Galaxy Note8 videos have no sound after uninstalling apps

Hello and welcome to our latest #GalaxyNote8 troubleshooting article. This post tackles four Note8 issues that were reported by some users over the past few days. If you are looking for Note8 solutions, make sure to start looking in this post.

Problem #1: Galaxy Note8 videos have no sound after uninstalling apps

Uninstalled some apps on my phone. Now the audio does not work on some videos. If I select a video from a news article it will not play. But YouTube videos will play. No sound can be heard in headphones but I have audio on a phone call. The updated Facebook app I returned to the original app that came on the phone. I am not sure if this is the reason why I have no audio for certain videos.

Solution: Some apps require other apps or services in order to work properly. If you uninstalled an important system app that’s needed by others, it may cause problems. There are two possible solutions that you can do in this situation — reset app preferences and factory reset.

Reset app preferences

This solution will help you turn on or enable core system apps that may had been disabled by accident after you did some settings, or after uninstalling an app. To reset your app preferences, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap More settings (three-dot) icon at the upper right.
  4. Tap Reset app preferences.

Factory reset

If resetting app preferences won’t help, you should return all software information back to their defaults thru factory reset. Before doing it, be sure to create a backup of your personal data.

To factory reset your Galaxy Note8:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Problem #2: How to text in your Galaxy Note8

I currently have an iphone and obviously can Text Message from it …..in lieu of the fact that Apple no longer makes an iPad Mini, I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note8 which I think might have been an error. As as much as I like the product I can’t seem to find how I can text from it.  Am I in trouble as they are not compatible or is there a way that an app can be downloaded that will allow me to text???? Thanks for your assistance.

Solution: All Galaxy Note8 devices come with default text messaging app called Messages. Try to find this app and use it to create a text message. If you have a carrier-branded Note8, which means that it was provided by your carrier as part of your subscription plan, it’s possible that they may have replaced the default Samsung Messages app with their own. If you can’t find their messaging app, call their technical support team and ask for help.

Problem #3: How to fix Galaxy Note8 app issue

I just got the phone, installed the apps Meetme, Tinder, Bumble, Pandora, etc. Nothing from any unknown source except an App called “alarmy”. Already deleted it but not sure if it was even the issue. Using YouTube in full screen would randomly minimize and turning PIP (picture in picture) off stopped that, but for meetme (I livestream and its badly effecting it) there is no option for PIP. It closes after 5 minutes at most everytime and I’m getting very annoyed.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I get random full screen ads after closing an app or unlocking my phone sometimes too.

Solution: Both concerns may be related. Some developers may offer their apps for free installation but users will have to put up with ads every now and then. It’s a normal method for some apps in order to generate revenues. We suggest that you contact the app developer and ask for first hand information about the two questions you have.

Problem #4: Galaxy Note8 calendar notifications only works on safe mode

I recently followed your instructions you posted from questions asked about the Galaxy S8 having problems with stock calendar notification of events and appointments. I too have the same problem but with my Note8. However, my problem was resolved when I started my phone in safe mode. So, I deleted 10 apps, the newest I installed, and still do not get notifications when not in safe mode. Would you have any idea which app would be causing this?

Solution: No, we have no way of knowing which of your apps is causing this problem. It’s up to you to know. If you are positive that the issue does not occur in safe mode, then you need to use the process of elimination to identify the culprit. There’s no automated way to pinpoint the app causing the problem so you must invest time and effort in this one.

Here’s what you need to do exactly:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Note8 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.
