How to fix Galaxy Note10+ calls not working | can’t make or receive voice calls

If calls are not working on Galaxy Note10+, follow the suggestions below.

Galaxy Note10+ calls not working fix #1: Check if signal is good

If voice calls are not working properly in your Galaxy Note10+, it’s probably due to poor signal. Be sure to check how many signal bars are showing on the device. If the signal is weak, which means that there are only less than 3 bars, calling and texting may not work normally. Try to relocate in an open area to improve the signal before checking if voice calling improves.

Galaxy Note10+ calls not working fix #2: Restart device

Forcing your Galaxy Note+ to reboot is another way to sometimes fix this type of problem. This can work if the cause of the problem is a temporary bug that causes the system to freeze or become unresponsive. If you haven’t tried this yet, be sure that you do it this time. Try restarting it normally first by pressing the Power button to access the boot menu. Then, select Restart option and see if that works.

Another way to restart the device is by pressing and holding the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on. This simulates the effect of having disconnected the battery from the device. If this works, this may unlock the device.

If doing the regular restart won’t help, then try this:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t release it.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

The second restart procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. On older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way in fixing unresponsive devices. If nothing changed though, proceed to the next suggestions.

Rebooting your device regularly at least once every week can be beneficial. If you tend to forget things, we suggest that you configure your phone to reboot on its own. You can schedule it to do this task by doing these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Device Care.
  3. Tap the 3-dot at the top.
  4. Select Auto restart.

Galaxy Note10+ calls not working fix #3: Force quit Phone app

Sometimes, calling issues are due to a bug in the Phone app. Try to force quit the app you’re using to make or receive calls and see what happens. This can sometimes fix issues due to minor or temporary bugs that may have developed. This is how it’s done:

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the Settings app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Another way to force close an app is this:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap Settings app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.

  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).

  8. Restart the phone and check for the problem.

Galaxy Note10+ calls not working fix #5: Wipe cache partition

If voice calls are not working on your Galaxy Note10+ and it begins after installing system update, there may be an issue with the system cache. In order to load apps quickly, Android stores frequently used items like website links, images, videos, ads, among others in a part in internal storage called cache partition. Sometimes, these items collectively called system cache may get outdated or corrupted causing performance problems or bugs. To ensure that you phone runs efficiently and the cache in top shape, you want to regularly clear the cache partition (about once every few months). When dealing with any app issue, this can also be one of the troubleshooting steps. Here’s how to do it

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby / Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release both keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  5. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  7. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  8. Press the Power button to confirm the action to clear the cache.
  9. Wait for a second as the system wipes the cache.
  10. Press the Power button again to reboot the device. This will return the device to the normal interface.
  11. That’s it!

Galaxy Note10+ calls not working fix #6: Install updates

Some Android problems are due to poor coding. Although we don’t hear any flickering screen problem due to firmware glitch, it’s not a bad idea to keep Android and apps up-to-date. If you’re lucky and your unique case is due to an unknown software or app glitch, installing updates may help.

Galaxy Note10+ calls not working fix #7: Check for bad apps

Another possible reason for this problem is bad apps. If the issue started after installing an app, try to delete the said app and see if it fixes the problem. If you can’t recall the app you recently installed, don’t worry. You can restart your phone to safe mode to see if one of your apps is to blame. In this mode, all third party apps will be suspended.

To run your device to safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the Power off window appears then release.
  2. Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
  3. To confirm, tap Safe mode.
  4. The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete.
  5. Upon reboot, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the home screen.

Remember that third-party applications are disabled in this mode so what you can use are pre-installed apps. If voice calls work normally on safe mode, that means that the problem is due to a bad app. Uninstall the app you recently installed and see if that will fix it. If the problem remains, use the process of elimination to identify the rogue app. Here’s how:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Note10+ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Galaxy Note10+ calls not working fix #8: Reset network settings

Another effective way to deal with all kinds of networking problems like the one we’re trying to fix is clearing network settings. This troubleshooting step will clear Bluetooth, mobile data, wifi, and VPN settings. Put simply, this will return the network configuration of your device to its defaults so you will need to reconfigure it afterwards. For example, you will have to manually connect to wifi networks again after doing this troubleshooting step. For cellular settings, all you need to do is to continue using the device normally.

If you are using a VPN service, you’ll have to add the values again in order to allow your device to use the service. When you reset the network settings on your Note10+, these are the things that happens:

  • Allows background data sync.
  • Clears mobile data limits.
  • Deletes all Wi-Fi SSIDs or wifi names.
  • Disconnects all tethered interfaces.
  • Forgets paired devices.
  • Removes all app data restrictions.
  • Sets network selection mode to automatic.
  • Sets preferred mobile network type to the best available.
  • Turns off Airplane mode.
  • Turns off Bluetooth.
  • Turns off data roaming.
  • Turns off mobile hotspot.
  • Turns off VPN.
  • Turns on mobile data.

Below are the easy steps to clear the current network setup of your device.
