Troubleshooting LG V50 ThinQ that won’t connect to WiFi network

When troubleshooting a smartphone that won’t connect to WiFi, you need to be thorough enough to determine the cause and fix the issue. In this guide, I will guide you every step of the way until you can use your LG V50 ThinQ normally again. With that being said, here’s what you should do about this problem:

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart 

It is always possible that the problem is with the firmware and most of the time, it’s just a pretty minor issue that can be fixed by this procedure. A forced restart is a simulated battery removal that will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services including the ones that your phone uses for its wireless connections. Here’s how it’s done: 

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 12 seconds or until the LG logo shows on the screen.
4. Your phone will continue to boot until it reaches the lock screen.

Once your phone has finished the reboot, try to see it it still won’t connect to WiFi network because if that’s the case, then move on to the next solution. 

Second solution: Power-cycle network devices

There are times when network devices, such as routers and modems, have to be refreshed as well. In fact, most network-related issues are due to minor issues with your router or modem. So, at this point, it’s best to simply power-cycle or reboot your modem and/or router. Here’s how…

1. Unplug your modem or router from the wall outlet or simply disconnect the power cord from the main unit. 
2. Leave it without power for a minute or two. 
3. After that, plug it back into the wall outlet or reconnect the cord.
4. Wait for the device to become online and then let your phone reconnect to it. 

If your LG V50 ThinQ still won’t connect to the network after this, then troubleshoot your phone further. 

Third solution: Reset Network Settings to fix phone that won’t connect

After refreshing the network connection by rebooting your router or modem, it’s time to make sure the connection in your phone is not corrupt. Forgetting the connection might work but it’s best to simply reset all network settings in your phone to make sure all things are running the way they should and here’s how you do that: 

1. From the Home screen, Settings.
2. Tap the ‘General’ tab.
3. Tap Restart & reset > Network settings reset > RESET SETTINGS > Reset Settings.
4. A ‘Network settings have been reset’ message briefly flashes to indicate the reset is complete.

After this, try to see if your phone still won’t connect to the WiFi network because if so, then try the next procedure. 

Fourth solution: Wipe the cache partition

When the system cache gets corrupted, performance issues may occur including all sorts of errors and problems. This can just one of those cases so at this point, it’s best to rule this possibility out by doing the following: 

1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
2. Tap the ‘General’ tab.
3. Tap Storage > Internal storage.
4. Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
5. Tap Free up space.
6. Tap Temporary files & raw files.
7. Select the following options:
   • Cached data
   • Clip tray temporary files
   • Raw files from camera
8. Tap Delete > DELETE.

When you’re done with this, try to see if your phone still won’t connect to the network and then move to the next solution to fix this problem.

Fifth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

A master reset will now be necessary. If this is just a problem with the firmware, then a reset will take care of it. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data first since they will be deleted during the process. After which, remove your Google account so that you won’t be locked out of your device. 

Here’s how to do the master reset on your LG V50 ThinQ: 

1. Back up all data on the internal memory before performing a master reset.
2. Turn off the device.
3. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
4. When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
5. When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
6. Press the Power button to reset the device.
