J7 No Text Message Notification

Problem: Whenever i receive a text message i get no notification, no pop up, or no sound. I realized this when i opened up my messages and saw over 6 unread messages from different people. It must be a third party app causing this , because i followed instructions on your website on how to turn on safe mode , and when in safe mode, message notifications worked just fine. I did already uninstall the 4 latest apps i have downloaded, but the problem persists. Any help on how to further pinpoint which app it could be is greatly appreciated!

Solution: If the issue does not occur when the phone is started in Safe Mode then this is most likely caused by a downloaded app. In case you can’t find out what app this is then you will have to consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Alternatively, you should also check the notification settings of your phone and make sure that it is turned on.

  • From the Home screen go to  Apps then Messages
  • Tap the Menu icon
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Notifications and make sure that it is on
  • Tap Notification sound, select an option (e.g., None, Adara, etc.) then tap OK.
  • Tap Vibrate when sound plays to turn on or off

J7 Text Message From Contact Not Found

Problem: I put a contact on the spams list in messages, and maybe put it in the auto reject list in the phone settings, and eventually removed it from those lists, and now when I send a text to that person that the message doesn’t even show up in the actual dialogue I just stays blank and when they send me a message, it pops up at the top of my screen showing me a notification and when I go to it there’s nothing to be found.

Solution: The first thing that you will want to do in this case is to make sure that the number is not blocked anymore in your phone.

  • From the Home screen, tap Messages.
  • Tap the MORE or Menu icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Block messages to select the check box.
  • Tap Block list.
  • Tap the minus sign next to the number you want to remove.
  • When finished, tap the back arrow.

Once the number is no longer present in the block list check if you can now view the text message normally. In case the issue still persists then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

J7 Cannot Change Text Bubble Color

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy J7. I recently allowed my phone to download the most recent update. This update changed my background in my messages so that my speech bubble when someone texts me is white, and the text is white, making the incoming texts very difficult to read. I have checked the settings: there is no option to change the background and speech bubble colors for the messaging app (whichever app came with the phone), where there was a way to change the colors before the update. The only solution I have found is to make the contrast of the font high so that there is a black outline on all my words, however this solution does not work perfectly and it applies to every other part of my phone which is slightly annoying. I like the theme I have and do not want to change it (I have also heard changing the theme does not really work). I would also prefer not to have to download a texting app. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is access the Samsung store then download a free theme that allows the text bubble color to change.

J7 Not Receiving Text Messages On China Unicom Carrier

Problem: Have a galaxy J7 which has always served me well. I recently moved to China and I have had no end of trouble trying to get this J7 to work with a Chinese SIM card. Initially I inserted the China Unicom SIM card and I seemed to connect immediately. But the SIM card did not have any minutes on it and when the trial data was used up the service ended. After chargeing the SIM card with minutes I have had some mixed results. Currently, after finding and adjusting the APN settings for the Unicom network I have a reliable data connection. However, my calling and messaging is not functioning. I can send texts out. I receive texts from Unicom. But I can’t call out and I can’t receive texts from friends. I’ve taken the phone into the Unicom shop and they could not help. They went as far as switching me with another sim from another company and I had the same results. Additionally, I had ATT tell me several times that the phone was unlocked. And I had Samsung tell me that the phone must not be able to work in China. But if that were true, why am I getting data? And why did it work initially?

Solution: It’s very likely that this is an account or network related issue. If you are able to send out a text message and the recipient gets the message then you should also be able to receive their text message. Make sure that you have the correct SIM card as there are broadband data SIM cards available which only allow data sessions and do not allow calls or text messages to be made.
