How to fix Galaxy S10 can’t receive texts from an iPhone
If your S10 is having problems getting texts or MMS from an iPhone, the most likely cause is iMessage. This is a common occurrence for those switching from iOS to Android. If that’s not the reason for the trouble, we also include other troubleshooting steps that you can try below.
Confirm other contacts with non-iPhones work
First off, you want to verify if the problem is indeed happening when an iPhone is involved only. Try to check if you have the same problem with getting messages from an Android or non-Android platforms. If your S10 is receiving SMS and MMS fine from other Androids or from other non-iPhone or iOS devices, the most likely reason for that is iMessage. You must turn off iMessage first in order for your number to receive texts from an iPhone.
Turn off iMessage
There a few ways to turn off or deregister from Apple’s proprietary messaging system. iMessage is exclusive for iOS and Macs only so if you did not turn it off before switching to Android, the messages from your iPhone contacts are being sent in this closed system. Unless you check your messages using a Mac or iOS device, you’ll never get the chance to see them.
If you have your old iPhone
If you did not get rid of your iPhone, or if you still have it, you can deregister iMessage using your iPhone. This is the simplest way to turn off iMessage so you want to try it first. Here’s how it goes:
- Put the SIM card you transferred from your iPhone back into your iPhone.
- Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data network (such as 3G or LTE).
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Messages and turn off iMessage.
- Open Settings app.
- Tap FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.
If you don’t have your iPhone
If you already sold your iPhone, gave it to someone else, or if the device has become non-functional at this time, the other way to turn off iMessage is by going to Apple website. Once you’re in the website, simply enter your phone number in the box. Make sure to select the correct country. Then, wait for a few moments for the confirmation code and enter it in the second box.
Turning off iMessage is not immediate and may take some time to take effect. Wait for 24 hours to see if it’s been successful. If your S10 still can’t receive texts from an iPhone afterwards, proceed to the next possible solution.
Confirm you have the correct Apple ID
If your contacts have been sending you an iMessage to your Apple ID, this can another reason why your S10 can’t receive texts from iPhones. Make sure to check your Apple ID messages first, then tell your contacts to send their texts to your number instead. You should be able to check your iMessage sent to your Apple ID by using another Apple device.
Reset network settings
If you are positive that iMessage has already been deactivated and text messages are not sent to your Apple ID, then there may be an issue with your S10’s network settings. Try to clear it and see what happens. Here’s how:
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
- Tap Reset settings.
- If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
- Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.
Wipe the phone (factory reset)
Should none of the steps above help, you should not hesitate to wipe the phone with factory reset. Before you factory reset, make sure to create a backup of your personal data. Learn how to factory reset your Galaxy S10 by following these steps:
- Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Contact your carrier
If your S10 still can’t receive texts from an iPhone after doing all the suggestions above, you must consider getting help from your network operator. You’ve already tried everything that you can do on your level to try to fix the problem so apparently, there may be a problem with your account or with your carrier’s network. Make sure to tell them what you’ve done so far so they can skip the same troubleshooting steps.
