Q: “There’s this issue with my lock screen where when I go to unlock it the screen immediately turns black again before I can unlock my phone and it sometimes will do this multiple times in a row.

A: It’s difficult to know exactly what the problem is so let’s try to troubleshoot it thoroughly. The first thing you need to do is to boot your Galaxy S7 in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
  3. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
  4. You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.

In that mode, try to see if the problem still occurs and if so, then you need to do some general firmware troubleshooting procedures and the first one is to wipe the cache partition:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

If that won’t fix the problem, then you need to perform the master reset.

  1. Backup your data first.
  2. Remove your Google account to prevent tripping the FRP.
  3. Disengage screen locks.
  4. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  5. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.

NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.

  1. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  2. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.

NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.

  1. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  2. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  3. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  4. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  5. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Q: “My outlook calendar via Microsoft Exchange is not syncing promptly on my S7. It worked perfectly fine with my S5 previously and it syncs well with my S Galaxy Note 4. All the settings remain the same for my S7. But with the S7, whenever I key events into the calendar, it doesn’t reflect in my other phone and desktop calendar, & vice versa. However using my desktop calendar/ Note 4 to input, it reflects in both promptly except on the S7. I noticed that it would only update the calendar each time I were to access my outlook email on my S7. Please help as this is screwing up my schedule as it doesn’t auto update. Your help is deeply appreciated!

A: It appears like the problem is with the sync or with the internet. The first thing you should do is make sure sync is enabled especially for the email account you’re having problems with. And then, make sure you have a good internet connection; not necessarily fast but stable. Once you’ve verified these things, try to re-setup your account with your phone.

Q: “Smart stay is not working. I’ve tried turning it off and back on and I have done a soft reboot. I had an S5 and it worked just fine.

A: If you bought your phone just a few days ago and this problem occurred since day 1, then have your phone replaced. If it started just recently, try wiping the cache partition and if that failed, backup your data and perform the factory reset as it appears like it’s a firmware issue.

Q: “Whatever the issue is to off and your answer is to restore to wipe your phone out and start from the beginning it’s very impractical. People have a lot of information on their phones they can’t just start over again there’s gotta be a better answer anybody can suggest as someone gets a new phone takes it in for it to be fixed by technicians were totally restore their phone back to factory presets. If you’re not any more intelligent than that then just put it up as a post and forget trying to bother people with answering their question.
