How To Fix Common Samsung Galaxy S2 Problems And Errors [Part 6]

The Samsung Galaxy S2 may have been released more than three years ago but a lot of people are still using this model. Proof to this is the numerous emails we are receiving from our readers regarding the issues that they are facing with their S2.

The Galaxy S2 is a solid smartphone that offers a relatively worry-free user experience. Sometimes though, a few issues may occur which is unavoidable. Since the official warranty of this model may have already expired and most service carriers don’t provide technical support for it anymore we here at TDG will do our best to provide solutions to the problem that our readers are facing.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Applications Stopped Working

Problem: I wonder if you can offer me some advice. My (S2) phone has been working fine until this morning when I switched it on as normal and I noted it wasn’t accepting updates on one of my memo pages. I tried a few times to update but nothing. I received a telephone call this morning and thought nothing more was wrong. However since then I have noted that the TWL Launcher along with other applications are flashing up the Sorry Flag stating ‘process.com.sec.android.app twl launcher has stopping working and its going through all the other applications stating the same thing! And each time I press the Force Close it just goes through all the said applications again. It asks to report but Google flags up…is this a problem being caused by Google? I have switched the mobile on and off and removed and re-inserted the battery but nothing. I have tried calling my mobile using my landline but instead of ringing just going straight to voicemail. I’m not near a Mobile Phone shop to get advice. I’ve had this phone for 3 years 2 of which were on contract but on a PAYG for the last year on 3Mobile and have had problems but more to do with connections and not this type of problem I’m experiencing today. Has any other S2 users been experiencing these same problems today? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Solution: Several owners of the S2 have also experienced this issue. Have you tried using the stock launcher that came with the phone? There’s a big possibility that it is the TWL Launcher that’s causing this issue.  Your solution of turning the device off and removing the re-inserting the battery is one of the first things that needs to be done in cases like this. Unfortunately, it seems that it didn’t solve the issue. The next step that needs to be done is to clear the cache from recovery which works most of the time.

The steps provided below wipes the cache partition of your device. No personal data will be deleted.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold both Volume Up and Volume Down keys at the same time.
  • Press the Power key only until the phone vibrates once, then release only the Power key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume up and Volume Down keys until the Android System Recovery screen appears.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Home (GB only) or Power (ICS only) key to select.
  • Make sure Reboot System Now is highlighted and press the Home (or Power key) to reboot.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Charging Problem

Problem: My galaxy s2 will not stay on if it is not on the charger and will turn off randomly when it is on the charger. I have cleared cache and rebooted system not sure what else to do. Last night I set my alarm on it for 4:30 am and when it went off it was actually showing 2:30am but clock on phone said 4:30. When i take off charger it acts like it wants to start up but never goes past the Boost signal then shuts of and keeps doing the same thing until i plug it back up….. Please help

Solution: There are lots of factors to consider for this type of issue. Since you mentioned that you already rebooted the system (factory reset?) and cleared the cache then it’s safe to say that we can eliminate any third party application that may be causing this problem. Have you tried using another battery and check if the problem still occurs? If it still exists then there’s a big possibility that either 1.) A recent Android software update is causing this or 2.) it may already be a hardware issue. In both cases the device really needs to be checked by a technician.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Black Screen Problem

Problem: Hi, I have samsung galaxy s2 ( GT-I9100, UK-tmobile) which is giving me trouble. It has got complete black screen but when i switch on the function keys are lighting up. I am receiving the call as well but with black screen. It is connecting to Kies with out any problem. I tried hard resetting which did not solve my problem. I can’t do any other things (rebooting, factory reset) because of the black screen. I could not find any solution on the internet. Can you help me out. Thank you

Solution: Based on your description of the issue this could already be a hardware issue. Since you mentioned that it can connect to Kies without any problems and the phone functions normally then this could already be an issue with the display. You will need to have this checked by an authorized technician.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Text Message Counter Problem

Problem: I have a Galaxy s2 and the counter for my text messages continues to display the number “1”although their is no new text message. How do I get the text messaging icon to stop displaying the number “1”, when there are no new messages?

Solution: If your S2 is running on Android ICS 4.04 then this is a known issue for this version of the software that occurs not only on the S2 but on other devices as well. One solution that works most of the time is by going to Settings -> Applications – > manage Applications – > All – > BadgeProvider – > Clear data .  After this process you should restart your device. Hope this solution helps.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Becomes Hot

Problem: My Samsung S2 handphone become hot when I on the wifi or 3G to access internet. Without on the wifi or 3G , phone is at normal temperature. Can you guide me how to solve this problem.

