Fixing Galaxy A20 that won’t turn on

Here’s the fact, most of the time, this problem is just due to a minor firmware issue or crash. It may seem like a serious hardware problem as it leaves the phone unresponsive but you can actually fix it on your own without having to go to the shop and let the tech check the phone for you. You can fix this problem provided that your phone doesn’t have physical or liquid damage. With that said, here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Force Restart your Galaxy A20

That’s right! A forced restart will make your phone respond again. In fact, it can be the only thing you need to do to get the device going. It’s a simulated battery removal that refreshes your phone’s memory and reloads its apps and services. Here’s how it’s done on your Galaxy A20:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or more.

If the logo shows on the screen, then it’s a sign that the phone has responded to this method and it means that the problem is fixed. However, if it still won’t turn on after the first try, then repeat the process a few more times. After that and your phone is still not responding, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Charge phone and do the forced restart

After doing the forced restart a few times and your phone still won’t turn on, then it’s possible that it’s just because the battery got drained. If you’ve tried connecting the phone to the charger and it’s not responding or charging, then the simple battery drain may have caused the system to crash. Yes, I encountered this problem a few times and it could happen to you. If you notice, when a phone reaches a certain level, the brightness may become dimmer and other services may be turned off. When you let the phone run out of battery like when you forgot to charge it before you went to bed, there’s always a possibility that the system would crash just before the battery runs out. As a result, you’d be dealing with a couple of minor issues that both result to an unresponsive device. But don’t worry, you can always fix this kind of problem and here’s what you need to do:

  1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
  2. Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
  4. After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  5. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  6. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

If you were able to make your phone respond again by doing any of the steps above but the problem occurs from time to time, then you have to backup your files and reset your phone. Here’s an effective way to reset your device:

  1. Remove your Google and Samsung accounts so you won’t be locked out.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
  5. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  6. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  7. Press Power button to select.
  8. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  9. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  10. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  11. Press the Power key to restart the device.

On the other hand, if your phone continues to be unresponsive and still won’t turn on after doing the procedures, then it’s time to bring it to the shop or back to the store so that a technician can check it up for you.
