How to fix Netflix that keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy S8 (easy steps)

If it’s just an app problem, then you can fix it on your own without having to ask to a technician for help but even if it’s an issue with the firmware, there’s still something you can do to make your phone work smoothly again. How to fix Galaxy S8 with Netflix app that keeps crashing

Netflix issues range from simple lags and freezes to more complicated force closes and errors. Whatever issue you have with this app, the solution below can fix it provided that the problem is with the app only. But as I said earlier, even if the problem is with the firmware, there’s still something you can do about it but the most important thing now is to determine what the problem is all about. With all that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this problem…

First Solution: Reboot your Galaxy S8 first

It could be just a minor issue with either the app or the firmware so it’s best that you begin this troubleshooting by rebooting your Galaxy S8 if you haven’t done so already. This very simple procedure can fix almost all minor issues in your phone even app crashes.

There’s more to reboot than just turning your phone off and back on again. It also reloads all core services and functions during the boot sequence. If this problem started without any obvious reason at all, this could be the only thing you need to do.

So, hit that power key and reboot your phone. Once the device has restarted, open Netflix and try to stream to see if it would still force close or shows the error. If the problem occurs, then move on to the next step.

Second Solution: Reset Netflix by clearing its cache and data

It’s now time to go after the app that keeps crashing since the problem hasn’t been fixed by a simple reboot. For app-related issues, clearing the cache and data can often fix them but bear in mind that any files you’ve downloaded with that app will be deleted but you can still retrieve them once you log back in to your account once the problem is fixed.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Netflix.
  5. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Cached data.
  8. Tap CLEAR.

Now open Netflix to know if the problem still occurs and if it does, move on to the next solution.

Third Solution: Uninstall Netflix and reinstall it

There is a possibility that this problem is due to a compatibility issue between the app and the firmware but instead of updating Netflix, it’s better to just uninstall it to remove all files associated with it from your phone. After which, download and reinstall it to your phone to make sure you have the latest version of the app. Here’s how you do those things:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Netflix.
  6. Review the notification then tap OK to confirm.
  7. Reboot your phone to refresh it’s memory and other connections.

Now, to reinstall Whatsapp, follow these steps…

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Type ‘netflix’ in the search box.
  4. Select Netflix then tap Install.
  5. To continue, review the required app permissions then tap Accept.

This is often the end of the problem that concerns a third-party app. However, if by any chance the app still crashes after you’ve re-installed it, then the next solution will take care of it.

Fourth Solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

This, for sure, will fix this issue but then again you will have to go through the hassle of backing up every bit of file and data you don’t want to lose since they will be deleted during the reset. After the backup, disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from your phone. This will make sure you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Then, follow these steps to reset your device:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S8.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
