How to Factory Reset Your Fitbit Versa (All Models)

Factory resetting your Fitbit Versa erases all personal data stored on the device and restores it to its original out-of-box state. Whether you’re selling it, gifting it, troubleshooting a persistent bug, or starting fresh, this guide covers every Fitbit Versa model — original Versa, Versa Lite, Versa 2, Versa 3, and Versa 4 — with exact steps for each.

Before you reset: Sync your watch to the Fitbit app first. Health data (steps, sleep, heart rate, workouts) that’s already synced to your Fitbit account is stored in the cloud and won’t be lost. Only unsynced data — anything recorded since the last sync — is permanently deleted from the device.

What a Factory Reset Erases

A factory reset on any Fitbit Versa model deletes the following from the device itself:

  • All personal data not yet synced to your Fitbit account
  • Saved alarms, goals, and notifications
  • Installed apps and clock faces
  • Wallet/payment cards (on models with contactless payments)
  • Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings
  • Language and regional settings

Data already synced to your Fitbit account remains accessible through the app after you set the device up again.

Should You Remove the Device from Your Account First?

If you’re keeping the watch for yourself — resetting to fix a bug or start fresh — you don’t need to remove it from your account first. Just reset the watch, then open the Fitbit app to re-pair it.

If you’re selling or giving away the watch, remove it from your Fitbit account before handing it over. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Fitbit app on your phone
  2. Tap your profile picture (top left)
  3. Tap your Fitbit Versa from the device list
  4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Remove Device (Android) or the trash icon (iOS)
  5. Confirm removal

This delinks your account so the next owner can pair it to their own Fitbit account cleanly.

Fitbit Versa (Original) — Factory Reset

The original Fitbit Versa (2018) has three physical buttons: one on the left side, and two stacked on the right side (top right and bottom right).

Method 1: Settings Menu (Recommended)

  1. Press the Left button to wake the watch
  2. Swipe left to find the Settings app and tap it
  3. Scroll down to About
  4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Factory Reset
  5. Confirm when prompted

Method 2: Hard Reset via Buttons (Use if Watch is Unresponsive)

This method requires precise timing — read all steps before starting:

  1. Connect the Versa to its charging cable
  2. Hold all three buttons simultaneously for about 15 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears
  3. When the Fitbit logo disappears, immediately release the Bottom Right button — continue holding the Left and Top Right buttons
  4. Hold until you feel a strong vibration — this confirms the factory reset was initiated
  5. The screen will show the static Fitbit logo briefly, then boot to a “Go to Fitbit.com/setup” screen

Tip: Timing is critical on this model. If you release the Bottom Right button too late, or hold all three too long, the watch reboots normally without resetting. If that happens, try again from step 1.

Fitbit Versa Lite — Factory Reset

The Versa Lite has only one physical button on the left side (it lacks the two right-side buttons of the standard Versa).

Method 1: Settings Menu

  1. Press the Left button to wake the watch
  2. Swipe left to find Settings and tap it
  3. Tap About, then scroll to Factory Reset
  4. Confirm

Method 2: Hard Reset via Button (Unresponsive Watch)

  1. Connect the Versa Lite to its charging cable
  2. Hold the single Left button — the device reboots after about 8 seconds; keep holding through the reboot
  3. When the Fitbit logo appears, wait for it to disappear
  4. Release the button briefly (less than 2 seconds)
  5. Press and hold the button again immediately
  6. Hold until you feel a long, strong vibration — factory reset is now in progress

Fitbit Versa 2 — Factory Reset

The Versa 2 has a single button on the left side and uses a touchscreen for navigation.

Method 1: Settings Menu

  1. Press the Left button or swipe up to wake the screen
  2. Swipe left until you see the Settings app; tap it
  3. Scroll down to About
  4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Factory Reset
  5. A confirmation screen appears — tap Reset to confirm
  6. The Fitbit logo appears on screen as the reset completes

Method 2: Hard Reset via Button (Unresponsive Watch)

  1. Connect the Versa 2 to its charging cable
  2. Press and hold the Left button for about 10–12 seconds
  3. Release when the Fitbit logo appears (this restarts the watch)
  4. If frozen or stuck, repeat and hold slightly longer

Note: The Versa 2’s hard button reset is a restart, not a full factory reset. For a full data wipe, use Method 1 or the Fitbit app removal process described above.

