Fixing the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 TouchWiz Home Problem

A message came in recently in The Droid Guy Mailbag concerning a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 TouchWiz problem. The email reads, “Last night, my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone updated its software to Android 4.3 JellyBean. While I appreciate the improved graphics rendering, I am dismayed by the following glitch. I now get this error message, ‘Unfortunately, TouchWiz Home has Stopped.’ So, I am unable to reach my launch and widget screens. The apps on the Home screen work, and I can access the Apps window.”

Possible Causes of the Galaxy Note 2 TouchWiz Home Problem and its Solutions

1. Configuration Issue

According to one contributor in the AndroidCentral forum, Samsung advised him that the Galaxy Note 2 TouchWiz Home problem may be caused by an issue in the configuration of the device’s app preferences. The manufacturer of the device suggested this solution:

  • Access Settings
  • Choose Application Manager and select the All tab
  • Tap the Reset App Preferences option
  • If a confirmation message appears, just tap Reset Apps

The contributor noted that it fixed his Galaxy Note 2 TouchWiz Home issue and the process let him keep all his settings.

Another way to solve this is by clearing the data of TouchWiz using the following steps:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Applications
  • Tap the Running or All tab and choose TouchWiz
  • Tap Clear Data

Keep in mind that this will erase the configuration that you have set in TouchWiz but it will likely solve the problem.

2. Other Solutions

If the steps mentioned in the previous item fails to work, try changing the screen mode of the TouchWiz app to Basic or Easy through the Home Screen Mode option found under Settings followed by Device. You can also, change its Window Animation Scale via the Developer Option.

When everything stated here fails to solve the issue, the Galaxy Note 2 TouchWiz Home problem may already be due to corrupted system files. If this is the case, backup all your important files and perform a Factory Reset.
