Google Maps keeps crashing on Galaxy S10 Plus

You need to be thorough in troubleshooting your phone that’s having some issues with pre-installed apps because unlike third-party apps, you cannot uninstall it from your phone. But don’t worry, you can definitely fix it if you’re only willing to do some basic troubleshooting procedures. That said, here are the things you need to do:

First solution: Force restart your phone

The very first thing you have to do when you get the Google Maps has stopped error is to force restart your phone. It will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services. It is a simulated battery removal and pretty effective in fixing minor firmware issues or glitches. Here’s how it’s done on your phone…

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows.

Once the phone has successfully rebooted, open Google Maps or any other navigation apps that use it. If Google Maps keeps crashing after this procedure, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear Google Maps cache

There are times when an app’s cache gets corrupted or become obsolete and when it happens, the app may crash. This procedure will delete the cache and actually replace it with a new one. It’s one of the most effective solution to app issues and here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to and tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Google Maps.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.
  7. Go back to the Home screen and open Google Maps.

After this, try to test if Google Maps keeps crashing continuously and if it still does, then you should reset the app.

Third solution: Clear Google Maps data

After deleting the cache and the problem continues, the next thing you have to do is reset the app itself. It means you have to delete the data files which will bring the phone back to its default settings. If the problem is with the app only, then this will be enough to fix it. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to and tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Google Maps.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear data.
  7. Confirm by tapping OK.
  8. Go back to the Home screen and open Google Maps.

After this, open the app to see if Google Maps keeps crashing even after the reset. If it still does, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen, release all keys.
  4. Your phone will continue the boot process until it reaches the recovery mode.

  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

When the phone has successfully rebooted, try to see if Google Maps keeps crashing still. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Fifth solution: Backup files and reset your phone

After the first four solutions and the app still keeps crashing, then it’s time to bring the phone back to its default or factory settings. This will surely fix app-related issues including the Google Maps keeps crashing issue. While we know that it’s very effective, we don’t suggest it immediately without exhausting all possible solutions. But at this point, you don’t have much of a choice so make sure to create copies of your important files and data and then remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device. After that, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen, release all keys.
  4. Your phone will continue the boot process until it reaches the recovery mode.
