The course of our troubleshooting will be to find out if this problem is caused by an app and once we can rule that possibility out, we will move on to the next procedures that can potentially fix this issue. That said, here’s what I suggest you do about it…

First solution: Run your phone in Safe mode

This will temporarily disable all third-party applications. It is important that you do this know if one or some of the apps you installed is causing the problem. If that’s the case, then you need to find out which app causes the issue and uninstall it.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

And this is how you uninstall applications from your device:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list.
  4. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

It is important that you continue using your phone for an hour or two in safe mode to be sure if the freezes and reboots still occur. If they still do, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Delete system cache as they may be corrupt

Freezes and reboots are obviously firmware-related issues so if they still occur even in safe mode, then there could be a problem with the system. The best thing you can do at this point is wipe the cache partition so that all system caches will be deleted and replaced. Don’t worry, none of your files and data will be deleted if you did this:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  4. An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After doing this procedure, continue using your phone like you normally do but be very observant to know if it still reboots or freezes. If the problem remained, then move on to the next procedure.

Third solution: Backup important files and reset your phone

A reset will be able to fix freezes and random reboots issues provided your phone doesn’t have any signs of physical or liquid damage and that the firmware hasn’t been modified in any way. If there’s a sign of either physical or liquid damage, you don’t need to troubleshoot it by yourself. Instead, you need to bring it to the store or a local shop so he can fix the problem. If you tried to root and/or install custom ROM on it, then just reflash the stock firmware to fix this issue. But assuming these factors aren’t present, backup your important files and follow the steps below to reset your phone:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
