S6 Text Message Sending Fails
Problem: Hello, I recently updated my galaxy s6. I had already encountered a few issues with messaging, such as slow sending or downloading times and some other troubleshooting posts you had done helped with that. This time I can receive texts, but any outgoing messages pop up as failed or just continue to say sending and the recipient never gets them. I’ve cleared the cache and the data for messaging and don’t know what else to do right now.
Solution: You did a good job in clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app as this is usually the first thing that needs to be done in this particular case. Since the problem still persists then the next step is to check if your phone is using the correct message center number.
- Tap Messages.
- Tap MORE.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap More settings.
- Tap Text messages.
- Tap Message centre.
Make sure that the message center number matches the one your carrier is using.
Once you have made sure that the phone is using the correct message center number then and the issue still occurs then the next step is to contact your carrier. There might be some network activity in your area that is preventing text messages from being sent. There might also be an issue with the text messaging subscription of your account so you should also have this checked.
Listed below are the other troubleshooting steps that you can perform if the above steps fails to fix the problem.
- Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S6 Videos Sent via Text Arrive As Pictures
Problem: For some time now, I have been receiving videos through text as a series of pictures that is often quite lengthy, with little to no change in each image. I haven’t hit my data limit and I don’t recall changing any settings, so I don’t know where to start trying to fix it.
Solution: What you will want to do first is to check if the problem is on the sending or receiving end. Send yourself a video file through text. Your phone should automatically compress this video so that is can fit the maximum size set by your carrier. If you receive the video file as a video and not as pictures then the problem might not be caused by your phone but by the phone of the sender. If however the same issue occurs then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below. After performing each step check if the issue still occurs and if it does you should proceed to the next step.
- Clear the cache and data of your text messaging app.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. Does the problem occur in this mode? If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app that you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S6 Receiving Long Messages Are Split
Problem: I have a Galaxy 6. When I send a long text to friends, they receive it as a single text box. When they send long texts to me, I receive them in multiple chunks. Is there a setting so that a long text looks like a single text box? Thank you!
Solution: What you need to do in this case is to check if the auto combine feature of text messages is activated. You should go to go to Settings – Applications – Messages – More settings – Text messages. From here make sure that the auto combination is enabled. If it is already enable and the issue persists then try clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app. You also need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
S6 Not Sending Text Messages After The Nougat Update
Problem: Hello, I updated my S6 to Nougat last night. Immediately after, I was unable to send text messages through my default Samsung Messages app. I was able to receive them but not send. It would spin for a while and ultimately fail. I tried it on wifi, off wifi with data only, and with wifi calling settings on preferred and not preferred. No luck! Any explanations? I’m currently using Google Messages now which works fine. Thanks a bunch.
Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to make sure that your phone is using the correct message center number. You can access this setting by doing the following
- Tap Messages.
- Tap MORE.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap More settings.
- Tap Text messages.
- Tap Message centre.
If the message center number is correct but you are still unable to send a text message using the stock messages app then perform the following steps listed below.
- Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager. Check if the issue still occurs.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Check if the issue still occurs.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