Fitbit Versa 3 — Factory Reset

The Versa 3 has a single touch-sensitive button on the left side.

Method 1: From the Watch

  1. Press the side button to wake the watch, or swipe down from the top edge
  2. Swipe left to reach the Settings app
  3. Scroll down to About Versa 3
  4. Scroll to Factory Reset and tap it
  5. Tap Yes to confirm

Method 2: From the Fitbit App

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap your profile icon
  2. Tap Versa 3 from your device list
  3. Scroll to Remove Fitbit Device
  4. Confirm — this removes the device from your account and wipes the watch

Fitbit Versa 4 — Factory Reset

The Versa 4 also has a single physical button and a touchscreen. As of 2025, the on-device factory reset is accessed slightly differently.

Method 1: From the Watch

  1. Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open Quick Settings
  2. Tap the Settings cog icon
  3. Scroll down to About Versa 4
  4. Tap Factory Reset and confirm

Alternatively: Press the side button to open the app list → scroll to SettingsAbout Versa 4Factory Reset.

Method 2: From the Fitbit App

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap your profile picture
  2. Select Versa 4 from your connected devices
  3. Scroll to Remove Device and confirm
  4. This wipes the watch and removes it from your account simultaneously

At a Glance: Reset Methods by Model

Model Physical Buttons Menu Path Hard Reset Method
Versa (original) 3 (left, top-right, bottom-right) Settings → About → Factory Reset Hold all 3, release bottom-right on logo disappear
Versa Lite 1 (left) Settings → About → Factory Reset Hold, release briefly after logo, hold again for vibration

After the Reset: Setting Up Your Fitbit Versa Again

Once the factory reset completes, your watch displays “Go to Fitbit.com/setup” or shows a startup pairing screen. To set it up:

  1. Open the Fitbit app on your phone
  2. Tap your profile iconSet Up a Device
  3. Select your Versa model and follow the on-screen prompts
  4. Once paired, your previously synced health data — steps, sleep, heart rate history — loads back automatically

Troubleshooting: Factory Reset Won’t Work

Reset seems to complete but watch won’t start up: Charge the watch for at least 30 minutes and try the restart procedure again (hold left button until Fitbit logo appears and release).

Watch stuck on logo after reset: This sometimes happens if the battery was critically low during the reset. Connect to the charger and wait — the watch usually boots after 10–20 minutes.

Can’t pair after reset: Go into your phone’s Bluetooth settings and remove any saved Fitbit devices. Restart your phone. Then run setup from scratch in the Fitbit app as if the watch is new.

Fitbit app shows old device after factory reset: If you did the on-watch reset without removing it from the app first, the device may still appear in your account. Go to your profile → device → Remove Device in the app, then re-add it.

Hard reset on original Versa doesn’t work after multiple attempts: Make sure the watch is on the charger — the hard reset won’t initiate reliably on low battery. Also verify the exact timing: all three buttons until the logo appears, release only the bottom-right when the logo disappears (not before, not after), then hold the remaining two until the vibration.

When to Contact Fitbit Support

If the watch is completely unresponsive to all button combinations and won’t show any display even when charged, there may be a hardware fault. Contact Fitbit (now owned by Google) support:

  • Online support chat: support.google.com/fitbit
  • Phone: 1-877-623-4997 (US, available Mon–Fri)
  • Warranty: Fitbit offers a 1-year limited warranty on hardware. If the watch is within warranty and failed due to a hardware defect, you may be eligible for a replacement.

Considering an Upgrade?

If your Fitbit Versa (original or Lite) is aging and you’re resetting to sell it, the current lineup is worth a look. The Versa 4 adds built-in GPS, Google Maps, Google Wallet, and Alexa, with a 6+ day battery life.
