OnePlus actually made quite a risky decision when they were designing the OnePlus 5. The Huawei Mate 9 was originally supposed to be available only in China, a country where extra-large smartphones are the norm. Fortunately for the rest of the world, Huawei has decided for a global debut, and we are glad they did.

The main selling point of this remarkable dual SIM smartphone is the stunning 6.0” screen with 78.0% screen-to-body ratio, making the bezel nearly invisible. The custom launcher that ships with the smartphone effectively takes an advantage of the massive space, by making most important features available either at a glance or with just a few taps. The only real downside is that the launcher can sometimes get a big laggy, but that’s something that Huawei could easily fix with a future update or two.

Despite being just 7.9 mm thin, the Mate 9 features a large, 4000 mAh battery with fast battery charging. You can expect up to 15 hours of normal use, and it takes just 30 minutes to charge the battery beyond 30%.

Huawei markets this smartphone as a productivity device first and lifestyle gadget second. That might explain the somewhat underwhelming camera performance. The quality isn’t terrible, but the fantastic sharpness and color saturation of Galaxy devices or even the Moto G is absent.

BLU was founded in 2009 with a vision to bring affordable yet capable devices to masses. The luxurious body of this smartphone is made primarily from glass. Unsurprisingly, the surface is a fingerprint magnet, but the upside is a premium look and feel.

Oppo F1

The Oppo F1 is the last affordable dual SIM card Android device on this list. Its main strength is the excellent front-facing 8 MP camera that can shoot 1080p video and take great-looking pictures both indoors and outdoors. Users from the United States should be aware that the Oppo F1 doesn’t support the necessary LTE bands. As such, this smartphone is best for people who live in Europe or Asia.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

The error message “Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped,” which haunts some of Samsung Galaxy S7 owners as of recently seemed to have started after a minor update. This, of course, suggests that some files in both the cache and the data partitions may have been corrupted during the update process or became obsolete and are now incompatible with the new system.

Contacts starts crashing after a firmware update

There have been a lot of owners who complained about this problem. According to them the Contacts app started crashing after they updated their device updated to the latest firmware. So, let’s try to troubleshoot this problem by deleting the system cache first:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished wiping the cache partition. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Deleting the system cache is a very effective procedure for minor firmware issues especially ones that occur after an update. However, if this doesn’t fix the problem, I suggest you do the master reset to bring the phone back to its factory defaults.

  1. Backup your data.
  2. Remove your Google account.
  3. Disengage screen lock.
  4. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  5. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.

NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.

  1. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  2. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.

NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.

  1. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  2. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  3. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.

Contacts crashes when editing, adding or viewing a contact

This is apparently an issue with the app especially if you didn’t update the firmware. Apps crash all the time for no reason at all, so assuming you haven’t done anything that may have triggered this error, then this is what you’re going to do:

  1. Reboot your phone. It might be just a minor glitch in the system or the hardware.
  2. Open Contacts again and try to add a new contact or edit an existing one.
  3. If the error still occurs, try launching the phone dialer and dial a number from your contact list.

The best thing that you can do now is to learn first if the device is still responding, you will need to run a diagnostic procedure to do that. Force Reboot your Device

We recommend to perform this procedure again since we don’t have an idea how you did it but we will give the steps how to do it.   2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.

Galaxy S7 froze shortly after the Nougat update and won’t reboot

Problem: Hi. My phone is a Galaxy S7. I bought it brand new and it worked perfectly ever since. Recently, however, there was an update that I downloaded that seemed to have caused the problem. It seems to have been frozen and won’t respond anymore. My friend told me to reboot it but it still won’t. I don’t have much knowledge when it comes to troubleshooting devices so I’m hoping you guys can help me.

Troubleshooting: It seems like the Nougat update messed up your phone but as to what extent, we really don’t know. So, we need to troubleshoot your device for us to know what the problem really is that way we would know how to fix it. That said, here’s what you should do…

Step 1: Attempt to force restart your device

It’s possible that the system crashed after the firmware got updated; it happens a lot. More often, a simple reboot may not work because the device just won’t respond to matter what. So, here’s what you have to do: press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key for 15 seconds.

If there’s enough battery left to power up the hardware and if it was indeed caused by a system crash, your device should reboot normally after doing the forced reboot procedure.

