How To Fix Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Crashing | Xbox One

Is your Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered game crashing? Some Reddit users have started a thread about this issue a couple of months ago and it looks like it’s still going on at this time. If you are one of the unlucky gamers with this problem, this troubleshooting guide should help.

Why Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign is crashing?

There are a number of possible reasons why this game keeps crashing. Let’s take a quick look at each one below.

Xbox One encounters a random bug.

Computing devices like PC, smartphones, or gaming consoles can develop glitches from time to time. Most of the time, these glitches are temporary and usually go away on their own after a device has been rebooted. In an Xbox One particularly, some games may misbehave, freeze, or randomly crashes.

If you suddenly experiences crashing issue when playing Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, restarting your Xbox may be an easy fix.

Game or console software is outdated.

Unlike other Call of Duty games, Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is a largely finished product and is generally stable. Because it does not have an online multiplayer component, it does not require as many patches as the other COD games like the newer Call of Duty Modern Warfare or Warzone. In other words, the game is not as buggy anymore as the others but it may still require updates from time to time to improve known bugs.

The most likely source of issues with this game though is more likely to come from glitches with your console’s software. Make sure that your Xbox One runs the latest software version before playing Modern Warfare 2 Remastered again.

Console is overheating.

If your Xbox is located in an area with poor ventilation or if it’s exposed to heat all the time, overheating may be the reason for your crashing issue.

Unlike Modern Warfare 2 Warzone, which is known to cause overheating issues on both Xbox One and PS4 consoles, Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is a less demanding game and should run on any console without issues.

If your console is overheating when playing this game, it’s possible that environment or hardware condition play a role.

System cache is corrupted.

If Modern Warfare 2 Remastered keeps crashing at a certain point, like when you load a certain mission, you may have a bad saved game issue. It’s also possible that the console’s system cache is corrupted.

How to fix crashing or freezing issues on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered (Xbox One)

If you can’t figure out the cause why Modern Warfare 2 Remastered keeps crashing on your Xbox One, make sure to follow this troubleshooting guide. There’s no direct way to know where the issue lies so you’ll need to eliminate the causes one by one.

  1. Reboot your Xbox One.

If you haven’t done this yet, restarting the console may be your solution. Try restarting your Xbox normally either by pressing the Xbox Power button, or via the controller. If your console keeps freezing, shut it down by unplugging the Power cable from the back. Then, wait for at least 10 seconds before plugging it back in.Xbox One restart

  2. Update the game or console software.

Updates not only bring improvements but also patches for known issues. If your Xbox is constantly connected to the internet, it’s probably running the latest game and software versions. However, if your Xbox is not connected to the internet at all, it may need an update to lessen or fix bugs. Follow the steps below to check for updates.-Select the Home button in the center of your controller.-Select Settings.-Select System.-Available updates will be listed under Console info.Xbox One update

  3. Check for overheating.

If your Xbox is overheating, it may shut down on its own. Make sure that your console has good ventilation. You can do that by making sure that there’s no object blocking the sides and the back of the console. You also want to move the console away from sources of direct heat. Too much dust inside the console can block vents and cause overheating. Try cleaning your Xbox by removing dust externally, especially in the area near vents.Gameroom

  4. Clear your Xbox One cache.

Unlike the Xbox 360, there’s no setting in an Xbox One that allows you to clear the system cache directly. You’ll have to perform a power cycle to clear the cache. To do that, turn off your Xbox One and unplug the power cable from the back for about 30 seconds. Afterwards, turn the Xbox One on and see if the problem returns.Xbox one back panel

  5. Delete Modern Warfare 2 Remastered saved game data.

If the game works normally but crashes once you reach a certain part of the game or mission, there may be an issue with your saved game data. You can delete the game data to fix the problem.-From Xbox Home, go to Settings.-Go to System and select Storage.-Select Manage storage on the right-hand side of the screen, then select View contents.-Highlight a game, press the Menu button, and select Manage game.-Select Saved data on the left-hand side of the screen.-Choose a game to access the game’s saved data.-From here, use the Options Menu to delete files or to view more information about a specific file.

  6. Reset the Xbox One MAC Address.

Another possible solution that you can try is to force the Xbox One to get a new Media Access Control or MAC Address. Here’s how to do that:-Press the Xbox button.-Open Settings.-Go to Network and select Network settings.-Select Advanced settings.-Select Alternate MAC Address.-Select Clear.-Select Restart.Mac address
