S7 Edge Can’t Preview Text Messages
Problem: I have text message preview on my phone and all was well. My phone factory reset on its own and now I cannot see any preview of my text messages like before. It just shows I have a message but not so from or the message. I hate that it factory reset because now I’m having major issues within the phone itself. How can I fix this issue when the box is already checked to preview on any screen except lock screen?
Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to disable the preview messages setting then enable it again.
- Go to Menu and select on Settings
- Browse for Applications and select Messages
- Select Notifications
- Go to the section called Preview Message
- There are two options here, “Lock Screen” and the other saying “Status Bar”, uncheck them
- Restart the phone.
- Go back to the preview message setting then check both boxes.
S7 Edge Text Message Back Button Opens Home Screen
Problem: I have a galaxy s7 edge and I’m experiencing some annoying issues with messaging. Within the messaging app there is a back button at the upper left corner. When you are in a conversation and tap this button it should take you to a list of conversations so that you can switch between them, at least that’s what it used to do. Now when I tap that button I’m taken to my desktop, as if I had tapped the back button at the bottom right of the phone. I’ve tried all the basic corrective actions and nothing has worked, software glitch?
Solution: Pressing this back arrow should take you back to the main text messaging list and not the phone’s home screen. This might be due to some software glitch. Try clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S7 Edge Not Displaying Unread Counter In Text Message Icon
Problem: Good day. I always had an android, and recently purchased the Samsung S7 Edge, and can’t figure out why/how when I get text messages the icon on the screen doesn’t display that I have unread messages. On the S5, you would see the number of unviewed txt and calls over the icon on the screen. Does the 7 Edge not do this? If not, why? Thank you.
Solution: Your phone should be displaying this icon. Try restarting the device then check if the issue is resolved. If it isn’t then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app from the application manager.
- Try clearing the cache and data of the badgeprovider app from the application manager.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S7 Edge Splits Long Text Messages
Problem: Ok so my phone splits long text messages into multiple and I have read your other articles answering this problem but it always says that once you go to more settings in in the message settings there should be an auto combine option to use but my phone doesn’t have that so I am very confused on what to do once I get to that stage.
Solution: Long text messages that are split into smaller messages usually depends on what carrier your phone is running on and what software version it is using. If your phone doesn’t have na auto combine option then this is due to its software version. Try updating your phone software then see if it appears. If the setting is still not present then it might not be included for this particular phone variant.
One workaround for this issue is to send the message as a MMS as it is able to handle more characters compared to the usual SMS.
S7 Edge Group Messages Arrive As Single Messages
Problem: Is there a way to have incoming group messaging show as one message with all users on message instead of each individual incoming message separate under each contact? Also could it be because they are using an iPhone group chat our android phones. I can’t find the setting to change this anywhere
Solution: Your phone should have an active mobile data subscription and its mobile switch should be turned on to receive the group message as one message. Also, if the other people in the group chat are using iPhones then the messages are most likely sent as an iMessage and since you are using an Android device it will arrive in your end as a single text message.
S7 Edge Can’t Access Old Text Messages
Problem: I cannot access my old text messages. I have checked under Apps Messages Settings and the Delete Old Messages has not been checked so I don’t know why older messages have been automatically deleted. Is there any way of retrieving them? Thanks for your help.
Solution: If the delete old messages setting is disabled and you are missing some older text messages then they might have been accidentally deleted. Once these messages are deleted there’s no way of accessing them again.
S7 Edge Low Quality Pictures In MMS
Problem: when I try to send pictures as a text message, the picture seems to downgrade in quality so it can send faster. In this process, the picture somehow becomes corrupt and I don’t know why.
Solution: Some carriers usually impose some limits in the maximum file size of the photo or video that is sent in a message. This is why the original photo is downgraded. You could try using the Hangouts app to send the pictures however the recipient should also be using this app.
