How to fix Elden Ring “unable to summon Cooperator” error?

Fixing the Elden Ring “unable to summon Cooperator” error has become quite frustrating for some people. That’s because there’s no universal fix for this bug right now. One person may have a different reason for the error from his friend or another player.

If you’re getting the Elden Ring “unable to summon Cooperator” error all the time, here are the solutions that you should try:

Fix #1: Restart the game.

For some players, a basic and quick “unable to summon Cooperator” fix that they discovered is by refreshing the game client.

So, before doing the rest of the solutions in this guide, we highly recommend that you close and relaunch Elden Ring on your PC or console.

If you’re playing the Steam version, consider closing both the Elden Ring game client and the Steam launcher using the Task Manager. To do that, just press together CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and find the processes for the game and Steam. Then, once a process  has been highlighted, click on the End Task button.

Fix #2: Check the Elden Ring server status.

For most players, the main reason for the “unable to summon Cooperator” message that they’re getting is server-related. The game is relatively new and hundreds of thousands of people play it at the same time on Steam alone every day. Although Elden Ring does not support full cross-platform gameplay, it’s still safe to say that there are hundreds of thousands of people also play on the Xbox and PlayStation systems day in and day out.

With such high number of players wanting to summon other players, it’s not hard to imagine that the server may sometimes block others from successfully summon too.

Aside from the possibility of overcrowded servers right now, there can also be other factors such as newly-discovered bugs or glitches that may warrant a server shut down.

The specific steps you may take to verify the server status vary depending on your device.

How to check Elden Ring server status on Steam

If you’re playing Elden Ring on PC, you may check the official Steam website to see if there’s any Elden Ring outage or maintenance affecting the platform.

Steam server status

To do so, go to the Steam server status page and see whether it indicates a PC server problem with the game right now.

How to check Elden Ring server status on PlayStation

PlayStation users may check the official PlayStation Network server status website to see if there are any Elden Ring-specific difficulties affecting the game’s multiplayer feature.

Multi-platform games may occasionally experience a platform-specific outage. For example, it’s possible that the multiplayer problem you’re now experiencing is limited to the PlayStation network, while Xbox and PC people may play without problems.

How to check Elden Ring server status on Xbox

Xbox users may also see a game server outage that affects only their version of the game. If you own the Xbox version of Elden Ring, go to the Xbox Status page.

When you’re on the site, be sure to click the drop-down arrow next to Games & Gaming to learn more about a specific game that isn’t operating properly at the moment.

Fix #3: Troubleshoot your internet connection.

If there’s no on-going server issue but you continue to get the “unable to summon Cooperator” message, the next step is to ensure that the cause of the problem is not coming from your end. Basically, what you want to do is to check your internet connection at home. To do that, you want to do a few troubleshooting steps.

Power cycle the router

The first step is to refresh your network equipment such as modem, router, switches, and any  other network devices you have.

Router ethernet

Simply turn off the device and unplug it from the power outlet for 30-60 seconds. This should let the device clear its system cache and hopefully get rid of network bugs.

Run a speed test

Another basic network troubleshooting that you must do as a possible “unable to summon Cooperator” fix is to ensure that your PC or console has enough bandwidth when you’re playing.

Low bandwidth occurs when the network becomes too busy due to many devices using the connection at the same time.

You can run a speed test on your PC or console to check the download and upload speeds. As an online game, you must have a minimum of 10 Mbps (download and upload) in your device. Anything slower than that may lead to connection difficulties.

If you think that your network is slow, or if you can’t seem to improve the bandwidth on your device, we suggest that you contact your Internet Service Provider so they can help you diagnose the issue.

Use  wired connection

If you rely on wifi, we recommend that you switch to an ethernet cable setup. A wireless connection is slower and less reliable than a wired setup so if possible, try to use a direct connection from  your device to your router using an ethernet cable.

Fix #4: Verify Easy Anti-Cheat is running.

Elden Ring will not allow you to join multiplayer if the Easy Anti-Cheat app is not running in the background. If your friends have already been summoned to another world while you’re left with the “unable to summon Cooperator” message, pull up the Task Manager to see if the Easy Anti-Cheat app is really running.

Easy Anti Cheat

If the app is absent in the Task Manager for some reason, close the game and Steam client and relaunch them afterwards. If relaunching the EAC helped to fix “unable to summon Cooperator” and it’s a one-time thing only, it may be a glitch in your system that causes  it.

However, if EAC is mysteriously being closed without you knowing it, there may be malware or some third party app interference that causes it.

Fix #5: Just be quick in snagging the summon signs.

As mentioned previously, it’s possible that the reason why you are getting the “unable to summon Cooperator” error is due to server  capacity limitations. However, if you can’t seem to see any summon signs, there may be other reasons for it. Make sure that you use the Furlcalling Finger Remedy. This item is needed in order for summon signs to appear.
