Note 8 Not Receiving Text Messages From iPhone Users

Problem: I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 directly from Samsung, and activated it on Canada’s Fido. I got a new phone number with a new sim card, and I am not a previous iPhone user. I noticed almost immediately that I am not receiving some of my text messages, and it appears these are only from iPhone users. The phone is set up correctly, and I have talked to tech support at my provider, but nothing helped so far. When I researched the issue I saw many relevant articles about a year ago (fall of 2017) about this problem, but I have not seen a solution to it. I also contacted Samsung tech support and the person I talked to claimed she did not know about the issue, and sending me to do a diagnostic on the hardware at a Samsung center. I really hate this running around in circles when to me it seems like this is a coding issue that could be solved relatively easily, but nobody wants to deal with it. Do you guys have any insight? Thanks in advance

Solution: If the number that you are using is new and has not been connected to an iMessage account then it’s likely that this is a network related issue. You can however check if the problem is caused by an issue with the phone by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if you have blocked certain numbers from texting your phone. To do this open the Messages app then tap on the three dots icon. Tap on Settings then tap on Block Messages. Tap on Block Numbers then tap the minus sign next to the number you want to remove.
  • Check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try clearing the cache and data of the messages app from the application manager then check if the problem still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Try using a different SIM card in your phone.

In case the issue persists then you will need to have the phone checked at a service center.

Note 8 Cannot Send Text Message To Premium Numbers

Problem: I used to be able to text to short codes. Yesterday I tried to and it wouldn’t let me. I was talking (not on phone) at the time and ithink a message popped up but it went away quickly so I’m thinking i must’ve made a wrong choice. I can’t find a way to turn on shortcode texting abilities on the Note 8. I don’t get an error code but when i hit send i get “message failed” and I’d try again it locks up. I use mood messenger as my default texting app but i changed my default app back to messages and have the same issue so I’m figuring it is a phone setting, not an app setting. I’m having no other texting issues. Please help, I’m so frustrated.

Solution: It’s likely that the sending to premium SMS numbers of your phone has been turned off. To turn it on just follow the steps listed below.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  • Go to Settings then Apps.
  • Tap the Menu icon
  • Tap Special access.
  • Tap Use Premium text message services.
  • Tap the app then select the Always option

Note 8 Wrong Time On Received Text Messages

Problem: All text messages that I send are timed correctly; however, all received messages are timed for one hour past the time I actually received them. So all of my sent messages automatically go to the very top of conversation and all received ones stay at the bottom. It can make a conversation very confusing.

Solution: It’s very likely that the problem is caused by your phone having a different time and or date with the carrier. The best way to fix this is to set the time and date of the phone to automatically get from the network.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  • Go to Settings- General management – Date and time.
  • Use the network-provided values, ensure that Automatic date and time is on
