Fixing a Galaxy A70 with screen flickering issue

The thing is if this is a hardware issue, then you probably need a technician to get the problem sorted out. But if this is just an issue with the firmware, then the problem will probably be fixed after troubleshooting it. With that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this problem…

First solution: Force restart your phone

There are times when a problem like this is caused by some glitches in the system. Glitches occur every now and then and while they’re pretty minor in nature, they can actually make you think that there’s some serious problem with your phone. If the screen flickering is due to this issue, then at least you can fix it by simply doing the forced restart. It is a simulated battery removal that will refresh your phone’s memory and reload all its apps and services. This is how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A70 logo shows on the screen.

When your  phone has finished rebooting, try to see if the screen flickering issue still occurs. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Run your phone in safe mode

It is possible that this problem has been caused by some third-party apps, especially heavy game applications. Thus, the next thing that you have to do is restart your phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party applications and services. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Once your phone is already in safe mode, try to see if the screen flickering continues because if the problem is fixed, then it means that there are really apps that cause this issue. This is what you need to do next:

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to reboot by itself.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

However, if the problem continues even in safe mode, then it’s time that you troubleshoot the firmware.

Third solution: Reset all the settings to fix screen flickering

There are settings that may have adverse impact on your phone’s performance, especially the settings under the Developer Options. While we really don’t know if that’s the case here but it’s better to rule it out by resetting all the settings of your device. After all, doing so will only bring good things than bad. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

After this and your phone still has the screen flickering issue, continue with the next solution.

Fourth solution: Delete the old system cache

Another possibility that we have to look into is a chance that this problem resulted from some corrupt system cache files. These are small files used by the firmware to make your phone run smoothly. However, there are times when these files get corrupted and when it happens, performance issues may occur. This could be the case here so follow these steps to delete the old system cache and have it replaced with a new one:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A70 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A70 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once your phone has successfully rebooted and it still has the screen flickering issue, then move on to the next solution.

Fifth solution: Master reset your Galaxy A70

At this point, a master reset will be necessary. As long as this problem isn’t due to a hardware issue, a reset will be able to fix it. However, before that, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will all be deleted. After the backup, remove your Google account so that you won’t be locked out of your device. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, set up your phone as a new device and see if the screen flickering is gone. If for some reason, the flickering continues, then it’s time to bring it to the tech because it could be a hardware issue.
