How to fix Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on | troubleshoot won’t boot up or black screen

Among the most common problems for a lot of phones is No Power or, as termed in this article, won’t turn on. If your Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on for no apparent reason, or if you’re wondering how to fix this problem after knowing the cause, this post is for you.

How to fix Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on | troubleshoot won’t boot up or black screen

If your Huawei P30 Pro seems to be having trouble turning on for no obvious reason, there can be a number of reasons for that. Learn what you need to do to troubleshoot this problem.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #1: Check battery level by charging

Charging your phone should be the first troubleshooting step that you want to do. Despite the fact that your Huawei P30 Pro has a whooping Li-Po 4200 mAh battery, it’s possible that it may have run out of juice to the level that it can no longer recover. Try charging it for some time though and see what happens. Make sure to let the phone charge for at least 30 minutes. This should be enough to give the battery power to allow the device turn back on. And do not attempt to power on the phone while it’s still charging. If this won’t turn the phone back on, proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #2: Use another set of charging accessories

If your Huawei P30 Pro still won’t turn on, the next thing that you want to check is the charging accessories. There may be a break or damage on the cable, or the adapter may be bad or wet. If you are not using the original cable or adapter, try to see if any one of them is the problem. Third party USB cables may sometimes break easily compared to original Huawei ones. The charging cable has many tiny wires inside and if there’s many of such wires broken inside, there may not be enough transfer of power during charging.

If you can’t readily find a set of original Huawei USB cable and adapter for your A10, visit your local Huawei retailer or Service Center and see if your phone charges there.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #3: Check for bad screen or physical damage

If your Huawei device was dropped or hit by something hard before it stops turning back on, there may be internal damage that causes the problem. Or, if there’s obvious screen damage, this may be the reason why your device may appear off. If the the phone still vibrates, makes sound notifications, or shows LED light, then there may be a problem with the screen. This usually happens when a device is dropped and the display is shattered. Basically, what’s happening is that the screen is damaged but the motherboard is still working normally. However, since the screen is the gateway to the system, it needs to be fixed first so you can continue using your device. If the screen won’t come on at all, you’ll need to send the phone in to Samsung so it can be repaired first. If all is well inside, then your phone should work normally after that.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #4: Check the charging port

If your Huawei P30 Pro appears to be not charging, there may be a problem with the charging port. The thing is, determining if the charging port is not working or not can be tricky. When it comes to checking the charging port, the only thing that you can do is to do a visual check. If if there’s any dirt, debris, lint, or foreign object, charging may fail or may not allow transfer of correct power to the battery. The phone may have run out of power and is unable to charge because the port is non-functional. If you think that the charging port is dirty, try cleaning it with a can of compressed air. Do not stick anything inside to avoid damaging the system.

If the port is clear and there’s no visible damage to it at all, then you want to go ahead and proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #5: Check for water damage

The Huawei P30 Pro has IP68 dust/water resistance so it can pretty much handle occasional splashes or rain (we won’t recommend that you dunk it in water though). This doesn’t mean that the USB port can’t get water-clogged though. If there’s water or moisture in the charging or USB port, this may prevent the phone from charging. Normally, an error indicating that the port is wet or has moisture in it can come up but there can be other times that there’s no error at all. If you recently exposed your device to water, or if you’re using it in a humid environment, the USB port may have some tiny deposits of moisture. The moment that the battery reaches a certain low point, it may have failed to power on the system. Now that you want to charge it, it may no longer be able to do so because the charging port is wet. Preventing the system from charging is not a design flaw. Instead, it’s actually a mechanism to not get the system damaged. If you think that the charging port is moist or has liquid on it, try to air dry it first. Leave it in room temperature for a few hours to allow it to dry. Alternatively, you can dry it by leaving it in an area near a source of indirect heat like the back of a TV or computer.

Remember, electronics like phones don’t do well when exposed to too much heat so you don’t want to put it near a stove, oven, or furnace.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #6: Perform soft reboot

The next troubleshooting step that you want to do is to find out if your Huawei P30 still turns on after a restart. Try to do a forced reboot by pressing and holding the Power key for 10 to 15 seconds. If your phone works, it should reboot and you should feel a vibration and see the Huawei logo. In case you do not feel the vibration and the screen is still blank, then simply press and hold the Power Key for more time until you see the device restart itself.

If nothing changes after attempting to reboot the device a few times, you can abandon this troubleshooting and proceed to the next ones below.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #7: Check if you can create a backup

In case the screen is the only problem, there may still be a chance that you can transfer your data to a computer before sending it in. Creating a backup in Android normally needs a good working screen to allow a user to unlock the device and navigate the software. We’re not very optimistic on this one but you should at least give it a try.

Make sure to connect your Huawei P30 to your computer using a known working USB cable. Then, once you’ve done, check the computer to see if it detects your Huawei P30 your phone must be powered on in order to be detected. If a computer detects it, then try to unlock the screen (if possible) and go back to your computer. If its file browser can access the contents of your device, copy everything you want saved.

For data security purposes, an Android device must give permission to a computer before file transfer can occur. This means that you must unlock the screen and confirm a data transfer request from the computer. Obviously, you can’t do any of these if the screen is broken. If the phone has a screen lock, you must unlock it first so a broken screen means you won’t be able to do it. Needless to say, creating a backup is impossible if the screen is not working.  Forget about creating a backup if you’re in this situation.

A lot of Android users hope that there’s a way to mirror their screen to a monitor or computer to navigate the software. Unfortunately, this is not possible on Android if the screen is broken in the first place. The screen assembly is both a screen and a way to access the software so two of its major parts include a monitor and digitizer. The former displays the images while the latter is a sensor that takes finger touches and converts them into signals. Even if the monitor is working, you will still be unable to unlock the screen if the digitizer is broken.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #8: Boot to safe mode

Sometimes, a third party app may cause problems or interfere with the Operating System. Having network troubles due to a bad app is not unheard of in Huawei devices. Restart the phone to safe mode and see if that’s the case. In safe mode, no third party app should be able to run. So, if wifi works normally on safe mode, you can bet a bad third party app is to blame. Here’s how to boot it to safe mode:

  1. Power off the device.
  2. Power it back on.
  3. Once you see the Huawei animation on the screen press and hold Volume Down button.
  4. You can see safe mode at the bottom left corner once the device finishes booting.
  5. Now that the device has started on safe mode, charge it and see if there’s a difference.

Don’t forget: safe mode blocks third party apps but it won’t tell you which of them is the real cause. If you think that there’s a rogue third party app in the system, you must identify it. Here’s what you need to do exactly:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Huawei P30 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Huawei P30 Pro won’t turn on fix #9: Contact Huawei for support

It’s very likely that the problem can be fixed by factory reset but in the event that there’s no change in your device after wiping it, you should seek help from Huawei. Visit your local Huawei Service Center and let a technician check it. If you’re nowhere near a Huawei Service Center, we suggest that you contact their online representative so you can arrange to have your device shipped to them.
