Problem: My S7 Edge went dark and flashes when I hit the home or power key.  I have done a hard reboot (volume down power) several times, it flickers, reboots with a flickering screen but I can see it reboot, LED blue light goes on during reboot, then goes dark again after reboot.  I connected it to my surface to see if it recognized it, it does but it doesn’t stay, it connects and disconnects over and over and doesn’t stay connected, I can see a driver error message on the connected device icon in the devices on my surface when it connects for about a second.  I don’t know what else to do.  I let my battery run low and it died while I was on a call, then I charged it up to a few % and used it again, then I plugged it in to charge it. Then I moved it to a different outlet and it started doing this. help! Is my phone hosed?

Solution: As you indicated that the phone’s screen went black but the LED still lighting up, there is a chance that this is just a glitch in the system. In fact, this issue is common to all android users wherein the device will immediately become unresponsive without apparent reason. Although we are not really sure what caused the problem, so, what we have to do now is to troubleshoot first the software department to make sure that this it is not a software issue. However, if the battery is faulty and could no longer provide the required power to the device that could be the reason that your device is unable to turn on. If that’s the case, there’s no point to troubleshoot the device, instead, bring it to the nearest shop in your area so that the technician can check and fix it. Here are the methods that you should do:

Step 1: Charge the device for 15-20 minutes

In this type of issue it is imperative to verify the battery condition of your phone by charging it for 15-20 minutes. While in this state observe closely if the device is responding or able to power on, if it is, then the battery might be drained during that time that is why your phone won’t turn on. Also, make sure that the USB cable that you are using is not broken or has any damage because if there is, there is a big chance that the device won’t charge. However, after you checked all of it and charge the device for 15-20 minutes and still not responding, then follow the next method.

Step 2: Try booting up in Safe Mode

This time, we have to verify if one of the apps you downloaded from Play Store is the main factor that your phone refuses to turn on. In this method, only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in the firmware while the third-party ones will be deactivated temporarily. So, if it boots up while in this mode, obviously, there’s an app responsible for it. Step 3: Try to boot in Recovery Mode and wipe cache partition

The system caches are temporary files stored in the directory to make it easier the device to load-up those files every time your phone will use it. But if those apps are corrupted and caused conflict to the system that would be the reason that your device function abnormally. In this procedure, we will wiped out all those files in the directory so that your phone can create newer and fresher files that could run perfectly in the system. But nothing to worry about this method, because  this won’t delete your important files and settings. This is how to wipe the system cache:

  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.

After you clear the system cache partition and your phone still refuses to turn on, then you don’t have a choice but to do reset.

Step 4: Start in recovery mode and Reset your phone, if possible

As far as troubleshooting is concerned, you already did what you can to fix the issue. But since the problem is still happening, then your last resort is to do the reset on your phone.
