Samsung Galaxy A20 WiFi connection keeps dropping. Here’s the fix.
When a WiFi connection keeps dropping on your Samsung Galaxy A20, the problem could be a sign or a minor firmware issue, a problem with your network device or there’s a serious issue with your phone’s hardware. What you can do is rule out all possibilities until everything will become clearer as to what causes the issue to occur. In other words, you need to troubleshoot your phone, at least, before you bring it back to the store or local shop.
In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Galaxy A20 that keeps on dropping its WiFi connection. We will try to consider every possibility and rule them out one by one until we can determine what the problem really is and hopefully be able to fix it. Troubleshooting Galaxy A20 with WiFi connection that keeps dropping
Network issues with smartphones are often not that serious and as an owner, you should be able to fix them on your own without having to take a trip to the shop. The procedures in this post have already been proven to fix problems like this. So, try to see which one works for you…
First solution: Force restart your phone
If this is the first time that you encountered having the WiFi connection to drop, then it could be a pretty minor firmware issue. The first thing that you have to do is the Forced Restart. It is a simulated battery removal that will refresh your phone’s memory and reload its apps and services. Most of the time, if the problem is not serious, this is all you need to do to make your phone work normally again. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.
Once your phone has rebooted successfully, try to see if the WiFi connection still drops. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Power-cycle your router or modem
It is possible that the problem is caused by your failing network device. Therefore, the next thing you have to do if the first procedure failed to fix the issue is to restart your network device. May it be a modem or router.
- Unplug your modem or router from the wall outlet or simply disconnect the power cord from the main unit.
- Leave it without power for a minute or two.
- After that, plug it back into the wall outlet or reconnect the cord.
- Wait for the device to become online and then let your phone reconnect to it.
After doing this, try to see if the WiFi connection on your phone still drops and if it’s the same with other devices because if it is, the problem could be with your network device. However, if only your Galaxy A20 has this problem, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Reset network settings
The previous procedure will refresh the connection from your network device while this one will refresh the connection by replacing the old one with a new one. Resetting the network settings will also reset the network services in your phone. So if this problem is because of some inconsistencies in the services, then this procedure should be able to fix it. Here’s how it’s done:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and tap General management.
- Touch Reset.
- Tap Reset network settings.
- Tap Reset settings.
- If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
- Finally, tap Reset.
After doing this, enable WiFi and let your phone reconnect to the same network. If the WiFi connection still drops, then move on to the next solution.
Fifth solution: Delete the old system cache
We need to be thorough in troubleshooting a smartphone with WiFi connection that keeps dropping. I personally experienced this problem in the past and one of the things I did was delete the system cache and it fixed the issue. What you need to do is restart your phone in recovery mode and then wipe the cache partition from there. It does not only delete the cache but replace it with a new one. Here’s the step-by-step guide on how to do it:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
- Press Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
After wiping the cache partition, try to see if your Galaxy A20 still drops the WiFi connection, and then move on to the next solution if it does.

Sixth solution: Master reset your phone
If this is just a firmware problem, then a reset will be able to fix it. But before you actually reset your device, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will all be deleted. After the backup, make sure to remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. When ready, follow these steps to reset your device:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
After the reset and your phone still drops its WiFi connection every now and then, then it’s time you brought the device to the shop so that a technician can check it up for you.
