Things you should check before you troubleshoot

Account status – make sure that your account is in good standing and that all your services are active. If you think you’ve missed paying your previous bills, then you should contact your carrier or Internet service provider to verify that your account and services are active. Carriers usually impose temporary disconnection to accounts with unsettled bills and other issues. When this happens, your account will be tagged under “soft disconnect” status. All your outgoing services are temporarily disabled in this state. As a result, you won’t be able to make outgoing calls, texts, or access the Internet.

Network status – another thing that you need to check beforehand is on outages. Usually Internet service providers will make prior announcements for scheduled outages and system maintenance to let their subscribers be aware of and prepare for the upcoming service interruptions. However, there are just some instances when technical problems suddenly occur on their end, either on the network system or base towers. This is when sudden network services interruptions. Usually you’ll be prompted with a error message saying that the server or network is currently unavailable and that you’ll need to try again later.

Network equipment – the very source of your wireless network at home is your wireless router or modem. It’s responsible for receiving signal from the network tower and then transmit or relay the signal to all devices connected to the network. If Wi-Fi internet is not available or not working on all your devices, then this is most likely what’s happening. Should it be a minor glitch occurring on the router or modem firmware, a reboot or power cycle would be able to fix it. To rule this out from the possible causes, try to these steps:

  • Turn off your modem/wireless router by pressing on the Power button until it powers down.
  • Unplug the A/C adapter from the power source. Leave it unplugged for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • After the elapsed time, plug it back into the power source or wall outlet.
  • Press the Power button to turn it back on.
  • Wait until all the LEDs or light indicators become stable. If you see any red light, it denotes that something is wrong with the router or modem. For example, if the light indicator for signal is red, it means that your router or modem is not getting any signal from the base tower and that’s the main reason why you have no Internet connection. Any problem on the network equipment must be resolved first. Once everything is working properly with your network equipment, you should get Wi-Fi connectivity back up and running smoothly on all your devices again.

If the Wi-Fi problem persists on your Xiaomi Mi 6 but not on your other devices, continue to troubleshoot your phone. Apparently, something on your device is preventing Wi-Fi functions to work as intended and that’s what you should deal next.

Troubleshooting Xiaomi Mi 6 with WiFi problems

The following walkthroughs consist of standard procedures or generic solutions to wireless connectivity problems on Xiaomi Mi 6. Be sure to test your Wi-Fi internet after performing each solution so that you’ll know if the problem is fixed or not. If the first method doesn’t work, then try the next applicable solution.

First solution: Reboot your Xiaomi Mi 6 (soft reset).

A simple reboot on the phone can do a lot of wonders especially when dealing with minor issues and random errors. Sometimes, a single restart may not be enough for the glitch to be rectified so give it up to three times then see if that fixes the problem. Here’s how to reboot or perform a soft reset on your Xiaomi Mi 6:

  1. Press and hold the Power button on the right side of the phone.
  2. Select Power off from the menu options.
  3. Then tap OK.
  4. After about 30 seconds, press and hold down the Power button again until the phone boots up.

A soft reset will not affect any of your phone data so it’s safe.

In the case where your Xiaomi Mi 6 is not responding to touches due to Wi-Fi errors, you can do a forced restart instead. Similar to a soft reset, a hard reset will not affect your data if performed correctly. So here’s how a forced restart is done on your Xiaomi Mi 6:

  • Press and hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time for about 3 to 5 seconds until your phone reboots.

Wait until the phone completely boots up then try to connect to Wi-Fi afterwards.

Second solution: Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on.

If Wi-Fi is still not working on your Xiaomi Mi 6 after a soft reset or forced restart, try to turn Wi-Fi off for a few seconds and then turn back on. Fourth solution: Reset network/APN settings on your Xiaomi Mi 6.

Network problems are that are tough enough to withstand the prior procedures are usually resolved by resetting the network or APN settings on your Xiaomi Mi 6. Fifth solution: Factory reset/master reset.

A factory reset or master reset might be the last option to consider if all else failed to fix the problem and that you still cannot connect to or use Wi-Fi on your Xiaomi Mi 6. All your personal data will be erased in the process as your device resets and restored to factory defaults. That being said, back up your phone beforehand. Once everything is set, follow these steps to proceed with the master reset:

  1. Turn off your phone by pressing the Power button.

The prior methods are generally used to fix Wi-Fi problems that are software-related. If the problem persists after performing these workarounds, then it’s possible that what you’re dealing with is a hardware issue. At this point, you may contact Xiaomi Support or your carrier/Internet service provider and escalate the problem for further assistance.
  • Service/repair. Or you can just take your phone to a service center and have it checked by a technician. This should be done especially if the problem started after your dropped your phone or got it wet.