Step 2: Try charging your phone

There’s a possibility that battery got drained that’s why your device simply just won’t respond nor reboot. So, plug the charger to a wall outlet and then plug the charging cable into your phone. Aside from making sure there’s enough battery, we’re also trying to find out if the phone is still capable of charging because if not, then we can say it’s a hardware problem, in which case, you need a technician.

But assuming the phone charged when you plugged it in, allow it to charge for 5 minutes and then attempt to turn it on normally. If it won’t respond, then do the forced reboot procedure but this time while the device is plugged in.

Step 3: Attempt to boot it up in safe mode

There are always apps that may become incompatible with new firmware unless the developers would roll out updates for them. So, it’s possible that one or some of the third-party apps in your phone is  causing this problem. Therefore, booting up in safe mode would be very helpful because if successful, all you need to do is find the app that’s causing the problem and uninstall it. Follow the steps on how to boot in safe mode in the first problem.

Step 4: Attempt to boot your phone in recovery mode

We’re just trying to find out, at this point, if the phone is still capable of powering up all its hardware components because if so, then you can rest assured it’s not a hardware related problem. Also, if the phone can actually boot up in recovery mode, try wiping the cache partition and if that won’t work, do the master reset. If all of these methods failed, then seek assistance from a technician.

Samsung Galaxy S7 won’t turn on after an update

You can start by performing a force reboot to your device, just press and hold the Power key and Volume down for about 7-10 seconds and let it reboot. It will do a simulated battery pull since this device has built-in battery. If it won’t do anything, then boot your device to Safe mode or Recovery mode. You can refer for the steps above, the purpose was explained as well.

If ever you were able to boot up in Recovery mode, we will recommend performing the master reset right away. It could be that there are several files was corrupted or damage during the update, by doing a master reset, it will restore your device back to defaults and you can install the new update again as well as install those important apps that you are using.

You can try and plug in your device to a PC and see if it recognizes your device. If so, then start making backups of important files, then proceed performing the reset. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.

How To Setup Secure Folder On Galaxy S7 To Hide Photos

S7 Moisture Detected Error When Charging

Problem: My phone keeps saying moisture detected even though it never been near water. i am thinking of ordering a wireless charger ports would it still say the same thing.

Solution: Although this phone has water and dust resistance it is only at a certain degree. For example, you are not allowed to submerge the phone for more than 30 minutes in water deeper than 1.5 meters. Regarding the moisture detected error this usually pops up when moisture has been detected in the charging port. As a safety measure against short circuits the phone software will not allow the phone to be charged.

If you didn’t get the phone wet and this error message occur then it could just be a caused by a software glitch. Try restarting your phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then try using a different charger and charging cord as this might be what’s causing the problem

In case the charging port has moisture in it then do the following steps listed below.

  • Make sure that the port is dry by first wiping the areas surrounding the charging port with a cotton cloth.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner to suck the moisture inside the port. Don’t blow air into this port as it will just push the moisture further into the device
  • Place the phone in a bag of rice for at least 24 hours. The rice will absorb any moisture left in the device.

If you are still getting the same error message even after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S7 Use Original Charger For Fast Charging Error

Problem: Hello, I purchased my Galaxy S7 in July. It was working fine, until 2-3 weeks ago a problem with charging emerged. When I plug the charger in, it says on my phone “Device charging slowly. Your battery is draining faster than it is charging.” or, “Charging, use original charger for fast charging.” despite the fact that I haven’t changed my charger, it’s the original fast charger. However, if I unplug and replug it several times, eventually it will fast charge (sometimes after 2 attempts, sometimes 20)

Solution: This issue is usually caused by a faulty charging cord. Since this cord is constantly bent and coiled this causes a stress in its wires which usually causes some connections to come loose. Try getting a new cord and check if the problem still occurs. If it does then do the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed.
  • Try using a different wall charger when charging your phone. Make sure to check that the output of the charger is at least 2.0 A.
  • Sometimes this issue could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. You should consider doing a factory reset if this is the case. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S7 Wireless Charger Drains Battery

Problem: I have a Galaxy S7 with a wireless fast charger. I think the fast charger is causing my phones battery to completely drain to 0% if i leave it on the charger overnight. This doesn’t happen every night. Is there a way to test the wireless charger? I really don’t think it is the phone as this phone is only 5 days old because the first one completely locked up (Which may be because of the wireless charger) and was replaced last week.

