The Vampire Survivors lagging issue on your PC can be caused by different factors. It could be due to a corrupted game file, outdated drivers, or even a hardware issue. You will need to perform a series of troubleshooting steps to fix this problem.

Vampire Survivors is a gothic horror casual game that has rogue lite elements. This time survival game allows you to control a character whose weapon attacks automatically. Your aim is to defeat the constant waves of night creatures and monsters and hold on as long as possible. As the game progresses you can collect gold which will later on be used to buy new characters or upgrade your weapons and items.

One of the issues you might experience when playing Vampire Survivors is when the game keeps lagging. You will notice that it will freeze or slow down during gameplay. This can be a frustrating experience especially if there are already a lot of enemies on screen.

Here’s what you need to do to fix lag on the Steam version of Vampire Survivors.

Solution 1: Make sure your computer can play Vampire survivors

The good thing about Vampire Survivors is that it does not need a powerful computer to run. You can even play the game using the integrated graphics card of your processor which is great if you don’t have an expensive dedicated graphics card. You should however check if your computer meets the minimum requirements to play the game.

Minimum system requirements:

OS: Windows 7

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 processor or later that’s SSE2 capable

Memory: 1 GB RAM

Storage: 250 MB available space.

Solution 2: Update your graphics card driver

If your PC has outdated graphics card drivers then there’s a possibility that this is what’s causing the Vampire Survivors lagging issue. You need to make sure that the latest drivers are installed as this will have several important performance updates as well as bug fixes that could prevent game lags.

  1. Right click on the Start button.

    This can be found on the lower left side of your screen.Right click on the Start button

  2. Click on Device Manager.

    This will open the device manager window.Click on Device Manager

  3. Click the arrow before Display adapters.

  4. Right click on the selected graphics card then choose Update driver.

  5. Select Search automatically for drivers.

You can also update the graphics driver using the Nvidia GeForce Experience app if you have an Nvidia card or the Radeon Software if you are using a Radeon card.

Once the latest drivers have been installed you should restart your computer then check if the Vampire Survivors lag problem still occurs.

Solution 3: Update your Windows operating system

One of the reason Vampire Survivors is laggy is due to the pending Windows updates that you haven not downloaded yet. These updates will usually have several improvements and bug fixes that can make your gameplay experience better.

Manually download Windows updates

Right click the Start button.

Click Settings.

Click Windows Update section found on the bottom left side of the new window that appears.

Click Check for updates.

If new updates are found then click on the Install now button.

After the new updates have been installed you will have to restart your computer then check if the Vampire Survivors lagging or freezing issue still occurs.

Solution 4: Close background application running when playing Vampire Survivors

You will experience lagging or freezing issues if there are too many programs running in the background while you are playing the game. Make sure that no other applications are running such as your Chrome browser, Office apps, or Discord as these applications will use your computer system resources leaving a less amount of CPU, GPU, and RAM available for the game.

Open task manager window by right clicking the Start button then select Task Manager.

Make sure to click on More details.

Click on the Processes tab.

Right click on the apps running and select End task.

Try checking if this will fix lag on the game.

Solution 5: Install the latest game updates

Since this is an early access game the developers are constantly releasing updates that addressed several player concerns. You might be using an older version of the game that is not optimized well thus causing it to lag. Make sure that you have the latest version of the game installed as this might just fix the problem.

Getting the latest Vampire Survivors game patch

Launch Steam and sign in with your account details.

Click on game Library option and right-click on Vampire Survivors from the left tab.

Select Properties from the list and then click on the Updates tab.

Make sure that the Always Keep this game up to date Option is selected under the Auto Updates option.

Solution 6: Check if your antivirus is causing the game to lag

If your antivirus software is constantly checking the gam files then there’s a possibility that the lag problem will occur. You can check if this is the culprit by disabling the antivirus software then check if the game lags. If it doesn’t then you will need to add the game to its exception list.

Disable the Windows antivirus software

Click the Start button.

Click on Settings.

Click on Update & Security.

Click on Windows Security.

Click on Virus & threat protection.

Click on Manage settings.

Turn off the Real time protection switch.

Click on Settings.

Click on Update & Security.

Click on Windows Security.

Click on Virus & threat protection.

Click on Manage settings.

Click Add or remove exclusions.

Click Add an exclusion.

Click Folder.

Find the folder location of Vampire Survivors and select it.

Solution 7: Repair the game

When your game keeps on freezing it’s very likely that the problem is caused by corrupted or missing game files. You need to make sure that all of the files required by the game are present by verifying its integrity using the Steam client.

Verify integrity of the game files

Open the Steam client.

Click on Library.

Find Vampire Survivors then right click it then click on Properties.

On the new window that appears click on Local Files.

Click Verify integrity of game files…

If any game files are missing or corrupted they will be replaced with new ones from the server.

Solution 8: Reinstall the game

In case the issue still persists at this point then it’s time to uninstall the game and install a fresh version.

Uninstall Vampire Survivors

Open the Steam Client.

Go to the Library tab.

Right click on Vampire Survivors then click on Manage then uninstall.

Click on Uninstall again to uninstall the game.

Install Vampire Survivors

Open the Steam Client.

Go to the Library tab.

Right click on Vampire Survivors then click on install.

Click next to proceed with the installation.
