S4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: I have recently tried to start my Samsung galaxy S4 mobile, but as a surprise, it does not work. I can press the power button, and the samsung logo appears..but, it freezes, nothing happens it stays frozen until i take the battery out again. Please help!

Solution: What you will want to do in this case is to make sure that your phone does not have any microSD card installed. There have been cases where a corrupt microSD can prevent a phone from fully booting up. Next, take out your phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone.

If your phone is still stuck in the Samsung logo then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • After the the cache wipe is complete, press the Power key to select reboot system now.
  • Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

If the problem still persists then I suggest performing a factory reset. Take note that this procedure will delete your phone data. you should only do this if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.

S4 Does Not Charge

Problem: So I recently bought a new Samsung Galaxy S4 and it was working fine. The first few times I connected it to a charger it was working great. However, as my battery started to drain I plugged it into a charger but it wouldn’t charge. I tried at least 5 different chargers in different places such as a car and at home before it died. Now that its completely dead I tried connecting it to a charger but all it does is vibrate every two seconds. I tried unsticking the power button by repeatedly pressing it but it still wont work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Solution: Try checking the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or lint. If you spot any then clean it using a toothpick or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Using compressed air also helps in cleaning the port if you have one available.

Do you have a spare battery? Try to insert it in your phone and see if it charges.

If the problem persists then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center to have it checked. Your phone charging port or power IC may have a problem.

S4 Use Original Charger And Cable Error

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy S4 that is 2 years old. I replaced the battery about 3 months ago. I get this warning when charging phone: The connected charger will take longer to charge. To charge faster, use the original charger and cable that were provided with this phone. I am using original charger and cable. Thanks

Solution: This usually happens when the phone detects that a third party charger or charging cord is being used.

Sometimes though, even if you are using the original charger and cable the error message still pop up.

When this happens the first thing you need to check is the presence of dirt or lint on the charging port of your phone and the USB cord. This may interfere with the charging process and may be causing this error message. If you spot any then use a toothpick or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol for cleaning. You may also used compressed air if you have it available.

Another possible cause of this problem is the charging cord. This cord gets easily damaged which is why you should try to replace it and see if the error message goes away. If the issue persists then try using a different charger.

In case the error message is caused by a glitch in the software I suggest you try wiping the cache partition of your phone.

Finally, if the issue still persists you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 Stuck In Boot Loop

Problem: Hi, i have a real issue with my samsung galaxy s4 gti9500. its stuck in a boot loop which has happened twice before. it has gotten progressively worse however, as the first time the issue occured i needed to only wipe cache, the second i had to do a full reboot via the recovery mode. this time ive not been able to boot into safe mode, or recovery mode, i can boot into download mode for a few seconds before the phone resets again. while like this the volume up button wont allow it past the warning screen. im so desperate to get it working again as i have all of my work for final exams on it.

Solution: First, make sure that the volume button is working properly since if this is faulty you won’t be able to enter recovery.

Next, you need to take out the microSd card of your phone if it has any installed. Take out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This completely discharges any residual power left in the phone. Reinsert the battery and let it charge using the wall charger for at least 20 minutes. Try to turn on your phone after this.

If the issue still persists then attempt to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If this doesn’t help then you will have to proceed with a factory reset followed by reflashing your phone software if the factory reset fails. Take note that both of these procedures will delete the data stored in your phone.
