OnePlus 8 Pro Will Support 30W Fast Wireless Charging
- The upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro flagship will support 30W fast wireless charging thanks to OnePlus’ new wireless charger known as Warp Charge 30 Wireless.
- This will offer the same charging speeds as the wired 30W Warp Charger, thus bridging the gap between wired and wireless charging for OnePlus 8 Pro customers.
- Manufacturers like Samsung only have 15W fast charging tech with the recent Galaxy S20 flagship.
- OnePlus will unveil two new flagships at an online-event on April 14.
It’s no secret at this point that OnePlus is preparing for the launch of the OnePlus 8 Pro and the standard OnePlus 8. The former is expected to be the high-end version and is said to include a few new features. One among them is wireless charging. OnePlus has now teased this feature officially, mentioning that the company’s new wireless charger will offer 30W fast charging support. Known as the Warp Charge 30 Wireless, this wireless charger will offer the same power as OnePlus’ existing wired fast charger, including the one offered with the OnePlus 7 lineup last year.
While the company is expected to retain the 30W wired Warp Charger for the new flagship, the revelation of this wireless charger does get us excited. OnePlus has been notably absent from the wireless charging arena even though companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung have offered it for a couple of years now.
But it seems like OnePlus was simply waiting for the technology to offer rapid wireless charging, as the company has previously mentioned that the pace of wireless charging remains a concern. Things have clearly changed with 30W fast charging now expected to be available soon. Customers should find no disparity in charging speeds between their wired charger and this new wireless charger.
Speaking to The Verge, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said that the charger will keep the heat down thanks to a built-in fan. Moreover, customers will reportedly be able to turn on Night Mode on the charger which will decrease power usage, and also shut off the fan if the noise gets too much.
This technology comes from OnePlus’ parent firm Oppo, although the company mentions that it has made some tweaks of its own. Despite being a proprietary technology, OnePlus has mentioned that it is willing to license the feature to other manufacturers. This could be a game-changer in the market as OnePlus’ industry rivals like Samsung only offer 15W wireless chargers.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are expected to be revealed on the 14th of April, so there’s not too long to wait. Leaks from the past few weeks have given us an excellent idea of what to expect from the new flagship.
