Troubleshooting Galaxy S7 Edge that randomly restarts

Problem: Hello! So, I have this problem with my phone, It’s a Samsung S7 Edge (SM-G935F), it continue to restart itself alone, intervals between 2-3 mins or less. Another problem is that my keyboard doesn’t appear. I tried to put it on safe mode and then reset the device but in the middle of resetting it restarts again. Please help!

Solution: This type of issue is not new and not just Samsung phones have it but other devices as well that run an Android operating system. As you mentioned that you already boot your phone in safe mode but the problem still happening, then, there may be another factor causing it. More often, if the files and data become obsolete and the firmware is unable to recognized once it is loaded that would be another reason that it is crashing and could not boot up successfully. But since it’s too early to jump to the conclusion the best thing that you should do is to determine first all possibilities by doing the step by step procedure on your phone. Here are the methods that you should do:

Delete the System Cache Partition via Recovery mode

System caches are temporary files that the device is using when you have to launch apps and other tasks that you do on your phone. If these files become outdated or corrupted, there is a chance that your phone will function abnormally. In this instance, we have to delete all caches so that they will be replaced with new ones. This is how you do it:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

After you do so, turn on your phone and see if the problem is fixed. If it is, then, it is clear that corrupted caches are responsible for it and triggered the issue. But if your device still is restarting randomly after this, try doing the next procedure.

Use your phone in Safe mode

There is a chance that some of the apps you installed are causing the problem so we will have to rule this possibility out after wiping the cache partition and the problem still continues. All third-party apps are temporarily disabled when you start your phone up in safe mode. If one or some of those apps is the cause of the problem, then your Galaxy S7 Edge won’t restart on its own when in this phone. This is how you boot your phone up in this mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Assuming your phone doesn’t reboot on its own when in this mode, then it’s clear enough that the problem is caused by one or some of the apps you installed. Find that app and uninstall it:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap Menu icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

However, if the problem continues even in safe mode, then you have no other choice but the reset your phone.

Backup your important files and reset your phone

A reset will clear things up from your phone. It will delete all your personal files and data that’s why you need to make a backup of them prior to the reset. It will also delete all your preferences and bring the phone back to its default settings. In other words, it’s a very effective method in fixing firmware-related issues. Follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key. NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds. NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

If the problem continues after the reset, then you have to bring your phone to the tech and have him take a look at it.
