How to fix Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus that reboots when taking a picture (easy steps)

How to troubleshoot Galaxy S9 Plus that reboots when taking pictures

Apparently, this problem has something to do with the camera so our troubleshooting will immediately focus on that. The following procedures are the most effective solutions we’ve been using to fix issues like this. Try to see what works for you…

First solution: Clear cache and data of Camera

The fact that the phone only reboots when you’re taking picture could mean the problem is only with the camera. The best thing for you to do is reset it to bring it back to its default settings and configuration.

Clearing cache or data from an app can fix some software problems. If you clear data, any data stored in that app is lost, such as settings, login information, and saved games. If you don’t want to clear the data, try just clearing cache first. If you still experience problems, then clear data too.

From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
Tap Settings > Apps.
Find and tap Camera.
To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
Tap Storage > CLEAR CACHE > CLEAR DATA > DELETE.

After doing this, try taking pictures to know if the phone would still reboot and if it still does, then try the next procedure.

Second solution: Take pictures while phone is in safe mode

It is very important to know if the problem still happens in safe mode or not because it will give you a clue that will lead to the resolution of this problem. When in this mode, all third-party applications are temporarily disabled. So, if the issue is fixed, it means there’s an app that causes it. The next thing you should do is find that app and uninstall it and here’s how you do those things:

Turn the device off.
Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

And this is how you uninstall applications from your phone:

From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
Tap Settings > Apps.
Tap the desired application in the default list.
To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

However, if the phone still reboots even in safe mode while taking pictures, then you should try the next procedure.

Third solution: Delete system cache

It is important to delete the system cache first because there’s a possibility that the reason why the phone reboots while taking pictures is due to some corrupt caches that are used by the system. You’re actually not just deleting these caches but replacing them with new ones and everything is done automatically. Follow these steps to wipe the cache partition:

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
Press Power key to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.

After wiping off contents of the cache partition and the problem remains, then you have to do the next procedure.

Fourth solution: Backup files and reset phone

It’s possible that this problem is due to a hardware issue and so you need to do this last solution. If it works, then the problem could have only been with the firmware or at least, software-related but if not, then you need to bring the device to the shop and you won’t have to worry about your privacy as all your personal information and files will be deleted. Just don’t forget to backup your files before the reset as they will be deleted.

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
Press Power button to select.
Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
