Galaxy Note 5 screen turned black, phone unresponsive

Problem: Hey guys. I need your help. My Galaxy Note 5 just started to become unresponsive for some reason. I don’t know what the problem is but the screen is black so I can’t do anything about it just yet. Please help me how to fix it as I badly need my phone. I use it for my job so I really can’t afford to have device that doesn’t work. Thanks a lot!

Troubleshooting: Black screen, unresponsive. They can be a sign that your phone is suffering from app crashes, firmware issues or more complex hardware problems. Based on these possibilities, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Force reboot your device

Press and hold the Volume Down and the Power key for 10 seconds. If the problem is indeed by a firmware issue and it has sufficient battery, then it should reboot without a problem. This procedure is very effective in addressing minor firmware issues and hardware glitches. It’s basically just a reboot but it simulates the battery disconnect which equivalent to battery pull procedure many of us know about.

Step 2: Try booting it in safe mode

This will rule out the possibility that the problem is caused by third-party apps. Doing this will boot your phone up with all third-party apps and services disabled. So any problems caused by them will be fixed:

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S6’ appears, immediately release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down button.
  3. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone finishes the restart.
  4. When you see Safe Mode on the lower left corner of the screen, release the button.

Step 3: Attempt to boot it up in Recovery Mode

This procedure will temporarily disable the Android user interface. Meaning the phone will run on its barebones when booted up in recovery mode and you can do some firmware-oriented procedures that may help fix the problem. So, try to start your phone in recovery mode and then wipe the cache partition if successful:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy Note 5.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If this fails, too, then seek assistance from a technician.

Galaxy Note 5 screen turned black due to Gear VR app

Problem: Hello, I was wondering if there is a solution to fixing the black screen with little x on the bottom after the gear vr app pop up. I never downloaded that app but my phone screen often goes black with the little x on the bottom. I already factory reset both ways thru settings and with home button, power button ,volume up key and still the same. I’t won’t even charge.

There are two scenarios here: (a) you didn’t notice that you’ve accidentally installed the app on your phone, (b) you never installed the app. Here’s a catch either which of these two scenarios there’s always this scene wherein your phone’s screen often goes black with the little x on the bottom, even if you have done factory reset through settings still nothing. Then, we will going to tackle and give solutions to each possible scenarios.
Step 1: Force Reboot your Note 5

The moment the phone freezes or the screen goes black, force reboot your device and see if that fixes the problem. Press and hold both the Volume Down and the Power keys together for 10 seconds. If the problem still happens, then a master reset is necessary.

Step 2: Perform Master Reset on your phone

If the first step failed, there’s no other option but to do the master reset. The bad news is you will lose everything that you saved in your phone including your apps, files and data but it’s a necessary step to determine whether it’s just a firmware issue or a hardware defect.

  1. Remove your Google account and disengage the screen locks to make sure you won’t trip the Factory Reset Protection (FRP).
  2. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.

If the problem still exists after the reset, then don’t waste any time. Send your phone to a tech and have it checked. It’s a charging port problem.

Galaxy Note 5 started going blue and screen totally dark

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy (which is several years old) started going blue last night, and today, the screen is totally dark. I have taken out the battery, but I cannot soft reboot it because the screen is black and I cannot see a keyboard to hold down the proper keys. Because this is an older model, I’m wondering if I just should get a new phone? I’m kinda broke right now, because a kid in college and another one without a job, I’m paying her loans, yada, yada. Frankly, I’m not precisely sure what model of Samsung Galaxy I have.

Troubleshooting: Samsung is the largest mobile phone maker in South Korea, and the third largest in the world. The name Samsung has built is success because of the trusted devices that they introduced in the market. It is clear that most people who choose Samsung than any other brands believe that having its device allow them to experience innovation because of the features that has been passed through Samsung’s generations.

Even how old and how popular the product may be in the market, still there’s no way for it to experience technicalities. But how do we troubleshoot Samsung black screen or black screen of death problem? Since you’re done taking out and placing the battery back, then will continue and try other workarounds. You don’t have to worry, below are steps you can take to take care of this problem.

Step 1: Verify it’s not due to liquid damage

The best way to go about this is to remove the SIM card tray and look at the small sticker inside the slot. If the sticker turned red, purple or pink then the cause of the problem is liquid damage. Send it in for repair or checkup.

Step 2: Make sure it’s not due to physical damage

If the cause of the problem is physical damage, then the force that caused the screen to appear that way must have left some dents or scratches. If you can see some, then that confirms it. Have the device checked by a technician immediately. However, if it’s neither liquid nor physical damage, then continue troubleshooting.

Step 3: Try to wipe the cache partition

If the problem occurred after an update, then try to wipe the cache partition to delete the caches and be replaced with new ones. Here’s how…

Step 4: Perform the master reset

Should the problem persists after wiping the cache partition, then you have no other option but to reset your phone. It might be a serious firmware issue and you need to have everything wiped off and build up your phone from scratch again.

  1. Remove your Google account and disengage the screen locks to make sure you won’t trip the Factory Reset Protection (FRP).
  2. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  4. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  5. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  6. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  7. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  8. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

You may also opt to do the factory reset through the Settings menu instead:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Find and tap the Settings icon.
  3. Under the ‘Personal’ section, find and tap Backup and reset.
  4. Tap Factory data reset.
  5. Touch Reset device to proceed with the reset.
  6. Depending on the security lock you used, enter the PIN or password.
  7. Tap Continue.
  8. Touch Delete all to confirm your action.

Step 5: Send the phone in for checkup and repair

If all else fails, request assistance from your provider, Samsung or bring the phone to a local shop and let the tech do some tests on it to determine the problem.