Solution: The most likely reason why your battery is completely drained sometimes when charging overnight is that the charging process might be interrupted when this happens. If your phone moves or if the optimal distance between the phone and the charging pad is not met then your phone might not charge at all. When you leave the phone charging wirelessy make sure that it is in a secure position. Try to observe if the charging  light indicator of the charging pad changes as this will indicate that the charging has stopped.

You should also check the wall charger and charging cord you use with the wireless charging pad. Try using a different charging cord and wall charger.

There’s also the possibility that the charging pad is causing the problem. Try using a different charging pad to verify if this is the case.

S7 Needs To Be Switched Off To Charge

Problem: Hello, I have a Samsung Galaxy S7, and when I charge it, it seems to charge backwards. My battery’s draining quick and have to switch it off to charge it.

Solution: For this particular issue you will need to clean the charging port of your phone first using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed. Once this is done try charging the phone with a different charging cord and wall charger that is known to work.

If the issue remains then the next step is to check if the phone software is somehow causing this problem.

First, start your phone in Safe Mode. Does the issue occur in this mode? If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then proceed with doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will need to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S7 Does Not Start

Problem: Hi have s7 since last July. After a few days it was doing the black screen so I reset using one or both of the 2 different ways and it would for a while. There before Christmas it seemed to have totally died. I try to charge it every so often to no avail. It has been lying in a drawer for the last few months just wondering if there is anything that can be done before I chuck it. Which I would prefer not to do!

Solution: Try using a different charger and charging cord that is known to work to charge your phone. If the phone still does not respond then do a simulated battery pull. You do this by simultaneously pressing and holding both the power and volume down button for at least 10 seconds. Samsung Galaxy S7 Facebook app won’t open

Problem: Download the new OS for my Samsung S7. And i cannot use the facebook app. Every time I try to open it, it just closes. Try to launch you Facebook app and see if the issue still occurs. This time your app is already fix and it will run smoothly. In case the issue still occurs, try to perform factory reset to your device if it will resolve the issue. I have Samsung S7 and its display turned off automatically while I was on call and battery of the phone was also running low at that time, then, I tried restarting phone turns on and seems like working normal like receiving the calls etc. But display doesn’t turn on not sure what happened all of a sudden there is no drop or any hit to the phone to think it as a physical damage. Please help me figure out what’s the issue and how to handle it.

Solution: It seems like your phone is experiencing the so-called the black screen of death issue. Although there are other possibilities to consider, the most common one is when the system crashes. The software and other services will stop working and cause the device to become unresponsive.

Here are the things you can do about this problem…

Charge your device to be sure that the battery is not fully drained

You said the battery was running low before the issue started, that could be the reason why your phone refused to turn on as there is not enough power left in the battery to power up the components. In this instance, the best thing that you should do is to connect it to the charger and let it charge for at least 15 minutes. After you do so, turn on your phone and wait if it will boot up successfully. If the phone booted up after charging, then we can say the problem is fixed now.

However, if it didn’t respond to the charger and still refused to turn back on, then you must do the next procedure.

Perform forced reboot method on your phone

This time, while the device is connected to its charger, try to do a forced reboot procedure. This will simulate the battery disconnect which will refresh your phone’s memory. It’s a very effective method to deal with system crashes.

To perform the method, just press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys simultaneously for 10 seconds and wait until it boots up. However, if your phone still unresponsive jump over to the next method.

Try to run your phone in Safe mode

Since the device still unable to turn on after performing previous methods then it is possible that there might be a rogue app that triggered it. In this case, we recommend you to boot your phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps in the system. If your phone turned on while in this mode, it is clear that there’s an app that you should uninstall to get rid the issue. Follow these steps to run your phone in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. If Samsung Galaxy logo appears, release the Power key and simply hold the Volume Down key.

If the phone failed to boot in safe mode or if it still won’t boot up successfully after you uninstall some apps, try doing the next method.

Wipe the Cache Partition via Recovery Mode

System caches that are created by the firmware and some apps get corrupted from time to time and when that happens, performance-related issues may occur like this. Well, at least it’s a possibility so we have to rule it out before we move on to the ultimate fix.

Depending on how serious this problem is, you may still be able to bring your phone to boot in recovery mode, at least it’s worth trying. If successful, try to wipe the cache partition to delete all system caches. They will be replaced with new ones when the phone successfully boots up so it’s a safe procedure to do:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.

