How to set up Fitbit Versa | easy instructions to configure Fitbit Versa for the first time

Before you can start using your Fitbit Versa, you must set it up first. The entire procedure is simple although it requires some basic things like following easy instructions, wifi internet connection, and a little patience. It may take about 30 minutes to do the entire process though a huge chunk of that time is to wait. Be sure not to interrupt the process once it’s began to avoid causing sync troubles. Although you can use your watch as a stand alone device, we suggest that you connect it your phone, tablet, or computer so you can see your progress in your Fitbit account. In your Fitbit account, you can see your stats, analyze historical trends, set goals, log food and water, connect with friends, and more.

How to set up Fitbit Versa | easy instructions to configure Fitbit Versa for the first time

It’s easy to set up Fitbit Versa, even for non-tech savvy users. Below are the steps to follow to begin using your watch.

Set up Fitbit Versa step #1: Download and install Fitbit app

The first thing that you want to do is to ensure that you have the Fitbit app in your phone, tablet, or computer. The app is what makes your Fitbit Versa a good complement to your phone, tablet or PC. Without it, you won’t be able to fully enjoy the things that makes your smart tracker amazing. You can download the app depending on the device you’re using.

  • For Android devices, visit the Play Store and follow this link.
  • For Apple devices, open the Apple App Store and download with this link.
  • If you’re pairing a computer, phone, or tablet with Windows 10 OS, you need to visit Microsoft Store.

Keep in mind that you can only download and install an app from Microsoft store if you have a Microsoft  account.

Set up Fitbit Versa step #2: Create Fitbit account

Once the Fitbit app has been installed on your device, the next step to Set up Fitbit Versa is to hit the Join Fitbit button. This opens the process of creating a Fitbit account. Just follow the instructions on the screen to create your Fitbit account. You’ll need an email account for this setup so be sure that you use the one you’re checking regularly. Try to avoid using emails that you don’t use often as that might cause you to forget your Fitbit login in the future. During account set up, Fitbit will ask you personal information such as your full name, gender, height, weight, among others. These information are needed to allow the app and your Fitbit Versa to calculate your basal metabolic rate or BMR. This, in turn, helps in determining your Body Mass Inded and estimated calorie expenditure. Don’t worry, the information gathered by the app are set to be hidden by default unless you opt to share them with your contacts or friends.

During the installation, your Fitbit Versa will ask you to connect to wifi. This is needed in order for it to connect your tracker to your network to do some things such as download music playlists, download apps from Fitbit App Gallery, install firmware and OS updates, and other to configure other settings. So, we highly recommend that you are at home when setting up your watch so you can have a stable and fast internet connection.

If you already have a Fitbit account, simply hit Log in option instead of Join Fitbit. Then, enter your credentials to access your account again. After signing in, the device may ask you to install an update. This depends on the state of the app during installation.

Set up Fitbit Versa step #3: Pair the devices

The final step to set up your Fitbit Versa would be to pair up the devices. Once you’ve done that, you can then start enjoying your smart watch.

How to set up Fitbit Versa if there’s no phone or tablet

You can still enjoy your Fitbit Versa watch even if you have a compatible phone or tablet by using a computer. The thing is, your computer must have Bluetooth capability in order for this to work. Most laptops already come with Bluetooth functionality so if what you have is a desktop and it doesn’t have Bluetooth, you need to secure a wireless sync dongle first like this one. You don’t necessarily need to buy a Fitbit-branded dongle. Visit your local electronics store and inquire about this device if you have no idea what to get. Then, install the Fitbit Connect app on your computer. Fitbit Connect is a free software that lets you sync your computer with your Fitbit Versa. To set Fitbit Connect up on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. If your computer isn’t Bluetooth-enabled, insert a wireless sync dongle into a USB port on your computer. If you’re using a laptop, enable Bluetooth.
  2. Go to http://www.fitbit.com/setup.
  3. Scroll down and click the pink Download button.
  4. After the download completes, double-click the downloaded file to start installation.
  5. After installing, when prompted, choose Set up a New Fitbit Device.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a Fitbit account and connect your device.

That’s it! Your Fitbit Versa should be up and running by now. Go move!
