Problem #1: How to fix Galaxy S9 Contacts has stopped error
I have had the Galaxy S9 for approximately 5 weeks. 3 days ago I started to get an error message “Contacts stopped working.” I have tried everything listed including a factory reset. I uninstalled a lot of Apps. Did the safe mode. Cleared Caches. I’m still getting that error. I’m off to AT&T today.
I went yesterday and the tech said I may have to do the factory reset so that’s why I did. It didn’t solve anything. I cannot look at contact details and when making or receiving calls it will freeze on hang up for 4-5 seconds. I then again get the error msg contacts stopped working.
Solution: App-specific errors like Contacts stopped working are usually indicators of an app bug. In many cases, clearing the cache and data of the app in question fixes the problem. If the issue persists even after a factory reset, that can mean any of the following:
- there’s a configuration issue with the app
- there’s an operating system bug that won’t go away
- a third party app that’s added after a reset prevents Contacts app from working properly.
Factory reset is often effective in fixing software bugs but if you encounter the same problem that’s most likely due to software or app issue, that can mean factory reset did not address the root cause at all. In your case, this can mean that there’s data associated with your Contacts app that you keep adding. This can mean an information like contact or number that has a bug in it. This can occur if you simply reloaded an old backup that contains a bug. To check if that’s the case, you can do another round of factory reset. Afterward doing a factory reset, try to add some contacts manually and see what happens if you use the contacts app. DO NOT use your backup in this period. Also, make sure not to install any app at this time. If Contacts app works properly, then you know the cause is either due to your old backup or one of the apps.
If the problem returns after reloading your backup afterwards, we suggest that you clear the data of your Contacts app then add the contacts manually.
For reference, these are the steps on how to clear an app data:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
- Select Show system apps.
- Find and tap your app.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear Data button.
- Restart your S9 and check for the problem.
Problem #2: Galaxy S9 becomes unstable and keeps freezing after an update
After security update Aug 1 2018, my device became unstable freezes and restarts got stuck in boot loop. Had repaired at Sprint walk in tech support. They did factory reset. After this my device USB port doesn’t recognize OTG adapter and moisture is detected when attaching MHL SlimPort. ERRONEOUS I am elec. tech have C+ certification, have done 2 more factory resets, phone is in excellent condition never submerged, can trick phone into recognizing HDMI and cast for hours, but after restart problems persist. Have spoke to Spint tech. 15 times and Samsung tech. 3x all agreed software conflict. But want me to pay for their mistake and send in for repair. Phone is 2 months out of warranty. Still have 3 more months on lease. Help me please Sincerely.
Solution: If the issue started after installing an update and you are not willing pay for carrier repair or replacement, you can try to downgrade your device’s OS version. This is not an official solution and can potentially put your device at further risk. To downgrade your OS version, you have to do what’s called flashing. Basically, what you want to do is to bring the firmware version of the device to the previous stable version of Android. The exact version depends on your phone model so you have to do research in this area. You also have to find a good flashing guide for your device. Keep in mind that flashing can potentially brick the device for good so you want to do it at your own risk.
We suggest that you visit XDA Developers forum and ask for a good flashing guide from the community. There are thousands of firmware versions for the S9 around the world so be sure to use the correct one for your phone.
Problem #3: Galaxy S9 Plus moisture detected error, won’t turn on
My S8 Plus had moisture alert for like a month, i cleaned it several times still that message didn’t vanish. so i used wireless charger for charging the S8 Plus. Last night when i was playing a game my S9 PLus switched off because charge ran out. I charged my S9 PLus to 2% and turned it on, after that i couldn’t charge my S9 PLus, it ran out of charge and switch off. after that i couldn’t charge or switch on the device.
Solution: One of the common reasons for an issue like yours is a bad charging cable or adapter. Try using another known working charging accessories to see if that’s the reason.
If your S9 Plus won’t charge by cable or when using a wireless charger, then the issue is most likely a bad motherboard. In this case, you want to contact Samsung so they can repair or replace the phone.
Problem #4: How to fix your Galaxy S9 Plus that is not receiving Facebook notifications
Hi there, please help. I have the S9 Plus and I’m not receiving Facebook notifications unless I go onto the Facebook app. I’m not receiving any notifications if I’ve been tagged in something or mentioned in anything. I have tried everything there is and still no luck. Contacted Samsung with no such luck do you have any more tips? Thank you Kind regards.
Solution: There are a number of factors that can prevent Facebook notifications from working. Let’s discuss each of them and how to fix the issue.
Check Facebook account notification settings
Facebook notifications work at two levels — account level and app level (device). Make sure that you allow your Facebook account itself to give you notifications. You can do that by going into your account. Here’s how:
- Open Facebook app.
- Tap More settings (three-line icon at the upper right).
- Scroll down to Settings & Privacy.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll down to Notifications.
- Tap Notification settings.
- Tap an item you want to get notifications from and configure it. For instance, if you want to get notifications from Updates from Friends, you can tap it and enable the option you like.
Enable Facebook app notifications
Once you’ve already configured your Facebook account, you then want to make sure that you allow your S9 to notify you. To do that, follow these steps:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Find Facebook app and tap it.
- Tap Notifications.
- Enable Notifications (the first slider).
- If you want to receive all kinds of Facebook notifications, enable all items. Otherwise, disable things you don’t want.
Third party apps
If Facebook notifications still won’t work after doing the first two options above, the next good thing to do is to check for the possibility that a third party app may be to blame. Some apps, especially personalization apps, may interfere with Android or other apps. If your Facebook app came with the operating system (pre-installed), booting the device to safe mode may help.
Safe mode is another software environment that blocks third party apps from running. If you added Facebook app after unboxing the phone, just skip this step. However, if it’s a pre-installed one, try to run your S9 to safe mode and see if there’s third party app interference.
To boot to safe mode:
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
- When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume Down key when you see Safe Mode.
- Let the phone run for as long as possible to see if there’s a difference. If Facebook notifications work on safe mode but not in normal mode, you have a third party app problem.
To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:
- Boot to safe mode.
- Check for the problem.
- Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
- After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
- If your S9 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.
