve got all the given requisites secured, you may proceed with these steps:

  1. Restart your Samsung Galaxy J7 2018 in Download Mode. To do so, turn off your phone, then press and hold the Volume Down button, Power button, and Volume Up button simultaneously, then release all three buttons when the WARNING! prompt shows up.
  2. Then press the Volume Up button to continue.
  3. Connect your phone to your computer using the original or compatible USB cable.
  4. Run the Odin file as an administrator.
  5. Verify and confirm that the USB port number is shown in the ID:COM field and the message Added!! is showing on the Message box.
  6. Then start selecting these files in the Odin tool. Refer to the file extensions to know where to place or arrange the files.
  7. After placing all files in their respective fields, click the Start button to start the installation.

Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions to complete the Update process through Odin. Again, this should only be considered an option if your phone is no longer covered by warranty and that you’ve already run out of other options to try. Otherwise, you can just take your phone to a service center instead.

What to do if your phone turns on again?

If your Galaxy J7 2018 smartphone managed to turn on, then you may have to consider resetting it to factory defaults. This can help prevent the issue from recurring especially if it’s triggered by software bugs and malware from one of your apps or downloaded files. You can do a master reset or factory data reset through settings menu or via Android recovery.

To back up and master reset your Galaxy J7 2018 via settings menu, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Scroll to Cloud and accounts.
  3. Tap Backup and restore. You may opt to enable or disable options to Back up my data and Restore.
  4. Go back to Settings.
  5. Scroll to General Management.
  6. Tap Reset.
  7. Select Factory data reset option.
  8. Tap Reset device.
  9. If prompted, enter your PIN or password then tap Continue.
  10. Then tap Delete All to confirm reset.

To master reset your Galaxy J7 2018 through Android Recovery, follow these steps:

  1. With your device powered off, press and hold the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release the buttons when the Android screen appears and the phone loads in Recovery mode.
  3. Press the Volume Down button to highlight Wipe data/Factory reset option.
  4. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  5. When the factory data reset is finished, the Reboot System Now option is highlighted. Press the Power button to confirm and reboot your device to apply the recent changes and refresh the operating system.

Both these reset methods will erase everything from the internal memory and then restore your phone to its original or default state. That being said, your phone should then be good as new.

Other options

If none of the given solutions worked, then you’re next option to get your phone back up and running again is through service. That being said, take your Galaxy J7 2018 smartphone to the nearest Samsung service center in your place and have it diagnosed by an authorized technician. Your device may have obtained some sort of physical and liquid damage, which therefore requires some hardware fixing. If your phone is still under warranty, then you can avail for warranty either service or unit replacement. For further recommendations, you may contact your carrier or service provider beforehand.
