How to Fix Call of Duty Warzone Not Updating

Call of Duty Warzone updates can get stuck, fail to download, or show errors that prevent the game from updating to the latest version. Here are all the methods to fix update issues on PC and console.

Method 1: Restart Your Game Launcher

Restarting the game launcher clears temporary issues that can prevent updates from downloading.

  1. Close Warzone if it is running.
  2. On Steam: Click Steam in the top menu, then Exit.
  3. On Battle.net: Click the Blizzard icon in the top left, then Exit.
  4. Wait 10 seconds and reopen the launcher.
  5. The update should start automatically. If not, click Update or Play.

Method 2: Check Your Internet Connection

Warzone updates are large files that require a stable internet connection. A slow or unstable connection can cause downloads to stall.

  1. Open a browser and run a speed test at fast.com.
  2. If your connection is slow, restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
  3. Switch to a wired Ethernet connection if possible.
  4. Pause any other downloads or streaming on your network during the update.

Method 3: Pause and Resume the Download

Pausing and resuming the download can fix a stalled update by restarting the download process.

  1. In your game launcher, find the download progress indicator.
  2. Click Pause to stop the download.
  3. Wait 10 seconds.
  4. Click Resume to restart the download.
  5. On consoles: Go to your downloads queue, cancel the download, and start it again.

Method 4: Check Storage Space

Warzone updates can require significant free space. If your drive is full, the update cannot download or install.

  1. On PC: Open File Explorer and check the free space on the drive where Warzone is installed.
  2. On PlayStation: Go to Settings, then Storage, and check available space.
  3. On Xbox: Go to Settings, then System, then Storage.
  4. Free up at least 50GB of space for Warzone updates.
  5. Delete games, apps, or files you no longer need.

Method 5: Clear Download Cache

A corrupted download cache can prevent updates from processing correctly.

  1. On Steam: Go to Steam Settings, then Downloads, then Clear Download Cache.
  2. On Battle.net: Navigate to the Battle.net folder and delete the Cache folder contents.
  3. Restart the launcher and try updating again.

Method 6: Scan and Repair Game Files

Corrupted existing game files can prevent new updates from installing properly.

  1. On Steam: Right-click Warzone, Properties, Installed Files, Verify integrity of game files.
  2. On Battle.net: Click the gear icon next to Play, then Scan and Repair.
  3. Wait for the scan to complete and fix any corrupted files.
  4. Try updating again after the repair.

Method 7: Change Download Region

Switching to a less congested download region can speed up a stuck update.

  1. On Steam: Go to Steam Settings, then Downloads, then Download Region. Select a different nearby region.
  2. On Battle.net: Click the Blizzard icon, then Settings, then Game Install/Update, then change the region.
  3. Restart the launcher and try the update again.

Method 8: Reinstall the Game

If updates continue to fail, a complete reinstall downloads the latest version with all updates included.

  1. Uninstall Warzone from your launcher or console.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Download and install Warzone fresh.
  4. The latest version with all updates will be installed automatically.
