How to add text to a picture

There are a lot of ways in adding text to a picture but in this post, we’ll only be doing it on an Android device using free services. Of course, since we’re talking about editing a photo using a phone, we should be using applications and there are just a couple of apps I want to recommend.

These apps offer the same or even better features than their paid counterparts. I personally use these apps on my phone and while this post may seem like a recommendation, we are not paid by the developers of the apps I mentioned here or are associated with them.

Add text to a picture using Phonto

Phonto is an application built to add text on photos or images. While there are other apps out there that offer the same thing, this one actually does its job pretty well with easy-to-use interface. If you’re looking for an app to do just that, then don’t look any further. Download Phonto now and you’ll be done adding texts on pictures in no time.

Here’s how to use it…

  1. First off, if you haven’t downloaded it yet, open Play Store.
  2. Search for ‘phonto’.
  3. Tap the first app on the list.
  4. Tap Install.
  5. Once the download and installation is complete, tap Open to run the app.
  6. To add text to your photos saved in your phone, tap the image icon on the upper-right corner, it’s beside three dots that are stacked vertically.
  7. Touch ‘Load new image from device’.
  8. Choose the photo you want to add texts on.
  9. Now tap the pencil icon.
  10. Type the text you want to add. If you wish to change the alignment, tap the Align button until your preferred alignment is chosen.
  11. If you also want to use a different font instead of the default one, tap the Font button and then choose from the list of fonts on your screen.
  12. Tap Done but it doesn’t stop there. You can actually make more modifications to the font.
  13. You may change the color of the font by tapping Style; change size by touching Size; make the text tilt by tapping Tilt or position it somewhere by tapping Move.
  14. When finished, tap the diskette or save button on the upper-right corner.

That’s pretty much it!

Use Add Text on Photo application

Another application that I would personally recommend as far as adding texts to pictures is concerned is Add Text on Photo. Well, the name is pretty straightforward and it also does the job very well although it’s interface isn’t as good as Phonto. Nevertheless, it’s free and it doesn’t put watermark on your finished projects.

  1. First off, if you haven’t downloaded it yet, open Play Store.
  2. Search for ‘add text on photo’.
  3. Tap the first app on the list.
  4. Tap Install.
  5. Once the download and installation is complete, tap Open to run the app.
  6. Upon opening, you’ll immediately be able to browse through your pictures so choose the one you want to add texts to.
  7. With this app, you’ll be able to add stickers, texts and overlay images but for the sake of this tutorial, let’s choose Text.
  8. After tapping on the TEXT icon, key in the text you want added on the photo and tap Done.
  9. You may change the alignment if you want to and after that, touch Done again.
  10. Now, format the text to appear the way you like it. There are a bunch of options to choose from so knock yourself out with this app.
  11. Once finished, tap the arrow pointing to the right and since it’s a free app, expect it to have some ads.
  12. On the next screen, you will have options to share the picture or save it.
  13. Should you with to save it, touch Save.
  14. Now edit the name of the photo with added texts, choose the format and adjust the quality if you want to.
  15. Lastly, tap Save.

And that’s it!
