How To Fix Valorant Black Screen On Startup

One of the factors that can contribute to the Valorant black screen on startup issues is corrupted or outdated data. To fix this, you need to make sure that the game is updated and that the graphics card driver your computer is using is the latest version.

Valorant is a 5v5 free to play first person shooter game released by Riot Games last June 2020. It is set in the near future where players control agents with the aim of attacking or defending the opposing team. Its gameplay is similar to that of CS:GO and Overwatch where the attacking teams goal is to plant the bomb while the defending team aims to diffuse it.

One common problem that you might encounter while playing this game is the black screen issue. This usually occurs when you start the game and can often be a frustrating experience. Here’s what you need to do to fix this.


  • Restart the computer.
  • Make sure the game is updated. This is done automatically when you start the game.
  • Make sure that your computer meets the necessary hardware requirements to play the game.

Minimum (30 FPS)

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
  • GPU: Intel HD 4000
  • RAM: 4GB

Recommended (60 FPS)

  • CPU: Intel i3-4150
  • GPU: GeForce GT730
  • RAM: 4GB

High End (144+ FPS)

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz
  • GPU: GTX 1050 Ti
  • RAM: 4GB

Method 1: Update your graphics card driver

This issue usually occurs if you have an outdated graphics driver which is why you will need to make sure that you have the latest driver installed. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card then here’s what you need to do.

Time needed: 10 minutes.

Update NVIDIA GPU driver

  1. Right click on the NVIDIA settings icon.

  2. Click on NVIDIA GeForce Experience.

    This will open the GeForce Experience geforce experience

  3. Click the Drivers tab.

    This is the second tab on top of the drivers tab

  4. Click Check for updates.

    This will check if any new driver is available. If any is found then download and install it.check for updates

If you don’t see the GeForce Experience then you should download it first from here

Alternatively, you can also update your graphics card driver from the device manager.

  • Right click the Start button.
  • Click Device Manager.
  • Click the forward arrow before Display Adapters.
  • Right click the display adapter then click Update driver.
  • Click search automatically for drivers.

Method 2: Reinstall the game to fix Valorant black screen

There’s a possibility that the problem is caused by a corrupted game file. If this is the case then you will need to reinstall the game.

  • Click the Start button.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Apps.
  • Find Valorant then click it.
  • Click on Uninstall.
  • Click Uninstall again on the pop-up menu that appears.
  • Find Riot Vanguard then click it.
  • Click on Uninstall.
  • Click Uninstall again on the pop-up menu that appears.

Restart the computer once the uninstallation has completed then download and install the game again.
