How To Fix The Rocket League Packet Loss Issue on PC (Steam)
Packet loss in games often results in lags and freezes. In most cases, it’s just due to minor network-related problems, but there are also times that you really have to troubleshoot the game itself.
But most of the time, this kind of problem is fixable. In fact, you may only need to do a couple of procedures to be able to fix it. So if you’re one of the gamers with this kind of problem, here’s what you should do:
Fix #1: Check your Internet connection
The first thing you have to do is to make sure that your Internet connection is stable and fast because if it’s a connection problem, you may be able to fix it without even touching your computer or the game itself.
- So log on to SpeedTest.net.
- Once the page loads, click Go to begin the test.
- When the result shows, compare it with your plan.
If you’re getting a very slow connection, then try rebooting your router. It’s the most effective solution when it comes to connection issues. You may also call your Internet service provider and have the problem fixed on their end.
Fix #2: Force stop the game and restart your PC
After making sure your connection is fast and stable but the problem continues, what you need to do next is to stop the game from running. Just pull the Task Manager up, look for Rocket League and then click End Task.
After that, restart your computer to release the RAM and CPU that the apps are using. It will refresh everything in it including the connection and its memory. Once the reboot is finished, launch the game again and try joining a match and see if it still lags or skips randomly.
Fix #3: Make sure it’s not a server issue
There are instances wherein a problem like this is caused by a server problem. As we all know, server maintenance is conducted every now and then. This is to prevent serious problems and it’s very important.
So it’s possible that the packet loss you’re experiencing is due to a server problem. The best way to know if that’s the case is to check the status of the server to know if other gamers also have the same problem as you.
- To do so, log on to DownDetector.com.
- Search for Rocket League and then try to see if the problems other users are experiencing are the same as what you’re currently having.
Server issues get fixed by themselves, so if that’s the case, then all you need to do is wait until the problem is fixed.
Fix #4: Verify integrity of game files
Game issues can sometimes be attributed to corrupted game files. That’s why the next thing you need to do is to let Steam verify the integrity of the game files. If the problem is because of it, the Steam client will fix it. Here’s how it’s done:
- Launch the Steam client.
- Navigate to the Library tab, right-click on Rocket League and click Properties.
- Navigate to Local Files and then click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait until the verification is finished.
Once the process is done, open the game again and see if the problem is fixed.
Fix #5: Uninstall Rocket League and reinstall it
After doing the previous solutions and the packet loss issue continues to bug you, then your last resort will be to remove the game from your computer, and then reinstall a fresh copy. This will fix any game-related problem. Here’s how you do it:
- Launch the Steam client.
- Navigate to the Library tab and right-click on Rocket League.
- Hover over Manage, and click Uninstall.
- Click Uninstall one more time to remove the game from your computer.
- Once the game is successfully uninstalled, restart your PC and then reinstall it. That should take care of the FPS drops and lags.