Solution to unresponsive Galaxy S7 buttons and black screen

We have already addressed this kind of problem several times in the past but since we still have a lot of our readers complaining about similar issues, then we need to publish similar posts. But the thing is, some problems may manifest same signs and symptoms but they might have been caused by different factors that’s why it’s still necessary to address them from time to time. With that said, before we actually jump into our solution, here’s the problem sent by one of our readers where our solution in this post will be based on…

Problem: My S7 updated this morning. Ever since, my background is black I have lost the top of my screen with battery life, etc. I have no ability to change the volume or use my home or menu keys, It is no longer locked with my fingerprint (even though security screen says it is), all of my apps are updated and seem to be working.

Solution: First, we will try to address the problem based on how our reader described it. Basically, the phone is turned on and she can actually use her apps. The problem is that the hardware and touch buttons don’t work and the background or the wallpaper turned to black with missing notification or status bar. The update however, was successful so we can assume her phone is now running the latest version of Android for Galaxy S7 units.

With all that being said, could it be a case of a bad update? Maybe. But it could also be just a result of some corrupt system caches. This is the first thing that we have to assume here after all the phone was working fine prior to the update because if not, the update shouldn’t have pushed through. And with this in mind, here’s the best thing to do about it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After wiping the cache partition and the phone already booted up, try to see if everything is back to normal. If there’s still some issues, then a factory reset will take care of them. I am certain of this because if it’s a serious firmware issue like when there are some files missing, then your phone should not boot up successfully and you will have to bring the phone to the service center so that the technician can flash the firmware manually. So, try your best to make a backup of your important files and data and follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Cloud and accounts.
  5. Tap Backup and reset.
  6. If desired, tap Back up my data to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  7. If desired, tap Restore to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  8. Tap the back key twice to return to the Settings menu, then tap General Management.
  9. Tap Reset.
  10. Tap Factory data reset.
  11. Tap Reset device.
  12. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your PIN or password.
  13. Tap Continue.

The most common signs of BSoD are black screen, unresponsive buttons, LED notification light flashes and the phone may seem turned on as it sounds off when messages and calls are received. This problem is a clear sign that the system crashed shortly after the firmware update and to bring your phone back to life, you have to do this:

  • Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key simultaneously for 10 seconds.

Provided that there’s enough battery and the hardware is not damaged in any way, your phone will boot up normally after doing such very simple procedure. If not, then try this…

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t let go of it.
  2. Now, press and hold the Power key while holding down the Vol Down button.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds.

Problems that occur after a firmware update are usually due to some issues in the system but in this troubleshooting guide, I will walk you through on how to check your phone for possible physical and/or liquid damage.

Checking for possible physical and / or liquid damage

For possible physical damage to your S7, all you need to look for are scratches, dents and cracks because an impact that could render your phone useless will surely leave a mark. If the phone is still flawless on the outside, then all components inside should still be in their proper places unless of course you can hear rattling when you shake the phone.

As to liquid damage, you have to check the USB / charger port because it often harbors liquid or water. You may clean the area using a cotton swab or you can insert a small piece of tissue paper to absorb the moist if any.

You also have to check the Liquid Damage Indicator (LDI) which can be found in the SIM slot. Of course, you have to remove the SIM card try and look into the slot. If the LDI is still white, then there’s no liquid damage but if it turned red or purple, then it’s positive that water found its way into your phone.

If there’s a sign of either physical or liquid damage, the best thing to do is bring the phone to the service center so the technician can take care of the problem for you. But if your phone doesn’t show any signs of physical and/or liquid damage, then feel free to continue troubleshooting it.

Charge your Galaxy S7 and see how it responds

We simply want to know how your S7 responds when it’s connected to its charger that’s why we have to make you do this. So, plug the charger to a working wall outlet and connect your phone to it using the original USB cable.

  • If the phone shows the usual charging symbol on the screen, it means that it’s responding well to the charger. Allow it to charge for 10 minutes and try to turn it on. If it doesn’t respond to that, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power keys together for 10 seconds while it’s still connected to the charger.
  • If the S7 doesn’t respond to its charger, leave it connected to its charger for ten minutes and then do the Forced Restart procedure to see if it would turn on.
  • However, if the phone overheats while it’s connected to its charger, immediately disconnect it and bring it to the service center as it’s clear there’s something wrong with the hardware. It’s risky to troubleshoot a phone when it overheats while charging.

