How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus with Youtube app that keeps crashing

The purpose of this troubleshooting guide is for us to determine and fix the problem and while this may seem like a serious issue, more often than not, it’s just a minor problem with the app or the firmware. The following procedures can surely help you fix it…

Restart your Galaxy S9 Plus – just before you do any troubleshooting procedure, make sure you reboot your phone first because there’s always a chance that this error is caused by a temporary glitch in the system. After the reboot, open Youtube to know if it still crashes and if it does, then try doing the Forced Reboot: press and hold the volume down and power keys together for 10 seconds or more so that your phone’s memory will be refreshed. After which, try to see if the problem remains and move on to the next procedure if it does.

Reset Youtube – by this, I mean to clear its cache and data so that it will be brought back to its default settings and configuration. If this is just a minor problem with the app, then this procedure is more than enough to fix it. You should try this before moving on to the next procedures because the error message specifically mentions Youtube to be the one crashing. If the problem continues are this, then try to determine if this is due to a third-party apps.

Restart your phone in Safe Mode – rebooting your phone in safe mode means disabling all third-party applications. This will immediately tell you if the crashing of the Youtube app is caused by a third party or not. If Youtube doesn’t crash while in safe mode, then it means there’s a third-party application that causes it to crash. The next thing you should do if this is the case is to find out which of your apps is causing the problem and uninstall it. However, if the problem continues even in this mode, then it could be a firmware issue considering the fact that Youtube is a pre-installed application.

Delete the system cache – the firmware creates small files that it uses to make your phone run smoothly and these files are what we call system cache. When these files get corrupted or become obsolete, performance issues may occur which includes crashing of apps. In this case, you need to delete the system cache so that it will be replaced with new files and you can do that by running your phone in recovery mode and wipe the cache partition from there. After doing that and the app still crashes, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Do the Master Reset – for app issues, a reset is more than enough to fix the problem provided that the firmware hasn’t been modified. Youtube is one of the apps that come pre-installed on your phone. It’s embedded in the firmware and if it crashes, there’s a chance that the problem is actually just a result of a more serious firmware issue. To address such problem, you need to reset your phone, however, make sure that you make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process.

How to Reset Youtube

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Messenger.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear cache.
  6. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  7. Reboot your phone.

How to run your phone in Safe mode

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

How to uninstall third-party apps from your phone

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list.
  4. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

How to wipe cache partition

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  4. An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to do the Master Reset

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
