Solution 1: RUN Discord app as Administrator

If the error has been fixed, you can choose to always run Discord as an Administrator:

To do this:

1. Right click on Discord shortcut. It is usually located on your Desktop.
2. Click Properties from the drop down menu.
3. At Properties window, click Compatibility tab.
4. Under Settings section, click the option Run this Program as Administrator.
5. Click Apply to apply changes made.
6. Click OK to exit Properties.

Solution 2: Rename Discord Update file

5. At RUN dialog box, type the following “%LocalAppData%\Discord” and press Enter or click OK to navigate to Discord folder
6. Inside Discord folder, right click on Update.exe file and click Rename from the drop down menu.
7. Rename the file to “UpdateBackup.exe” and press Enter.

Relaunch Discord application then check if Discord Update Failed Loop Error On Windows 10 still occurs.

Solution 3: Temporarily Disable Antivirus software

Antivirus or third party antivirus programs can sometimes cause conflict with Discord update process. To know if this is the culprit for problem, try to disable antivirus software temporarily and then check if the error has been resolved. Temporarily since disabling antivirus makes your computer vulnerable to threats and viruses, therefore make sure to Enable it back ON to protect your computer.

For Windows Defender

• Click on the Start menu  – Settings > Update & Security – Windows Security – Virus & threat protection > Manage settings
• Switch Real-time protection to OFF.  

If you are using Avast

• Search for the Avast icon in your computer’s system tray and double click on it.
• Click on Avast shields control.
• Locate the options to disable the program – the options are to disable it for 10 minutes, an hour, until the computer is restarted or permanently (until you yourself turn it back on). Select whatever option suits you best and use it to disable the program.

If you are using AVG

• Search for the AVG icon in your computer’s system tray and double click on it.
• Click on Temporarily disable AVG protection.
• Choose how long you want AVG to be turned off and whether you want AVG to disable its Firewall too.
• Click on OK to disable the antivirus program.

If you are using McAfee

• Search for the McAfee Antivirus icon in your computer’s system tray and right click on it.
• Click on Exit.
• You should see a dialog box warning you that McAfee‘s protection will be turned off. Click on Yes in this dialog box to disable the antivirus program.

Relaunch Discord app then check if Discord Update Loop failed Error On Windows 10 still occurs.

Solution 4: Reinstall Discord app

Reinstalling the application as there are times when the previous Discord app may have been corrupt. Installing the latest version of the application can help fix this issue.

To do this, you need to uninstall Discord first:

1. Press CTRL + Shift + Esc on your keyboard to open Task Manager.
2. At Task Manager, locate Discord then click End task located at the lower right or you can right click on Discord and then click End Task from the drop down menu.
3. Press Windows button or Start located at the lower left.
4. Click Settings, an icon that looks like a gear.
5. At Windows settings, click Apps
6. Scroll down to locate Discord and click on it.
7. Click Uninstall. Follow the onscreen instructions for the uninstall process.

After uninstalling Discord, deleting appdata contents on Discord folder is the next step:

1. Press Windows key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box.
2. At RUN dialog box, type the following “%LocalAppData%” and press Enter or click OK to open Discord appdata folder
3. Right click on Discord folder and then click Delete from the drop down menu.
4. Restart computer.

To reinstall Discord:

1. Go to Discord Website to download the application.
2. Click Download
3. After download is complete, go to install package and Run DiscordSetup.exe and run the program as Administrator. Follow the onscreen installation process to install Discord.

Launch Discord app then check if Discord Update Loop failed Error On Windows 10 still occurs.

Solution 5: Reset Network Configurations

After reinstalling Discord app but still Discord Update failed loop error still occurs, you may need to reset network configurations. It is possible that you are having issues with your internet connection when updating Discord.

To do this:

1. Press Windows key + X on your keyboard.
2. Click Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Windows PowerShell.
3. At Windows PowerShell window, type the following commands and press Enter after each command.
4. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter
5. Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter
6. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter
7. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter
8. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
9. Exit Windows PoweShell window.
10. Restart computer

After computer completely reboots, relaunch Discord app then check if Update Failed Loop Error on Discord still occurs.