If the phone continues to be unresponsive though, move on to the next step.

S7 Battery Gets Drained While Charging

Problem: My battery on my Samsung S7 drains while it’s charging but still gets overheated. It only charges when it is switched off and even then it does so very slowly (about 3% every half hour). I’ve tried the power button and Volume button methods to fix it but the Samsung S7 logo doesn’t show up on the screen. All background apps have been put to sleep but it doesn’t seem to have done anything. I’ m wondering what other method I should do to solve this problem or if I should see a specialist, I’ve had this phone for a month and the problems started this week.

Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to eliminate the charger as a possible factor that could be causing this problem. In order to do this you need to perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this pot gets removed.
  • Try charging your phone first using a different charging cord then check if the problem occurs.
  • Try charging your phone using a different wall charger then check if the problem occurs.
  • Check if your phone can charge from a computer USB port. If it charges this way then the problem could be caused by a damaged pin in the charging port. You will need to have this checked at a service center.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then the next step is to check if a software glitch is the culprit. To do this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.

S7 Ads Keep Appearing On Screen

Problem: I have a Galaxy s7. It’s only connected to wifi I haven’t activated the phone yet. Recently, literally every 30-40 seconds ads pop up in the middle of taking a picture, scrolling on Facebook. Or even when I’m not doing anything on the phone… I’ve looked through some of your troubleshooting and when I go to recent apps when the add pops up I can’t find what app it is that is making these malicious ads come up. I’ve tried going to the application manager to see what app it could be, but there is nothing on my phone that matches the description of the logo on recent apps.. I’m not sure what else I can do .. PLEASE HELP!!

Solution: It’s very likely that you might have installed a certain app in your phone that is causing these ads to appear. What you will want to do right now is to check if these ads still appear when your phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t appear then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the ads still pop up in Safe Mode then your other option is to perform a factory reset. Take note that this reset will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.

S7 Moisture Is Detected Error

Problem: I had my phone in seawater and the phone works fine but the charger port won’t work as it says ‘moisture is detected’. I’ve had it in dry pasta for about a day now and it still doesn’t work. Is there no chance of it drying out now or will I need to get it repaired? Thanks NB I am not sure what Android version I’m using so I put ‘other’

Related Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy s7 and it says moisture has been detected charger/USB. But the phone charger but if I’m trying to transfer a movie to my TV it has no signal.

Solution: When your phone gets the moisture is detected error it will not be allowed to charge. This is a safety measure of the device whenever it detects any presence of liquid in the charging port which could damage the phone if a charger is connected. What you will want to do first in this case is to make sure that this port is dry. Use a vacuum to take out any moisture in this port. You can also use a hair dryer as what other people are doing to eliminate the moisture.

In case the issue still persists then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge your phone.
  • Check if a software glitch is causing this problem by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. Once the reset is complete check if the issue still occurs.

S7 Apps Not Working On Mobile Data Connection

Problem: I just bought a straight talk galaxy s7 about 3 weeks ago and i had been on wifi for most of the time but i just recently noticed that if i’m using my mobile data only then the only apps that work are youtube and snapchat, my hulu and facebook apps wont load an say there’s no internet connection, ive called straight talk and they said that everything is good on there end and i also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps and restarting the phone, i also took out the sim card and put it back in, i’ve tried just about everything i could find on the internet and still couldn’t fix it, any suggestions.

Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to check the data usage setting of the apps that are affected. You can do this by going to Settings – Connections – Data Usage. From here try turning off data saver and under Bill cycle make sure to turn off the limit mobile data usage switch.

If the issue still remains then check if you have installed a security app in your phone and try uninstalling it if your phone has one.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Problem: Hi there I have a samsung galaxy s7 and have returned from holiday only to find I can’t access my sd card. The card does not display in gallery or on the memory test in maintenance. S7 Cannot Connect To Email Server

Problem: I have a Galaxy S7 and have been unable to access my email. When I’ve tried to troubleshoot it says that it cannot connect to the server. My email is a Verizon address but it is actually serviced through aol.  Is the problem with my phone or with AOL? I have deleted the email and tried to reinstall it and it has not worked and I’ve also tried looking into updates for the phone (which have not been needed because it is up to date). Any advice?  Thanks

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to try accessing the email account from a computer browser. If you are unable to access the account then you need to contact Verizon regarding this matter. In case you can access the account then it’s time to troubleshoot the phone by following the steps listed below.

