Problem #1: How to fix Galaxy Note9 app issue: apps keep crashing

Note 9, old contacts, I can send text. Any new messages, text will crash, Messages has stopped. Open app again. Send Feedback.” is  what I receive. When I tried to open an email, crashed…got message as: “Gmail has stopped. Open app again. Send feedback.” Have called AT&T support 2x, did lots of changes..No help. Finally, got it replaced. But it is still doing the same problems. Think its not the phone but the operating system. or some app.. NEW Samsung Note 9.

Solution: This type of issue is usually due to a software or app glitch. Follow our suggestions below to troubleshoot it.

Clear cache partition

A corrupted system cache can sometimes lead to app crashes or general slow performance issues. To ensure that your Note9 uses a good system cache, make sure to clear its cache partition. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  4. An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Install updates

Not all apps can work properly with newer phone models. Some may affect other apps while most may only cause issues within themselves. To minimize the chance of bugs coming from incompatible apps, make sure that all apps in your device are up-to-date. You can do that by allowing Google Play Store app to automatically download updates. If you changed this default setting before, be sure to manually check for app updates.

Also, make sure to check if there’s any available system updates. You can do that by going under Settings > Software update.

Reset app preferences

Another good way to solve this problem is by making sure that you set all apps back to their known working state. This is done by resetting all apps back to their original configuration. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap More settings (three-dot) icon at the upper right.
  4. Tap Reset app preferences.

Safe Mode

To check if a third party app is to blame, you can run your Note9 to safe mode. In this mode, all third party apps will be blocked, allowing only preinstalled apps to run. If you haven’t tried this troubleshooting before, we suggest that you do. These are the steps to restart the phone to safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

Once your phone successfully runs in this mode, observe it closely and compare its performance when it’s running in normal mode. Usually, if the problem is due to third parties, your phone will run faster and smoother in this mode. To identify which of your apps is causing the trouble, you should boot the phone back to safe mode and follow these steps:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S9 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Problem #2: Galaxy Note9 Pokemon Go app won’t work

I purchased new Samsung note 9 today. I have tried everything and cannot get pokemon go to work. I can pull it up but all I get is my avatar in the middle of the screen with no map. Do I have to wait for Niantic to update the app?

Solution: Pokemon Go requires a stable internet connection in order to work properly. Are you getting good internet speed on your phone? If your mobile data connection is erratic and does not give stable connection, this may be the reason why the app is not working as expected.

If the problem persists even when you’re using a strong wifi connection though, or if your mobile data speed is not a problem, then it must only be an app issue. We suggest that you report the bug to its developer for support.

Problem #3: How to fix Galaxy Note9 notification issue: can’t use personal or custom sound notifications

I had an Note 8 and just upgraded to the Note 9 and I am wondering where is the personal notifications sounds? I can not assign any personal notifications. This is for text messages. Is there another app I can use? Or does this new high tech phone have a way? Thank you in advance.

Solution: Custom notifications for the latest Samsung Messages app has been removed. You can no longer use sound notifications other than the defaults for this app. If you want to continue using custom sound notifications for your text messages, we suggest that you use another one like Google’s Android Messages or similar apps.

Problem #4: How to fix Galaxy Note9 texting issue: sending duplicate copies of same text message

I have a Note9, and ever since the software update, my phone will send duplicate and sometimes triplicate messages, but only when travelling out of the country. It works just fine when I’m in the USA. I’ve tried switching apps, clearing caches, and wiping the cache partition. Nothing seems to work, and it’s driving me nuts. Please help!

Solution: If the problem only occurs when you’re outside your home network, then it’s not a device problem at all. It may be caused by a bug when your phone switches to a different network, probably  in its network settings. Try to clear the device’s network settings to see if it helps. Here’s how:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap General Management > Reset settings.
  3. Tap Reset network settings.
  4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  5. Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

If clearing of network settings won’t help, try to get help from the network operator to see if there’s anything that they can do about it.
