Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Randomly Turns Off

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is a flagship phone released last year that is best known for its use of a new design structure that differs from its predecessor. The front of the phone is mostly occupied  by the display and it has very minimal bezels with no more physical button. The fingerprint sensor has now been moved to the back to accommodate the large 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display of the phone. Although this is a solid performing device there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 randomly turns off issue and other related problems.

S8 Randomly Turns Off

Problem: My Galaxy S8 started turning off on me about a week ago.  By turn off I mean it is as if it is completely powered down and this does not happen from the normal shutdown process.  I can give the power button a quick click, like I have been doing for the past year, and rather than the screen just going off the phone is dead (completely shutdown).  Note: the phone can do this same immediate power down if I just leave it on and do not touch it. It seems to only happen after the screen goes dark so I have no way to knowing if the phone is or isn’t off until I try to use it.  I can’t restart the phone easily either after this happens. When this happens I need to hold the power button and volume down button for a while to get to a screen that allows me to restart normally, reset to factory settings, restart in safe mode, or power down.  Even the extreme start approach where I hold the volume down button and power button for a while doesn’t always work. If I try for a while or possibly wait for a few minutes and try again I eventually get the phone to restart. This isn’t practical since the phone may be off for hours without me realizing it since sometimes the phone just powers down without me knowing it. I am currently running the phone in safe mode to see if that helps.  I am not a big fan of a factory reset since I’m never sure if I will be able to restore everything on my phone. Is it time for a new phone or is there a way for me to rescue this phone?

Solution: Do you happen to have a microSD card installed in the phone? Sometimes this card can cause this particular issue especially if it has corrupt sectors. Try removing this card then check if the issue still occurs.

In case your phone does not have a microSD card or if the problem still occurs even after the card is removed then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data ( I recommend that you use Smart Switch) then do a factory reset. Check if the issue still occurs.

In case the problem persists even after performing the steps listed above then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Will Not Charge

Problem: My phone just will not charge. So now it is run completely down and will not turn on at all. I had someone buy me several different cords. I am disabled and can’t get out. I need my phone. Help my phone started doing this after it did the new update if that helps. I could not set individual notification sounds either after update.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris that might be in this port as this could interfere with the charging process.Once the port is clean you should try charging the phone for at least 20 minutes with its wall charger then attempt to turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.

In case the phone does not start then you should try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge the phone. You should also try charging the phone from a computer USB port.

If the phone still does not charge or turn on at this point then you will need to have this checked at a service center as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.

S8 Takes Too Long To Charge

Problem: i have a samsung galaxy S8 that started having charging/battery issues. Starting on Thursday i noticed that it took practically all day to charge to 100% and  today at 2:30 am i charged it and it took more than the estimated time that it said it would be charge. When I move the phone it will disconnect from charging and when i use the phone while it’s charging the charge/battery would go down. I have had the phone for less than year. If I replace the battery and get a new charger will that solve the issue?

Solution: Replacing the battery and using a new charger will most likely fix this problem. Before doing this procedure you should try doing a factory reset first on your phone. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with the battery replacement.