  • Make sure that the phone is connected to the Internet and is getting a strong and stable signal. You can check this by accessing YouTube and opening a random video.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try clearing the cache and data of the email app. Once this is done you will need to setup your email again.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone in recovery mode.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider performing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S7 Incorrect Username Password Error

Problem: Good afternoon, I have just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S6 for an S7. All has been fine apart from my email. I have Gmail on both phones and that works fine. However I have transferred an email account, that works fine on my S6 (and also my laptop) but not on the S7. I receive a message. ‘The username or password is incorrect or POP3/IMAP isn’t turned on for this account.’ The username and password are the same as for both the S6 and my laptop as are all the incoming and outgoing server settings. So everything is equal but the S7 won’t connect to the server. I have looked through a lot of threads and this is a common problem from what I can see but no one appears to have a definitive answer

Solution: If you have entered the correct username and password and made sure that the POP3/IMAP settings are correct then I recommend that you try checking if you are able to access this email from a browser. If you can’t then there’s something wrong with the account itself in which case you will need to contact the customer service of the email account.

If however you are able to access the email from the browser then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Make sure that you are typing in the correct username and password.
  • Verify that the POP3/IMAP settings are correct.
  • Clear the cache and data of the email app from the application manager then setup the email again.

S7 Keyboard Force Closes

Problem: Hello the problem I am having with my S7, is rather bizarre. When I open up my text app and attempt to type the virtual keyboard will show up as intended but will almost immediately cancel out and then reappeared again this forces me to only type 1 letter at a time. Another issue is when I open app folders it will almost immediately close the folder. and most in app menus will also force close, (like spotify when I want to add a song I love to my playlist i’ll see the options for a second and it cancels the action). I’ve searched google, youtube, tomshardware etc, even this site. I’ve found nothing about this strange issue. the only bypass is the OK Google app but that ends sending the text message twice. Please help me, I do not have the ability to replace this phone, it’s the best phone I’ve ever had. but this glitch is intolerable, i do wonder if it’s my back button glitching but i have not found a way to test that out.

Solution: Since the phone is having several issues right now then I suggest that you perform the steps listed below to fix this problem.

Samsung Galaxy S7 unable to move files to the microSD card, other memory issues

The #Samsung Galaxy S7 (#GalaxyS7) and its curved variant the S7 Edge supports expandable storage and while all users think it’s very useful, some are not happy due to some problems that come with it. Among the most common are SD card not detected, files can’t be moved, files disappeared without apparent reason, frequent SD card notification, etc.

The first one is about the music files that reportedly can’t be moved to the SD card. While it’s very tempting to immediately jump to conclusion that it’s an issue with the SD card, we need to rule out other possibilities so that you won’t wasted money buying a new card that may still have the same problem.

Cannot move music files to the SD card on Galaxy S7

Problem: Hi. My internal memory is full so I wish to transfer my music files to my sd card to clear up some space (I can access my current sd files with no issue) but every time I try to transfer from phone to sd I get a generic ‘unable to move files’ type message.

Answer: I’m wondering if you were just trying to move music files because there are files that can’t be moved. But before going a little further, have you tried “copying” those files to your SD card? I understand you simply want to move those files but to make things a bit simpler, try copying them to your SD card and delete the original files from your phone. This, of course, is a workaround. Now, let’s try to see if we can fix the issue:

Step 1: Verify the SD card is still in good condition

Perhaps the reason why the phone couldn’t move files over to the SD card is because it couldn’t read from and write to it. While memory cards nowadays are typically robust, you cannot just rule out the possibility of getting damaged for some reason. So, this step will verify if the card is still functioning well because if not, then it’s time to buy a new one.

One way to verify if the card is fine is to set the camera to save pictures and videos to it automatically and then try to snap a few photos. If the phone doesn’t show up an error, then the SD card is good.

Step 2: Reboot the phone and try to move the files again

After you’ve verified the SD card is working well and you still can’t move your files over, then try to reboot the device. There are times that glitches occur and reboot is the best way to fix them. It’s a very simple and safe procedure so don’t proceed with your troubleshooting without doing it first.

Step 3: Check SD card available space

If there isn’t enough space left in your SD card, there’s no way you can save additional files. Therefore, make sure the files you’re trying to move can fit into it. I have a feeling you were trying to move a bunch of files at once. I suggest try to move one file first and if it succeeds, try moving 5 and so on and so forth. If at one point the process is interrupted again, it might really an issue with the space.