Solution: When The Galaxy S2 or any other mobile device becomes hot when connecting to a Wi-Fi or 3G network then this means that an activity is going on which could probably mean that certain apps installed in the device are accessing the Internet. You could start by checking on what apps you have installed. Try to uninstall one app then try to access the Internet and see if the device gets hot. Repeat the process until you reach a point where the device does not get hot. If it still gets hot after you have uninstalled all of your apps then you could perform a factory reset on your device (make sure to backup all data from your phone and microSD first as this procedure will return the device to its initial state).

  • On the main home screen, just select MENU
  • Select SETTINGS, then select PRIVACY
  • Select FACTORY DATA RESET
  • Select RESET PHONE
  • If the password is required, enter it. Then confirm by selecting ERASE EVERYTHING

If it still gets hot then perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn your phone off.
  • With the phone off, press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key. You’ll see the Android recovery screen.
  • Scroll to Wipe Data/Factory Reset using the Volume Up or Down keys. Select with the power key.
  • Scroll down to Yes, Delete User Data and select it.
  • Back on the first screen, scroll down to Wipe Cache Partition and select it.
  • Your factory reset is now complete.
  • Go to Reboot System Now to restart the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Dead Without Warning

Problem: HI, i really need your help. My Galaxy s2 had a low battery and i booted it, it went off and has not come on ever since; no matter the charging. What should i do, all my contacts are in there not backed up!

Solution: In situations like this most of the time the problem is with the battery or the charger itself. Try using a different charger and see if this works. If not then the battery of your S2 may have gone bad already, try replacing it with a new one. I hope this solves the issue and helps you gain access to the contacts stored in your device.

Samsung Galaxy S2  Screen Turns Black

Problem: so today i was playing a game on my galaxy s2 and all of a sudden the screen turned black and i couldnt turn it on anymore. so i charged it up and then the load up screen appeared but it wont boot all the way up and shuts down halfway through boot up. Could it be the battery or the phone its self?

Solution: This could be an issue with the phone itself and not the battery. Just to be on the safe side try connecting your charger to the phone then turn it on. If it still won’t boot up completely then there’s something wrong with the phone. Try and see if you can do a master reset on the device. This will delete all your data stored on the internal storage but will not delete data stored in the SIM card or SD card.

  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight wipe data / factory reset.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight Yes – Delete all user data.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Power key to reboot.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Charging Problem

Problem: Hi, I haven’t had my Samsung for a long time. Probably 3 weeks. My problem is that is won’t charge. I replaced the battery but still, no avail. When I plug my charger in ( ive tried numerous chargers thinking that might be the problem) and I hold it a certain way, it charges but as soon as I let go it stops charging.. what should I do?

Solution: Since you mentioned that you have already tried different chargers (hopefully with different USB cords as well) then the problem may be in the charging port of the device itself. For this type of issue you have to bring the phone to an authorized service center to have it fixed.

Samsung Galax S2 Haptic Feedback Problem

Problem: Hello, I’m having issues with haptic feedback on my Samsung S2. Even if I have it switched on, often it just won’t work. When it vibrates it also makes a funny noise. Any ideas?

Solution: There are several owners of the S2 who are also experiencing this. From what we have gathered this issue is caused by the excessive use of headphones since the vibration device is located near the audio jack. Once the audio jack gets stressed it affects the vibration and haptic feedback feature of the device.

A temporary fix to this problem is listed below

  • Insert a cable into the headphone jack.
  • Lightly press on the jack, in the direction of the front-facing camera (left, if looking at the phone from the front)
  • Whilst lightly pressing in this direction, remove the jack.
  • Vibration should be restored

A permanent fix is to bring the device to an authorized service center and have the vibration motor fixed.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: Hi there,I’m using the Galaxy s2 i1900 the international version. The problem is that the battery drains prettyvfast, like I fully charged the phone and I listened the music with a headphone, only about 20 mins later, the battery droped down to 93%. When I surf the web with the 3G connectiin, it will always take a lot of my battery life, like 10-15% with one hoir of surfing the web. It can never last a full day. I had to charge it like twice per day, in oder to last for a day. I would really appreciate, if you could somehow find the solution for this annoying problem.

Solution: When the battery of a device drains fast it could mean that the battery is faulty or there are apps running in the background that are using up your charge.

First let’s discuss some battery saving tips that you can do first to see if it solves the issue

  • Reduce display brightness
  • Remove unused widget
  • Always make sure that your phone has a good signal reception
  • Try to use Wi-Fi instead of 3G as it uses less power
  • Disable or reduce background scheduled auto-sync applications
  • Turn off Bluetooth, GPS If you don’t use them
  • Turn off new Samsung Apps notification if you don’t use them

If the issue still occurs try uninstalling apps that you have installed. These apps may be running in the background even if you have closed them which may cause the battery drain issue.

As a last resort you could also try replacing your battery with a new one.
