How to Fix Can’t Connect to Netflix Error NW-2-5 in your Galaxy S9 or any Android device

Netflix Error NW-2-5 is a minor connectivity issue when using the Netflix app. It does not necessarily mean that there’s a problem with the app itself. There are other potential reasons for it so be sure to follow our suggestions below to resolve it.

Solution #1 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Refresh the system

Many minor bugs are fixed by simply restarting a system. If you have a phone with a removable battery pack, you can refresh the system by disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds. If you have newer models with non-removable battery, you can force reboot it by doing these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. You can use the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Wait for up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.

Solution #2 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Restart your networking devices

The best thing to do in this case is to ensure that you powercycle your network devices like modem, router, and phone. Sometimes, kinks in the network can cause lag or unknown bugs in the entire system. To check if this is the case, be sure to turn off your home network for a few seconds. If possible, try to unplug them from the power source and let them disconnected for 10 seconds. Be sure to also turn off your Galaxy S9 throughout the process.

Solution #3 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Verify if your network supports streaming

Some networks may not allow streaming. If you are getting Netflix Error NW-2-5 when outside your home wifi or when in another wifi network, this is the possible reason. Although most hotels allow streaming, there’s always a chance that the one you’re in may be restricting Netflix streaming. Try to contact the network administrator to verify.

Solution #4 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Check your internet connection

You can test the internet connection of your phone using a few means. You can see how fast the internet connection speed by using speed testing apps. We suggest though that you use Netflix’s own diagnostics tool within the app itself. Just head over Netflix app Settings menu and under Diagnostics, you can find Check network and Internet Speed Test options. Use any or both of them to determine whether or not you have internet connection problems.

Solution #5 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Check DNS settings

Having incorrect DNS settings can also lead to Netflix Error NW-2-5. By default, your router should have your ISP-provided DNS settings. Your Galaxy S9 should also have the default DNS settings. To check if your phone has incorrect DNS, you can follow the general steps below:

  1. Turn on your Samsung Galaxy S9 and go to the General Settings
  2. Tap on the Wi-Fi menu
  3. Locate the Wi-Fi network that you are using currently
  4. Tap on forget
  5. Once again, select the Wi-Fi network that you just tapped to forget and enter the security details if and when prompted to do so
  6. Scroll through the settings for that network and locate the Advanced Options then tap on it
  7. In the Advanced Options menu, tap on IP settings
  8. Change the status to Static from DHCP
  9. Once you switch from DHCP to Static proceed further below where there are fields labeled as DNS 1 and DNS 2
  10. Enter your preferred DNS address then tap on Join when everything else is set

If you are not sure what DNS your ISP is using, you can use Google’s own: 8.8.8.8 (primary) and 8.8.4.4 (secondary).

Solution #6 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Improve wireless signal

Poor or weak wifi signal can also cause Netflix Error NW-2-5. Make sure your S9 is near or has good wifi signal everytime you stream Netflix. If wifi signal is weak or internet speed is slow, streaming may become intermittent and unstable.

If you are in a poorly covered part of the house, move your router near you, or try moving near it, whichever is doable. Sometimes, router signal may become intermittent due to signal interference. Move wireless devices such as cordless phones or microwave ovens away from your router. Wireless interference from these devices can create issues when you try to connect over Wi-Fi.

Solution #7 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Reset router

This is a bit extreme and can potentially affect other devices that are otherwise not experiencing Netflix Error NW-2-5. However, if you think there’s something wrong with the router, you can try to factory reset it to return it to its software to ISP-state. Refer to the device’s documentation or consult your ISP before doing it.

Solution #8 to fix Netflix Error NW-2-5: Contact ISP

Finally, you want to work with your Internet Service Provider should the Netflix Error NW-2-5 won’t go away after doing all the suggestions above. They should be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and identify the source of the bug.