Step 4: Connect the phone to a computer and try drag-and-drop procedure

If none of the procedures above worked, then try to connect your phone to a computer and try to cut and paste the files you want to move. This step will verify if the computer can still read the SD card through your phone because if not, it might have been corrupted that’s why the phone cannot write to it.

Step 5: Let the computer read the SD card directly

At this point, everything points to the SD card being the problem. So, unmount it from your phone and then let your computer read from it directly. If it prompts you to reformat it the moment it recognizes the card, then it’s either damaged or just corrupted. However, if the computer can actually read it, then use that opportunity to backup your data and files and then reformat your SD card using FAT32 file system. After that, mount the card back to your phone and try to move files to it. If the problem persists, then the next step will give you an option what needs to be done next.

Step 6: Mount a different SD card to your phone

Try using a different SD card and see if the phone can files to it without having to encounter that warning. If so, then it’s obviously the SD card that’s the problem; it’s time to buy a new one and replace the defective one. However, if the other SD card works just the same as the first one, then it might be a firmware issue and there’s no other way to fix it than master reset:

  1. urn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key. NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds. NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

On the other hand, if in step 1 you failed to verify that the card is fine, then proceed to step 5 immediately. Computers can read memory cards better than smartphones that’s why it’s recommended that if the phone fails to read and write on the SD card, you should let your laptop or computer do the job. However, if the computer can’t also read from it, then it’s damaged.

Galaxy S7 corrupted photos moved to the SD card

Problem: Have installed Samsung 128gb evo+ micro SD card. Pictures moved to sd card okay but a day later they are corrupted. I noticed when I formatted it stopped at 20% then a couple minutes later it stated formatting done. But I  never saw the complete process. Thanks.

Answer: Since you’ve already tried reformatting it, I assume you’ve already backed up your files so we only have to worry about the SD card and not its contents. There’s a possibility that the card is really corrupt–at least, this is our first assumption–and the phone cannot read from it. While it was the right decision to reformat the card, there are cases wherein the phone cannot complete the process especially if the card is corrupt. Therefore, you need a computer to do the job.

Computers can read external storage devices better than smartphones so it’s worth a try. Reformat your SD card using FAT32 file system and then try to mount it back to your phone. We are, of course, assuming that your computer has successfully reformatted it and I guess, that’s the end of the problem.

However, if the computer cannot reformat the card, then it must be damaged especially if it doesn’t show any error messages like write protection at the start of the process.  In this case, you need to buy a new SD card to replace the damaged one.

Galaxy S7 experiencing intermittent SD card problem

Problem: I have on and off problems to save files (e.g.  jpeg, docx, doc, xls, xls xlsx, etc.) into the SD card that ‘mount’ on the phone. This problem sometimes can be solved by turning off and on the phone. Why is this so and are there any solutions to solve this problem permanently?  Thank you.

Answer: It is a sign that there are instances the phone cannot read nor write on the SD card and since it’s a minor glitch on either the firmware or the SD card, then a reboot can fix it but that’s just temporary as the problem may occur again.

In this case, it’s easier to troubleshoot the firmware first than to go after the SD card immediately. That being, here are the steps you should take in troubleshooting this problem:

Step 1: Boot the phone in safe mode and observe

This will rule out the possibility that some of the third-party apps may be causing the problem. So, try to restart the phone in safe mode and continue observing it to find out if the problem still occurs even with all third-parties are temporarily disabled.

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
  3. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
  4. You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.

While in this mode, try to verify if the problem is still happening and if so, the next step can help you.

Step 2: Delete all system caches to create new ones

System caches get corrupted all the time and while these files are expendable, if used by the system, issues like this may occur depending on whose cache is used. So, in this case, it might be the cache of the service that reads the SD card that’s being used and it might corrupt that’s why there are instances when the phone cannot read from the card.

Deleting the system cache will force the phone to create new ones, so here’s how you do it:

  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished wiping the cache partition. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

If the problem continues after these two steps, then it’s time to go after the SD card.

Step 3: Backup all your files and data first

Unmount your SD card from your phone and let your computer read from it. If your computer can read it, then use that opportunity to backup your data and files to make sure nothing will be lost. But this step is more than just backing up your files, it will also tell you whether the SD card is corrupt or damaged.

