Instagram keeps crashing on Galaxy S10 Plus

In troubleshooting your phone that has app issues, you have to be thorough as you may be able to fix it using basic procedures. First, you have to find out if it’s just an issue with the app and then you progress into troubleshooting the firmware if the problem continues. With that being said, here are the things you need to do:

First solution: Clear background apps and force restart your phone

The first thing you must do is close all applications that are left running in the background to clear the memory. Instagram, being a social app, is associated with many applications that could have contributed to the development of this problem. So, we just have to make sure it’s not because of other apps that you’re having this problem. To close all apps in the background, go back to the home and then tap the Recent key. It’s usually on the left side of the Home key. After that, tap Close all.

After closing all applications that run in the background, it’s time to force restart your phone to refresh it’s memory and reload all its applications and services. Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows.

After doing these things, open the app to know if Instagram keeps crashing still even after the forced restart. If it does, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Delete the cache of Instagram app

One of the common causes of an app crash is the corrupt or obsolete cache. It’s a temporary files created by the system to make the app run smoothly after the first use. You can delete this file and it will be replaced with a new one and here’s how you do it:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Touch the Settings icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Once Settings is opened, scroll down to find Apps and then tap on it.
  4. Find and tap Instagram.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Now, tap Clear cache.

After this, go back to the home screen and pull the app drawer up and then open Instagram. If it still crashes, then it’s time to reset it.

Third solution: Clear Instagram data files to reset it

If it’s just an issue with the app, then this procedure will definitely fix it. You just have to delete its data files to reset it. Doing so will bring the app back to its default settings. You will be logged out of your account but don’t worry, you can log back in when the problem is fixed. Also, don’t worry as none of your Instagram posts will be deleted. Here’s how it’s done on your Galaxy S10 Plus…

  6. Now, tap Clear data.
  7. Confirm the reset by tapping OK.

If Instagram keeps crashing even after doing this procedure, then maybe some of its installation files have already been corrupted. Move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Uninstall Instagram and reinstall it

Uninstalling the app will remove all its files and associations with other apps as well as with the firmware. No trace of the app can be found in your phone after this. So, if the problem is caused by some corrupt installation files, this will remove those files and when you reinstall the app, you can rest assured that you’re using the most recent version. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up to open the app drawer.
  2. Find Instagram and then tap on hold on it.
  3. When the options show, tap Uninstall.
  4. Reboot your phone.
  5. Once the phone becomes active after the restart, open Play Store.
  6. Search for ‘instagram’ and then tap Instagram.
  7. Touch Install to start the download and installation process.

Most of the time, when it comes to app crashes, this procedure is enough to fix them. However, if Instagram keeps crashing after doing all this, then the crashes may have been caused by a firmware issue. For that, you need to reset your phone.

Fifth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

A reset is the ultimate solution to any software-related problems including app crashes. However, we are often hesitant in suggesting this procedure without first exhausting all possible solutions as you may end up losing some important files and data. But since you have no other choice now, it’s time to reset your phone. Before the reset, make sure to backup your important files and then remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after doing it.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen, release all keys.
  4. Your phone will continue the boot process until it reaches the recovery mode.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
