Galaxy J7 texting issue: keeps showing “view all” option for long text messages that won’t open

Problem #1: Galaxy J7 keeps showing “view all” option for long text messages that won’t open

I have a Samsung J7 and if I receive a text message that is lengthy it will cut it short and at the bottom of the text box it will give me the option to “view all”. When I choose this it brings me to another page where I have to choose the message I want to read. When I try to choose the message it does nothing. It won’t open. So I can not read the remainder of the message. I have tried making the font smaller, I have made sure my preview was turned on. Nothing seems to change it. Please help.

Solution: This might have something to do with your messaging app or the operating system. To fix the problem, follow our suggestions below.

Install text messaging app updates

This should be the first troubleshooting step that you need to do. Whether you’re using Samsung Messages app, your carrier’s messaging app, or any third party app, it’s important that you ensure it is up-to-date. Try to check Google Play Store app and see if any of your apps, especially the messaging app, needs any update. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open Play Store app.
  2. Tap More settings at the upper left (three-line icon).
  3. At the very top where you see the photo for the selected Google account, tap on the profile photo of the account you want to use.
  4. Once you’ve selected the profile you want, select My apps & games and update your apps.

If you’re using Samsung Message app, here’s how to check for an update:

  1. Open Messages app.
  2. Tap More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap About Messages.
  5. If there’s any available update for this app, an UPDATE button should be displayed. Otherwise, the line “The latest version is already installed.” should be shown instead.

Update the OS

Updating apps is just half of what you need to do when it comes to updates on your J7. You also need to install updates for the operating system. If you have a carrier-provided J7, you should receive an over-the-air (OTA) update notification when there’s an available system update. In case you missed the most recent update, you can manually check it under Settings > Software update.

Delete text messaging cache and/or data

In case the problem lies on the messaging app itself, try to delete its cache first and see what happens. If the problem remains after wiping the messaging app’s cache, try deleting its data. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap your app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Cache/Clear Data button.
  8. Restart your S9 and check for the problem.

Reset all settings

Some users were able to successfully fix text messaging issues before by resetting their phone’s settings. Try doing the same and see if it helps. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap General Management > Reset settings.
  3. Tap Reset settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

Use another text messaging app

If the problem persists at this point, the problem may be on the messaging app itself. Try using another or different texting app. There are many such apps in the Play Store. Start by using Google’s own Android Messages app and see if that will fix your problem.

Contact your network operator

In case you want to the bottom of the issue, try speaking to your network operator. There may be an issue on their system causing the problem. If you are using their device (carrier-branded) device, there may be a coding issue that caused this problem. By letting them know, this may prompt them to recheck their firmware or messaging app codes to fix the trouble.

Problem #2: Galaxy J7 phone number is shown as a different one when received by a contact

I have a Samsung J7. When I send a text to others my displayed phone number on their device is incorrect. I am using Vodaphone and recently changed contract type ( still with Vodaphone). They initially gave me a new phone number which I had told them not to as I wanted to retain the old phone number. This was corrected a day later. Following recent updates I guess my phone has reverted to this previously issued number as my contacts do not recognise a text sent to them is from me.

Solution: There’s nothing a third party support team like us can help you with this type of issue. You must work with your network operator to fix it. It can take some time for changes to an account, like a phone number, to take effect. Be sure to get the information from your carrier how long your new (or old) phone number gets reflected. Otherwise, demand for an explanation from them why your number appears mixed up at this time.

Problem #3: What to do if MMS on unlocked Galaxy J7 won’t work

I have a samsung galaxy J7 phone that I bought at the AT&T and had their service for about 4 years…I recently switched to Consumer Cellular and cancelled AT&T service…the problem since the switch is that I can’t send or receive MMS messaging no group messages or photos this a problem since I cancelled with AT&T and it was their phone so to speak? I appreciate all the help you can give me.

Solution: Most probably it is. When you switched to AT&T, you had to network unlock the device in order for you to use it in Consumer Cellular system. For some devices, network unlock won’t change the original data configuration of the device, which usually results to MMS not working. We regularly see this issue happening on Verizon branded devices being used on other networks. In other words, even if that device has a working mobile data, (which is another must-have for MMS), text messages with attachments (MMS) may still not work. Try to talk to your network operator and see if there’s something that they can do to make MMS work.

Problem #4: Galaxy J7 not receiving all text messages

I am having issues with Samsung Galaxy J7 of receiving some text messages. It seems to be just random texts. I will get some texts but not all. This seems to be happening from all different phones including some that have the same phone and service. I have tried the do a factory reset and taking battery out and waiting. I tried a new sims card. I have no idea what to do next except get a new phone or new service.

Solution: Factory reset is the most that you can do as far as device troubleshooting is concerned. If you’ve already done that without fixing the issue at all, we’re afraid you need to contact your carrier for more troubleshooting. They have access to internal information about your account and their system that we don’t so they’re in a better position to help you in this particular case. You have to make sure to tell them how you figured out that you’re not receiving random messages so they can check their system.

When talking to them, try to get in touch with the technical support team as customer service representatives don’t usually have the tools and training to handle technical problems.