If the computer prompts you to reformat your card, then it means it can read from it but probably can’t determine the file system it uses. In other words, it’s corrupt. While there are tools that can help you recover your files, it’s your call if you want to immediately reformat it.

On the other hand, if the computer cannot detect nor recognize the card, it might be damaged already but you can still try to reformat it.

When formatting the card, make sure you use the FAT32 file system.

Step 4: Mount the SD card back to your phone

Assuming you’ve successfully reformatted the SD card, mount it back to your phone and see if it can detect it and if it can, then the problem may already been fixed. Otherwise, it’s time you bought a new microSD card.

Videos not found after reset on Galaxy S7

Problem: Hi, I did a factory reset without taking out my SD card (don’t worry I’ve already kicked myself). My card had photos, videos and music. After the reset I can see my photos but not videos, the file is now a grey box with an exclamation mark. I get “warning recording fail” when I try to take a new video. When I chose to play a song I get “music playback error.” Please help. Thank you.

Answer: You might have some photos that are saved in your phone’s internal storage while all your videos (due to the fact that they’re larger in size) may have been saved in your SD card. The camera app may have been set to save everything in the SD card as well. That being said, I think the problem is that the phone can no longer detect or read the card that’s why all that’s left of your videos are grey icons with exclamation mark that means the device has detected files but it can no longer locate them. As to the “warning recording fail” error, that usually pops up when the phone can’t save the pictures of videos to a certain location (in this case the SD card). I also think your music files are also saved in the SD card that’s why you’re getting the “music playback error” warning when trying to play your playlist.

So, you need to troubleshoot the microSD card and not your phone.

Step 1: Unmount the SD card and let your computer read it

This is to find out if the computer can actually read it because if so, you will have your chance to backup your photos, videos and music files. Once finished, reformat the card using FAT32 file system. After reformatting it, mount the SD card back to your phone and see if that fixes the problem.

Step 2: Replace SD card

It would only take a computer to tell us whether an SD card is corrupt and/or damaged. If you were able to remedy it but there are still instances wherein the phone cannot read from the card, don’t take any chances. Just buy a new card to make sure your files and data are safe.

Download / Install Apps from Samsung Galaxy Apps

There are a lot of apps you can download from Samsung’s market that you can use to make the most out of your new smartphone. If you don’t know it yet, here’s how you download apps from Galalaxy Apps:

How to update Galaxy S7 apps from Play Store

Developers often roll out updates for their apps to make sure they run smoothly and are compatible with current firmware versions for almost all Android devices. So, there will always come a time that you need to update an app and here’s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Find and touch Play Store.
  3. Touch the App drawer on the upper-left corner of the screen.
  4. Touch My apps & games.
  5. You will know if an app needs updating as there’s an ‘Update’ text next to it. You may tap the app and touch the ‘UPDATE’ button or just touch the ‘UPDATE ALL’ button to update all apps that have available updates.
  6. Depending on the size of the update and your connection speed, the process may take from a few seconds to a few minutes.

How to uninstall apps from Galaxy S7

There are applications you won’t use anymore, cause issues with your phone or take up so much space. These apps should be uninstalled from your phone to prevent further complications and this is how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Find Settings and tap on it.
  3. Scroll to and tap Applications.
  4. Tap Application manager.

How to clear cache and data and why it’s important

During the first time the app is launched, the system will create its cache so that the next time it runs, it will be smooth and fast. More often, these caches get corrupted and results to the app freezing and crashing so they need to be cleared or deleted. The same thing goes for data accumulated after several sessions of using the app. It is important you know how to do this procedure because there are times when a simple app crash will result to more complicated system and firmware issues that may lead to the phone freezing, lagging, crashing, rebooting, etc.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Find and tap on Settings.
  3. Touch Applications and then Application manager.
  4. Swipe to ALL tab.
  5. Find and touch the app in question.
  6. Touch the Force Close button first.
  7. Then, tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear cache and then Clear data, Delete.

There are times when apps crash causing the Settings service to crash as well, you cannot access the Application Manager. So, in this case, you need to boot your phone in safe mode so the app in question will be temporarily disabled before you continue your troubleshooting procedure. To boot your Galaxy S7 in safe mode, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
  3. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
  4. You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Once in safe mode, you can proceed with the clearing of the cache and data or uninstallation of the app.
